Reading interest among elementary school children is a fundamental foundation for literacy development and long-term academic success. However, the reading interest of elementary students in Indonesia remains low due to limited engaging reading materials and an unsupportive literacy environment. This study aims to analyze the role of various types of reading materials, such as fairy tales, children’s storybooks, and literate textbooks, in enhancing the reading interest of elementary students. A qualitative descriptive approach was used, collecting data through literature review, observation, and document analysis to depict effective practices in literacy learning. The results show that fairy tales serve as an initial gateway to literacy by building a positive emotional connection to reading, while children’s storybooks strengthen independent reading habits through appealing illustrations and engaging plots. Literate and contextual textbooks broaden literacy scope by integrating everyday experiences. The findings emphasize the importance of selecting reading materials suited to children’s psychological characteristics and the active role of teachers and parents in creating a joyful reading environment. This study provides strategic input for educators and policymakers to improve literacy at the elementary school level.

The purpose of this study is to analyze teachers’ understanding of authentic assessment. The assessment process seeks to evaluate whether educational goals have been met, thus highlighting the important role of evaluation in the education sector. Effective and comprehensive evaluation is conducted on an ongoing basis, providing educators with a comprehensive view of student learning achievement and progress. Each subject emphasizes the importance of ongoing assessment, which is aligned with broader educational goals and outcomes. This article serves as a literature review intended to explore the features of 21st century learning and their implications for assessment, specifically authentic assessment. Given globalization and rapid technological advancements, the educational paradigm has shifted from a teacher-centered approach to a student-centered approach. Learning in the 21st century prioritizes the enhancement of critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills (often referred to as the 4Cs). Therefore, conventional assessment is considered inadequate to measure learning outcomes that are complex and contextual. This study explores various relevant scientific sources to formulate a comprehensive understanding of authentic assessment as an approach that is in line with the characteristics of 21st century learning. Authentic assessment emphasizes real, contextual processes and products, and provides meaningful learning experiences. The findings of this study recommend that teachers need to design assessments that are integrated with the learning process, encourage active student involvement, and assess abilities holistically. This study is expected to be a guide for education professionals in creating assessment methods that are in line with 21st century requirements.

Phonological skills are a crucial foundation in early childhood language and literacy development. This study aims to explore the use of digital educational games as an interactive learning medium to improve young children's phonological abilities. A quasi-experimental method with a one-group pre-test and post-test design was applied. The participants were 4–5-year-old children enrolled in an early childhood education center in City X. Data were collected through observation sheets and phonological tests. The findings revealed a significant improvement in children's phonological skills after engaging with digital educational games regularly over a four-week period. The games were designed to train skills in sound discrimination, rhyme recognition, and syllable identification. These results imply that digital technology can serve as an innovative and effective tool to support phonological learning in an enjoyable manner during early childhood. The findings provide valuable insights for educators and application developers to design learning media appropriate to children's developmental stages.

Teachers are a crucial element that cannot be overlooked in the teaching and learning process, as they can determine the success or failure of that process. Therefore, in the process of education and instruction, it is essential to have qualified teachers. This means that, in addition to mastering the subject matter and teaching methods, teachers must also understand the fundamentals of education. These educational foundations are extremely important for teachers to know in carrying out their noble duties as instructors or educators. They serve as a means to inspire and motivate students in their learning process. Even if a teacher has excellent mastery of the subject matter, without knowledge of didactic factors, it can create obstacles for students in understanding what the teacher is conveying. On the other hand, teaching experience can actually make it easier for teachers to deliver lessons effectively, especially when supported by the use of appropriate and well-applied teaching methods.

Professional appearance is a very crucial aspect for an educator, especially in the context of vocational education such as State Vocational High Schools (SMKN), where educators act as role models for students. One element that can support professional appearance is knowledge in the field of make-up. The use of appropriate make-up not only reflects the level of professionalism, but can also increase self-confidence and reflect a good work ethic. This study aims to analyze the relationship between make-up knowledge and the professional appearance of educators at SMKN Padang City. The research method used is quantitative with a correlational approach. The sample in this study amounted to 53 female teachers from SMKN 06 and SMKN 07 Padang City who were selected using the proportional stratified random sampling technique. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, then analyzed using a correlation test. The results of the study showed that there was a significant correlation between the level of make-up knowledge and the professional appearance of teachers. Educators who have good insight in the field of make-up generally show a more well-groomed appearance, are full of confidence, and reflect professional standards in the educational environment. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that increasing knowledge about make-up makes a positive contribution to the formation of a professional image of teachers in the SMKN environment.

This article examines teacher empowerment and the professionalism of educators in Indonesia during the Reformasi and post-Reform era, with a comprehensive academic review approach. The Reform era marked a significant change in education governance, particularly in terms of decentralization and autonomy that provided greater space for independent and contextual teacher capacity development. This research highlights various policies implemented to improve the quality of educators, such as teacher certification programs, continuous training, and welfare improvement which are the main focus of the government. However, real challenges still arise related to quality disparities between urban and rural areas and educational infrastructure constraints that affect the effectiveness of teacher empowerment. This article also discusses how teachers' professionalism is not only measured from the technical aspects of teaching, but also from the ability to adapt to new curricula and educational technology developments. Thus, teacher empowerment in the Reformasi era and post-Reformasi is an important foundation in efforts to improve the quality of national education in a sustainable manner. These findings are expected to be a reference for policymakers and education practitioners in formulating more effective and inclusive educator development strategies.
