Reading plays an important role in building a literate generation that is able to improve academic skills, broaden horizons and maintain local cultural identity. However, the low interest in reading in Indonesia, especially among students, is a big challenge. Internal factors, such as student motivation, and external factors, such as family and school support, are highly influential. Strategies such as reading for pleasure, edutainment and the School Literacy Movement are effective in fostering a reading culture as well as shaping students' characters, such as honesty, empathy and critical thinking. Challenges in implementation include limited reading materials, teacher training, technology support and collaboration with the community. Strategic steps, such as enrichment of reading materials, intensive teacher training and community involvement, are needed to overcome them. With good literacy, students can think critically, have character and contribute positively. This research uses a qualitative approach through a literature study to examine the importance of literacy culture.

The skill of reading is referred to as mahārah qirā’ah in Arabic, which is the third skill after mahārah istima’ and mahārah kalām. In the Arabic Language Education program, some students come from non-boarding school backgrounds and may not have studied Arabic extensively before. This condition can present several challenges, especially in reading Arabic texts. The aim of this study is to analyze the factors that contribute to the difficulty in reading Arabic texts among students from non-boarding school backgrounds in the Arabic Language Education program at UINSU, batch 2021. The method used in this study is qualitative research, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews/questionnaires with five students, and a literature review of previous research. The results of this study show that factors affecting the difficulty in reading Arabic texts among non-boarding school students include their educational background, a lack of understanding of nahwu (syntax) and sharf (morphology), insufficient vocabulary mastery, and a lack of interest in learning Arabic. This study reveals these factors in order to raise awareness among educators about the issue and encourage students to improve their skills in learning Arabic.

The learning outcomes of Indonesian in understanding reading texts at the elementary school (SD) level are still low. This study aims to explore the challenges of reading comprehension skills in elementary school students, where many students are able to read technically but have difficulty understanding the reading content. This study examines the phenomenon of the gap between technical reading ability and reading content comprehension in elementary school students in Indonesia. Although students are able to read texts fluently, they often have difficulty understanding the meaning and context of more complex readings. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data was collected through observation, in-depth interviews, reading and text comprehension tests, and documentation at SD Negeri Bunter II, Cimanggung District, Sumedang Regency. The results show that this problem is caused by several factors, such as teaching methods that are less interactive and focus on reading techniques without providing comprehension strategies, lack of use of technology in learning, and low motivation of students to read more complex texts. The text comprehension test showed that only 35% of students were able to understand the content of the reading well. These findings emphasize the need to use more varied, creative, and technology-based learning methods to improve students' reading comprehension. This study provides important recommendations for teachers and schools in implementing a more effective approach to improve students' literacy skills

Children's interest in reading in Indonesia is still a big challenge, although there are many efforts to improve it. Many factors influence, such as lack of access to interesting books, more dominant gadget play habits, and also an environment that is less supportive of reading habits. However, children's interest in reading in Indonesia can grow if they are introduced to relevant and interesting books, and encouraged to read from an early age. To foster an interest in reading, children need to be given the opportunity to find the type of reading that suits their interests and age. Books that are exciting and easy to understand can be a bridge so that they are more interested in reading. In addition, a supportive school and family environment, such as providing special time to read and discuss books, also plays a very important role in fostering positive reading habits. This study aims to deeply analyze the role of religious literacy in improving maharah qira'ah (reading ability) at SMP Pahlawan Nasional Kota Medan. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach, this study explores data thoroughly regarding students' ability to read the Qur'an and its relationship to the religious literacy program implemented at the school. Data collection methods include memorization and Qur'an reading tests, observation of reading abilities, and surveys to explore students' perceptions of the importance of religious literacy. The results show that the majority of students still require intensive guidance in reading the Qur'an. In each class, only a few students are able to read the Qur'an and pronounce Arabic correctly, although their fluency is still lacking. Most students are not able to read the Qur'an fluently, and some still struggle to distinguish hijaiyah letters. These findings indicate the need for a systematic and intensive religious literacy program to help students improve their maharah qira'ah skills. Additionally, a more personalized teaching approach is necessary to address the specific challenges students face in reading the Qur'an.

Students are required to memorize tashrif in the Shorof course, because tashrif is the main basis in understanding the structure of the Arabic language, especially in word formation and change. Mastery of tashrif helps students recognize the patterns of word changes from roots to derivatives, which is very important for understanding religious texts such as the Qur'an, Hadith, and classical books. In addition, this ability improves reading, writing and speaking skills in Arabic. By memorizing tashrif, students are also more confident in using Arabic actively, both in academic and practical contexts. Therefore, tashrif is an important part of Arabic language learning that not only facilitates text comprehension, but also builds language skills. This study aims to analyze the effect of the singing method on the ability to memorize tashrif in the Shorof course of class 5B students of class 2022. using quantitative approach research with data collection through questionnaires filled out by 28 students.
