Abstrak:
Indonesia, a leading palm oil producer, generates 1,250 tons of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches (OPEFB) waste daily, typically disposed of through polluting combustion. This study explores repurposing OPEFB as a substrate for erythritol production, a popular sweetener with minimal impact on blood sugar. The research utilized Moniliella pollinis mutant SP5, a yeast capable of producing erythritol from various substrates. The process involved acid hydrolysis of OPEFB followed by fermentation. When fortified with 15% v/v molasses, OPEFB successfully served as an optimal carbon source for erythritol production, achieving a mass yield of 0.2878 g/g. Further improvement came through the use of ethyl methane sulfonate (EMS) mutagenesis, with the best mutant (mutant 7) reaching a yield mass of 0.3298 g/g and volumetric productivity of 0.0534 g/L/h. This research aims to advance Indonesia's self-sufficiency in erythritol production while providing a sustainable solution for OPEFB waste reduction, simultaneously addressing economic and environmental concerns.

This study aims to examine the use of cattle waste as organic fertilizer to minimize agricultural operational costs in Mrawan Village, Tapen District, Bondowoso Regency. Cattle waste, particularly manure, is an abundant local resource that has not been optimally utilized by the local community. The majority of farmers in the village still rely on chemical fertilizers, which are relatively expensive and have a negative impact on long-term soil health. Therefore, this program is designed to provide a sustainable alternative solution through an educational approach and community empowerment. The methods used in this activity include outreach, technical training, and direct assistance in the process of making organic fertilizer from cow manure. Education focuses on simple fermentation techniques, the composition of natural additives, and appropriate fertilizer application methods. Farmers are actively involved in every stage of the activity, so they become not only beneficiaries but also agents of change in environmentally friendly agricultural practices. The results of the activity indicate that the use of organic fertilizer from cattle waste can reduce the cost of purchasing chemical fertilizers by up to 40% in a single planting season. In addition, organic fertilizer has been shown to increase soil fertility, improve soil structure, and support healthier plant growth. Environmental impacts are also reduced, as livestock waste management is more controlled and does not pollute water or air sources. Therefore, utilizing cattle waste as organic fertilizer not only reduces environmental pollution but also provides an economic and ecological solution that benefits local farmers. This program is expected to become a model for empowerment that can be replicated in other areas with similar characteristics.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly altered children's daily routines, particularly increasing screen time, decreasing physical activity, and changing sleep duration, which may impact their physical and mental health. It is important to know how changes in physical activity and screen time can affect children's sleep duration before, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: This study used a quantitative analytical observational cohort study method with 240 child samples aged 6–12 years in Semarang City. The sampling technique used simple random sampling. The research instrument used the SMALLQ® questionnaire. Data analysis techniques used normality tests, Spearman-Rank tests to determine correlations, and Kruskal-Wallis tests to compare data.
Results: The correlation between screen time and sleep duration was not statistically significant (p>0.05), while physical activity showed a significant positive correlation with sleep duration (r = 0.253 on weekdays, r = 0.21 weekly, p<0.05). Significant differences were found in screen time, physical activity, and sleep duration across the three periods (p<0.001), with increased screen time and decreased physical activity and sleep duration persisting post-pandemic.
Conclusions: The pandemic led to lasting increases in screen time and decreases in physical activity and sleep duration among children. Promoting healthier routines is essential to mitigate these impacts in the new normal era.

Abstrak:
Nipah Panjang Village in Kubu Raya Regency, Indonesia, has diverse mangrove forest vegetation. Meanwhile, the mangrove forest in Nipah Panjang Village has the potential threat of deforestation, so it is necessary to develop a management strategy. A mangrove management directive can be compiled with mangrove biophysical data and the social conditions of the surrounding community. Therefore, this study aims to examine the distribution of mangrove forest areas and their utilization by the community in Nipah Panjang Village. The method used in this study was GIS analysis to determine the distribution of mangrove forest areas. In this study, observations and interviews were carried out to determine the use of mangrove forests. The study results show that from 2013 through 2018, there was around 3.12 Ha of deforestation. Deforestation that occurred was much lower than the previous year. It was due to the implementation of a devolution policy that granted village forest permits in Nipah Panjang Village. Currently, the forms of utilization of mangrove forests in Nipah Panjang Village are the farming (apiculture) of kelulut honey, forest honey farming, and crab farming with the concept of silvofishery and the development of ecotourism. This form of utilization needs to be maximized so that the community's welfare increases, ultimately maintaining the mangrove forest.
