This paper examines how The Picture Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde marks a critical turn in which he critiques late-Victorian upper-class privilege and moral immunity. While previous scholarship has predominantly analyzed the novel as a moral allegory or aesthetic treatise, this study employs cultural materialism as a theoretical framework to demonstrate how Wilde uses Dorian’s isolation of his portrait and subsequent hedonistic experimentation as symbolic representations of the aristocracy’s ability to shield him from moral and social consequences. Wilde’s text reveals how the English aristocracy could embody ideals of beauty and reap princely treatment while committing debauchery without reproach. Through Culler’s close reading method toward this novel, especially chapters eight and nine, this analysis reveals how Dorian’s act of hiding the portrait symbolizes social denial, while his obsessive aesthetic consumption reflects the practices of the leisure class. This shows that Wilde hints Dorian’s social circle accepts his sensual life simply because his appearance remains unmarred–a commentary on class privilege. By examining the specific textual elements and historical context of—especially—chapters eight and nine of this novel, this study contributes to the understanding of how Wilde’s novel serves as both a product of and commentary on the class structures and moral hypocrisy of late-Victorian England.

Cinnamon bark (Cinnamomum burmannii) is known to contain antibacterial active compounds such as cinnamaldehyde and eugenol. However, as a natural material collected from open environments, it can become a habitat for various microorganisms, including bacteria. This study aimed to isolate and observe bacterial growth found on cinnamon bark originating from Kerinci. Samples were collected from a local market and processed using serial dilution, then cultured on Nutrient Agar (NA) and incubated for 24–48 hours at room temperature. The results revealed the growth of bacterial colonies with diverse morphological characteristics, such as round shape, smooth edges, and cream to cloudy white colors. Gram staining indicated the presence of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Preliminary biochemical tests showed both catalase-positive and catalase-negative isolates. These findings suggest that despite the antibacterial properties of cinnamon bark, certain microorganisms are capable of surviving. The detected bacteria are likely to be either endophytic or environmental contaminants that have adapted. These results provide an initial insight into the local microbial diversity and open opportunities for further exploration of bacteria with biotechnological potential, while also supporting post-harvest quality control of spice products.

Contemporary church organizations in Indonesia face a phenomenon of volatility characterized by fluctuations in congregation membership, persistent internal conflicts, external pressures from changing times, and a crisis of trust in its leaders. There is a significant gap between the theological idealism of servant leadership as taught in Mark 10:42-45 and the reality of leadership practices in the field, which often tend to be authoritarian, conflict-driven, and underserved. This study aims to analyze the application of the principle of servant leadership based on Mark 10:42-45 as a solution to face the challenge of the volatility of contemporary church organizations in Indonesia. The goal is to identify volatility challenges, analyze leadership practice gaps, and formulate effective servant leadership implementation models to restore trust and achieve sustainable congregation growth. This study uses a qualitative research method with a library research approach. Data from various literature sources were analyzed in depth to synthesize the theological concept of servant leadership with organizational management theory and the practical context of the church in Indonesia. The results of the study show that servant leadership is an effective solution to the volatility of the church. It was found that the main challenges in its implementation were hierarchical organizational culture and resistance to change. As a solution, this study formulates a model of servant leadership integration built on four pillars: strong spiritual foundations, adaptive leadership, collaborative governance, and continuous learning. The implementation of this model is through practical strategies such as transparency, empowerment of the congregation.

This study explores the philosophical and theological implications of John Dewey's pedagogical thought, particularly his emphasis on reflective practice and experiential learning, within the context of Contemporary Christian Religious Education (PAK). Despite its potential to foster active, student-centered learning, a significant gap exists in deeply examining how Dewey's principles align with or challenge PAK's theological aim of faith formation. This qualitative library research, employing Miles and Huberman's data analysis model, addresses this gap by synthesizing Dewey's pedagogical concepts with the Christian theology of spiritual growth, particularly informed by 1 Corinthians 3:6, which posits that God gives the increase. The findings reveal that Dewey's experiential learning framework can profoundly enrich PAK by shifting the teacher's role from a primary knowledge dispenser to a facilitator who guides students in applying biblical truths to real-life experiences. This approach encourages holistic development encompassing cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. However, the implementation necessitates a robust theological filter, maintaining that biblical truth is final and acknowledging God's sovereignty in true spiritual growth. The study concludes that while Dewey's pedagogy provides practical strategies for student engagement and character development, its successful integration into PAK hinges on a clear understanding of its theological boundaries, ensuring that pedagogical flexibility is balanced with doctrinal integrity. This research offers a theoretical foundation for transformative PAK practices, aiming to cultivate knowledgeable Christian students with deep and active faith.

Educational supervision serves as a key instrument in improving educational quality; however, its implementation in elementary schools often faces systemic challenges that affect teacher performance and learning quality. This study aims to analyze the implementation of educational supervision by school principals to improve the performance of Catholic Religious Education (CRE) teachers in enhancing educational quality at Inpres Natarita Elementary School. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with the school principal and CRE teacher as research subjects. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. Data analysis used the interactive model of Miles and Huberman with stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal significant disparities between the implementation of administrative supervision and academic supervision. Administrative supervision is consistently implemented but remains procedural-mechanistic in nature, while academic supervision experiences systematic deficits with minimal frequency (once per semester). This condition impacts the competence-performance gap phenomenon in CRE teacher performance, characterized by the dominance of lecture methods, limited learning innovation, and minimal professional initiative. Educational quality shows acceptable achievement in graduation rates but has not been optimal in potential realization and educational value-added.Educational supervision at SDI Natarita has not achieved optimal effectiveness due to a paradigm that remains compliance-oriented rather than development-oriented. A fundamental reorientation toward holistic and transformative supervision is needed to optimize teacher performance and educational quality.

This study aims to analyze the implementation of audio-visual media in Catholic Religious Education learning to enhance learning motivation among third-grade students at Inpres Jongwolor Elementary School. The research employed a qualitative approach with descriptive design. Research subjects consisted of one Catholic Religious Education teacher and five third-grade students selected purposively. Data were collected through unstructured interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results indicate that audio-visual media usage in Catholic Religious Education learning remains suboptimal due to limited internet access, high data costs, and insufficient teacher technology competence. However, when implemented, audio-visual media significantly increases learning motivation, reflected in enhanced enthusiasm, interest, attention, and active student participation during learning activities. Audio-visual media proved effective in visualizing abstract concepts of spiritual and moral values, making them more concrete and comprehensible. This research provides empirical evidence that optimizing audio-visual media usage can serve as an effective strategy to improve Catholic Religious Education learning quality at the elementary school level.

The rapid development of information technology has an impact on the development of financial services with the presence of Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Lending Financial Technology. The presence of P2P Lending has created its own legal complexities in relation to the legal relationship between lender and borrower and risk mitigation efforts, especially the risk of default without specific collateral. This research aims to analysis the legal relationship between Lender and Borrower and the legal protection for Lender in the event of default risks in the implementation of P2P Lending in Indonesia using a normative legal approach. The results of the research indicate that the legal relationship between lender and borrower is a general loan agreement involving a P2P lending platform as an intermediary between lender and borrower. POJK No. 10/POJK.05/2022 plays an important role as a regulation that ensures risk mitigation in the implementation of P2P lending, including the obligation of operators to transfer funding risks to third parties, which has been implemented by PT Amartha Mikro Fintek in collaboration with PT Jaminan Kredit Indonesia (Persero) to provide guarantee facilities for P2P Lending services to ensure legal protection for Lenders.

The rapid growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Tabanan Regency has been driven by economic development, digitalization, and changes in consumer behavior following the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the continuous increase in the number of MSMEs each year, business owners face significant challenges, such as limited adoption of digital technologies, increasing market competition, and restricted access to working capital. This study aims to analyze the effect of QRIS usage, e-commerce, and capital on MSME income both simultaneously and partially in Tabanan Regency. A quantitative method was employed using multiple linear regression analysis. The sample was determined using a non-probability sampling method with an accidental sampling approach. The results show that QRIS, e-commerce, and capital simultaneously have a significant effect on MSME income in Tabanan Regency. Partially, QRIS usage and capital have a positive and significant effect on income, while e-commerce does not have a significant partial effect. This indicates that although e-commerce can expand market reach, intense competition and limited technological literacy among the local population hinder its impact on MSME income in the region.

The profitability of Village Credit Institutions (LPDs) is influenced by their ability to collect and manage Third-Party Funds (TPF) optimally. However, economic dynamics such as market risk and inflation may weaken the effect of TPF on profitability. This study aims to examine the effect of Third-Party Funds on profitability with market risk and inflation as moderating variables. The research was conducted on LPDs operating in Denpasar City during the 2021–2023 period using 92 financial report observations obtained through purposive sampling. Profitability is measured using Return on Assets (ROA), market risk is proxied by the Net Interest Margin (NIM), and inflation is proxied by the Consumer Price Index (CPI). This study employs a quantitative approach using the Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) technique. The results show that Third-Party Funds have a positive and significant effect on profitability. Market risk significantly weakens the relationship between Third-Party Funds and profitability, while inflation is not proven to be a moderating variable in this relationship.

Firm value is a crucial indicator that provides information to investors for making investment decisions. Today, investors also consider a company’s commitment to environmental issues, especially in the energy sector, which significantly contributes to carbon emissions. This study aims to empirically examine the effect of carbon emission disclosure and green investment on firm value. The theoretical framework employed includes signaling theory and legitimacy theory. Firm value is measured using the Tobin’s Q ratio. Carbon emission disclosure is measured through content analysis based on the GRI 305 standards, while green investment is measured using the PROPER rating issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. This study also includes three control variables: firm size, leverage, and profitability. The analytical method used is multiple linear regression, with secondary quantitative data collected from companies’ annual reports and sustainability reports. The sample consists of 69 companies with a total of 271 observations. The findings reveal that carbon emission disclosure has a positive effect on firm value, while green investment does not have a significant effect on firm value. This research is expected to contribute to the development of signaling and legitimacy theories and serve as a practical reference for investors in considering environmental aspects when making investment decisions.

This study aims to analyze the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, on the Indonesian capital market, particularly on the stocks listed in the LQ45 index, as well as on exchange rates and cryptocurrency trading volumes. The research employs a quantitative approach using an event study method, focusing on a 15-day observation window—comprising 7 days before, the day of, and 7 days after the invasion event. The variables analyzed include abnormal return (AR), trading volume activity (TVA), exchange rates, and cryptocurrency transaction volume. The research sample consists of issuers listed in the LQ45 index and the three largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalization—Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether (USDT)—selected through purposive sampling. The findings indicate that the Russian invasion of Ukraine had a significant impact on abnormal returns and trading volume activity of LQ45 stocks, as well as on exchange rates and cryptocurrency trading volumes. This geopolitical event emerged as an external factor contributing to market uncertainty, prompting investors to adjust their investment strategies in both stock markets and digital assets. These findings confirm that global conflicts are closely linked to the dynamics of domestic financial markets.
