The learning environment plays a strategic role in determining the quality of the teaching and learning process, particularly for fifth-grade elementary school students who are at a crucial stage of cognitive and social development. This study aims to analyze the influence of the learning environment on the effectiveness of learning in Grade V of elementary school using a descriptive qualitative approach through literature review. The learning environment examined includes physical aspects (such as facilities, classroom layout, and lighting) as well as non-physical aspects (such as social interaction, emotional atmosphere, and teacher support). The findings reveal that a conducive learning environment significantly enhances students’ motivation, engagement, and academic achievement. These results are supported by Piaget’s and Vygotsky’s constructivist theories, as well as Bandura’s social learning theory, which emphasize the importance of interaction between learners and their environment in constructing knowledge and skills. The study recommends strong collaboration among schools, teachers, and education stakeholders to create a holistic, safe, and supportive learning environment that fosters students’ academic and personal development.

Students' understanding of the concept of nets and surface area of spatial shapes is still relatively low due to the abstract nature of the material and the lack of connection with real life. This study aims to determine the effect of contextual learning models based on North Sumatra local wisdom on improving elementary school students' concept understanding. The method used is Systematic Literature Review (SLR) by analyzing various relevant sources from 2019 to 2024. The results showed that the integration of local cultural elements, such as Batak traditional houses (Rumah Bolon), gorga carvings, and traditional crafts, can help students understand mathematical concepts more concretely. This approach encourages better spatial visualization and calculation skills, and increases students' motivation and active participation. Learning becomes more meaningful as students can relate the material to their cultural environment. However, challenges such as limited learning resources and teacher readiness are still barriers to implementation. Therefore, training for teachers and development of local culture-based teaching materials are needed. This research contributes to the development of contextual learning strategies that are more relevant to students' cultural background, especially in mathematics education at the primary school level.

This research aims to improve the learning outcomes of fifth grade elementary school students in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subjects through the application of the Role Playing method.  The Role Playing method was chosen because it is considered effective in improving students' conceptual understanding and critical thinking skills, as well as motivating students to actively participate in the learning process. This research uses an experimental method with a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample consisted of two fifth classes in an elementary school, namely an experimental class taught using the Role Playing method and a control class taught using conventional methods. Data was collected through student learning outcomes tests before and after treatment. Data were analyzed using the t-test to compare the differences in average learning outcomes between the experimental class and the control class. The research results showed that there was a significant difference between the learning outcomes of experimental class and control class students after the Role Playing method was applied.  The average learning outcomes of experimental class students increased significantly compared to the control class.  In conclusion, the Role Playing method is effective in improving the learning outcomes of fifth grade elementary school students in science and science subjects.  This research recommends that teachers can apply the Role Playing method in science learning to increase students' understanding and interest in learning.

This research aims to improve the writing skills of elementary school students through the application of mind mapping techniques. The background of this research is based on the low writing ability of students, especially in developing ideas and composing coherent and coherent paragraphs. This study uses the Classroom Action Research (PTK) method which is carried out in two cycles in grade V of elementary school. Each cycle consists of planning, implementation of actions, observation, and reflection. Data collection techniques are carried out through essay writing tests, observation of student activities, and documentation of student work. The results of the study show that the mind mapping technique can help students in systematically compiling ideas before writing, making it easier for them to develop their essays. In the first cycle, only 48% of students achieved the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM). After improvements were made in cycle II, completeness increased to 84%. In addition to the increase in writing results, there is also an increase in motivation and active participation of students in the writing learning process. In conclusion, mind mapping techniques have proven to be effective in improving the writing skills of elementary school students. This strategy can be used as an alternative in learning Indonesian to create a more creative, structured, and fun learning atmosphere.

This study examines the role of character-based assessment of independence in improving problem-solving skills in elementary school students. Character-based assessment of independence assesses students' learning process, not just academic results, with a focus on developing values of independence such as responsibility, initiative, and self-management skills. Through this approach, students are trained to face challenges independently, manage time, and find solutions creatively. Literature review shows a positive relationship between the level of student independence and increased problem-solving skills. However, the implementation of this assessment faces challenges such as lack of teacher understanding, time constraints, and system support. Nevertheless, character-based assessment of independence remains relevant and needs to be implemented more widely with training support for teachers, the use of technology in assessment, and synergy between schools, parents, and communities. The results of this study suggest that independence assessment should be an integral part of learning practices to create a generation of independent and solution-oriented learners.
