This article reviews the history and transformation of madrasah management in Indonesia. Emerging in the early twentieth century, madrasahs developed as educational institutions that combined the traditional values of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) with the organizational structure of modern schools. This study employs a literature review method to examine the evolution of madrasah governance from the colonial era to the reform era. The findings reveal three major stages in the development of madrasah management. The first stage was the early period, during which madrasahs were independently managed by religious leaders and Islamic organizations with limited government involvement. The second stage was the post-independence integration period, characterized by increasing government intervention in curriculum development, institutional regulation, and legal recognition. The third stage was the modernization era, marked by the issuance of the Joint Decree of the Three Ministers in 1975 and the enactment of the National Education System Law of 2003, which strengthened the position of madrasahs within the national education system and placed them on an equal footing with public schools. These developments encouraged madrasahs to adopt Madrasah-Based Management (MBM) as a strategy to improve educational quality, effectiveness, and competitiveness. Overall, the transformation of madrasah management reflects an adaptive process that enables madrasahs to respond to educational reforms and societal changes while maintaining their distinctive Islamic identity and educational mission.

This study traces the history of the development of Islamic educational organizations in Indonesia from the pre-colonial period to the Reformation era using a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature review. The findings indicate that Islamic education developed gradually, beginning with informal institutions centered around mosques and pesantren, and later responding to colonial pressures with the emergence of organizations such as Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama. This development continued through the formal recognition of madrasahs during the independence era, modernization under the New Order regime, and more dynamic institutional transformations during the Reform era. Amid various challenges such as educational dualism, resource constraints, and the threat of extremism, Islamic educational organizations continue to innovate by integrating religious and general knowledge without abandoning their Islamic identity. This study affirms that Islamic educational organizations are the primary foundation for building a character-based national education system.

This study discusses the role of Islamic educational philosophy in guiding the transformation of pesantren education in the modern era. Islamic education in Indonesia plays an important role in shaping students’ character, spirituality, and intellectual abilities, with pesantren as one of the oldest institutions that preserve Islamic values. However, the rapid development of globalization and technology requires pesantren to adapt without losing their identity. This research aims to explain how Islamic educational philosophy becomes the foundation for transformation and to identify forms of change that are relevant to current challenges. The study uses a qualitative approach through a literature review, collecting data from journals and other relevant sources. Data are analyzed using content analysis by organizing and comparing findings from different studies. This study aims to examine the existence of dayah as a traditional Islamic educational institution in Aceh in facing the challenges of modernization, as well as to analyze its history, curriculum, and the dynamics of educational transformation within it. This research employs a qualitative approach through library research by collecting data from various sources such as books, scientific journals, research articles, and documents relevant to the topic. The findings indicate that dayah is one of the oldest Islamic educational institutions in Aceh that developed since the early spread of Islam in the Indonesian archipelago and has played an important role in the dissemination of Islamic teachings, moral development, and the formation of social life within the community. The educational system in dayah focuses on the study of classical Islamic texts (kitab kuning) and Islamic sciences through traditional learning methods such as halaqah, religious book studies, and direct learning with teungku or Islamic scholars. Over time, dayah institutions have undergone various transformations through the integration of general subjects, curriculum reform, and improvements in educational management systems in order to remain relevant to modern societal needs. Modernization presents challenges for dayah, particularly in maintaining a balance between tradition and educational innovation. Nevertheless, dayah continues to preserve its Islamic identity while gradually adapting to contemporary developments. Therefore, dayah not only survives as a traditional educational institution but also develops into an adaptive and relevant Islamic educational institution that continues to play a significant role in shaping character and religious values in Acehnese society.

The subject of corpse care is one of the important competencies in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at the senior high school level, which is obligatory (fardhu kifayah). However, the complexity of the material and the presence of psychological barriers often make students less interested or feel afraid. This study aims to analyze in-depth the perceptions of SMA YATPI Godong students regarding the importance of corpse care, the factors that influence these perceptions, and the urgency of this competency as a provision for social life. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach supported by simple quantitative data percentages. The subjects were 35 grade XI students, selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection was carried out through participant observation, questionnaire distribution, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis followed an interactive model that includes data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the majority of students (82.8%) had a very positive perception of the urgency of this material and were aware of its socio-cultural responsibility. The main factors influencing students' perceptions included the demonstration method using mannequins implemented by teachers, internal religiosity values, and the encouragement of societal expectations. These skills are considered essential not only for fulfilling academic obligations but also as a form of student readiness to engage and contribute significantly to their social environment in the event of grief.

The rapid transformation of education driven by globalization and technological advancement demands adaptive learning approaches that align with the characteristics of Generation Z learners. This generation is known for its curiosity, independence in thinking, and openness to diverse perspectives, yet it is also vulnerable to misinformation and negative online influences. Within the context of Islamic education, learning is not solely oriented toward cognitive development but also emphasizes the cultivation of moral values, particularly tolerance. This study aims to explore how contextual teaching methods can contribute to fostering tolerant attitudes among Generation Z students in Islamic educational settings. The research employs a qualitative approach through library research, utilizing a descriptive-analytical framework. Data were collected from various sources, including academic journals, books, and previous studies related to contextual learning, multicultural education, and Generation Z characteristics. The data collection technique involved document analysis, followed by content analysis procedures such as data reduction, categorization, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that contextual learning effectively promotes tolerance by engaging students in discussion, problem-solving, reflection, and real-life experiences. The integration of multicultural values and the role of teachers as facilitators and role models further strengthen this process. However, challenges remain, including limited teacher understanding, the persistence of conventional methods, inadequate supporting facilities, and the influence of social media. Overall, contextual learning presents a relevant strategy for developing open-minded, balanced, and socially adaptive Generation Z learners.

This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic educational philosophy in shaping religious moderation among the younger generation and to identify challenges in its implementation. This research employs a qualitative approach using a library research method through content analysis of relevant literature and academic sources. The findings reveal that Islamic educational philosophy has a significant role in promoting the values of tawazun (balance), tasamuh (tolerance), i’tidal (justice), and wasathiyah (moderation) as the foundation of moderate religious attitudes and behaviors. The implementation of these values is reflected through curriculum integration, inclusive learning processes, and the development of a supportive school culture that encourages mutual respect and diversity. Nevertheless, several obstacles still hinder its effectiveness, including narrow religious understanding, low levels of digital literacy, the spread of radical narratives in social media, and limited teacher competence in implementing moderation-based education. Therefore, strengthening religious moderation requires synergy among philosophical concepts, educators, families, communities, and the national education system.

Amid the accelerating rhythm of digital culture, academic competition, and the changing patterns of student life in higher education, the formation of Muslim student character has become an increasingly urgent concern. A campus mosque can no longer be viewed merely as a place of worship; it must also be understood as a strategic nonformal Islamic educational space that nurtures spirituality, morality, social awareness, and student identity in a more contextual way. This study aims to analyze the role of the campus mosque as a space for shaping Muslim student character through the Islamic mentoring program at Masjid Syamsul Ulum, Telkom University. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach based on document study and thematic analysis of scholarly articles, mentoring program documents, and relevant works on campus mosques, religious moderation, and student character education. The findings show that the mentoring program at Masjid Syamsul Ulum is systematically designed through a clear structure, curriculum, methods, evaluation tools, and mentor regeneration, all of which are integrated with the institutional values of Harmony, Excellence, and Integrity. Socioculturally, the program functions not only as a medium for religious instruction but also as a process of value internalization, habituation of religious practice, strengthening of moderation, and construction of Muslim student identity within a technology-oriented university environment. This study proposes a conceptual understanding that the campus mosque can serve as a strategic space for shaping Muslim students who are religious, moderate, collaborative, and adaptive in the digital era.

Islamic education emphasizes the formation of disciplined character, which can be developed through habituation from an early age. This study aims to describe the process of forming students’ disciplined character through daily worship habituation at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Guppi Pagerlor 2. The school was selected due to its relatively small number of students and its structured and intensive worship programs. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that the consistent and routine practice of daily worship contributes to the development of students’ discipline, particularly in terms of punctuality, compliance with rules, and responsibility. A structured guidance system, the role of teachers as educators, and the implementation of rewards and educational sanctions were identified as the main supporting factors. However, limitations in facilities and lack of family support remain challenges. Therefore, daily worship habituation plays a significant role in fostering students’ disciplined character and strengthening character education in the madrasah.
