JOURNAL OF BIOLOGY LEARNING 2025 Universitas Veteran Bangun Nusantara Sukoharjo

Learning that is still dominated by teacher-centered approaches tends to result in passive student participation and low learning outcomes. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of the Socio-Scientific Problem-Based Learning (SSPBL) model and the Stimulus Environment Problem Solving (SEPS) model in improving student learning outcomes in the Ecology course. The research employed a quasi-experimental design involving two groups of fourth-semester Biology Education students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta in the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. Each group consisted of 20 students; one was taught using the SSPBL model, and the other using the SEPS model. Data were analyzed using the independent sample t-test and effect size analysis. The results showed that the SSPBL group achieved significantly higher cognitive learning outcomes than the SEPS group in both Cycle I (sig. = 0.041) and Cycle II (sig. = 0.049). The effect size results further confirmed the high effectiveness of the SSPBL model, with values of 2.846 (Cycle I) and 3.413 (Cycle II), categorized as "high." These findings indicate that the SSPBL model is more effective in improving learning outcomes, particularly in developing higher-order thinking skills through the integration of scientific concepts and socio-scientific issues. This study recommends the implementation of the SSPBL model in science education to foster deeper conceptual understanding and critical thinking among students.

The purpose of this study is to determine the most effective setting time for collapsible crab traps in catching blue swimming crabs (Portunus pelagicus) in the waters of Tanjung Kait, as well as to assess whether the setting time affects the number of crabs caught across three different time periods. The research method used in this study is an experimental method. Experimental research fundamentally aims to test the relationship between cause and effect. This study employs a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with nine repetitions, using three different setting times: morning, noon, and night. The results of this study indicate no significant difference between the three setting times—morning, noon, and night. Although variations in the number of crabs caught at different times were observed, statistical analysis confirms that these differences are not significant. Therefore, blue swimming crab fishers in the waters of Tanjung Kait can use any of these three setting times to achieve effective catches.

The release of medical information is the process of disclosing or sharing information about a patient's health condition, medical history, or medical examination results with other parties. Due to the sensitive nature of the information contained in medical records, healthcare providers are obligated to ensure that all information is appropriately accountable. This study aims to explore the work activities of medical record officers and health information management in the process of releasing medical information to insurance parties at Tarakan Regional General Hospital (RSUD Tarakan). This research uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach by explaining the results of interviews regarding the work activities of medical record officers and health information management in the process of releasing medical information to insurance parties. RSUD Tarakan already has standard operating procedures related to the release of medical information, both to insurance parties that cooperate and to those that do not cooperate. In the work activities of the officers, the stages of data collection for insurance types, the request flow stage, data collection stage, data processing stage, and data presentation stage involve the insurance services and fundraising departments in the release process for cooperating insurance parties. Meanwhile, the medical records department and the information department are only involved in the release of medical information to non-cooperating insurance parties. The challenges in releasing medical information to non-cooperating insurance parties include the lack of requirements provided by patients, as they are often unaware of the necessary documents and the process for requesting the release of medical information, which can cause delays in the process.

This study investigates the interplay between linguistic relativity and cultural schemata, examining how language encodes culturally salient concepts and shapes cognitive frameworks across diverse communities. Through ethnographic and psycholinguistic approaches, the study collects data from 12 different language communities with varied cultural backgrounds. Cross-linguistic and cross-cultural analyses reveal significant correlations between linguistic structures—such as grammatical categories, lexical distinctions, and metaphorical expressions—and culturally specific schemata in spatial, temporal, and social domains. Perception and cognitive reasoning experiments were conducted with 450 participants to test linguistic relativity hypotheses in cultural contexts. Quantitative and qualitative findings demonstrate that linguistic patterns both reflect and reinforce cultural norms, influencing perception and cognitive strategies. Analysis of cultural text corpora shows how linguistic categories serve as vehicles for internalizing cultural values and worldviews. Specifically, the study finds systematic variations in spatial information processing, time conceptualization, and social event interpretation that correlate with language features of respective communities. These results underscore the co-constitutive relationship between language and culture in shaping human thought, providing important implications for cross-cultural education, intercultural communication, and cognitive theory.

The research departs from the phenomenon of the development of Islamic boarding school education models with varying names and styles. Islamic boarding schools are faced with two important problems in adapting to the demands of the times, namely the problem of developing Islamic boarding school governance without abandoning tradition and the Islamic boarding school's identity in producing a generation with good morals. The research objectives are to identify the management of Sufistic curriculum development in Islamic boarding schools including; 1) Curriculum planning, 2) Curriculum organization, 3) Curriculum implementation, 4) Curriculum evaluation and 5) Impact of Islamic boarding school management in developing the Sufistic curriculum at Al-Istiqomah Islamic Boarding School and Al-Falah Biru Islamic Boarding School, Garut Regency. The research framework departs from George R. Terry's (1973) management theory, namely four management functions, namely: 1) Planning, 2) Organizing, 3) Actuating, 4) Controlling. The curriculum theory uses the Ralph W curriculum development model. Tyler curriculum development is carried out in systematic stages, namely; Objectives, Selecting Learning Experiences, Organizing Learning Experiences, Evaluation. Developing the Islamic boarding school curriculum has an impact on the morals of the students, as according to Sheikh Musthafa Al-Ghalayini, the implications of Sufistic moral values contribute to shaping behavior. This study uses a qualitative approach using the Ethnography method. Data collection techniques are carried out through interviews, observations and documentation analysis. The data analysis technique uses the Miles and Huberman analysis technique. While the validity test is carried out with data validity by conducting tests; credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. The results of the study found that the management of the development of the Islamic boarding school curriculum in preparing a generation with Sufi morals: First, the Islamic boarding school curriculum is included in the traditionalist model of the school, namely by showing its traditional and school character. Second, the organization of the curriculum content consists of the contents of the curriculum, data, concepts, generalizations, and subject matter at the Islamic Boarding School. Third, Curriculum development is categorized as a grass roots model where there are initiatives and efforts coming from below, namely ustadz and Islamic boarding schools in developing a curriculum that is designed by themselves to produce a generation with Sufi morals. Fourth, Curriculum evaluation refers to the Objective Model Evaluation model (objective model) carried out at the end of curriculum development, this assessment activity is often called summative evaluation. Fifth, The impact of curriculum management on the level of morals is shown by the nature of istiqomah, self-control, prioritizing Islamic and basyariyah brotherhood, tolerance, honesty, sincerity, istiqomah, patience, gratitude, politeness and helping each other. Sixth, Traditionalist Hypothetical Management Model of the School.

Many students face difficulties and lack confidence when it comes to English pronunciation, often doubting whether their pronunciation is correct. One significant challenge they face is the difference in dialect and pronunciation between their native language and the target language. In Indonesia, a Muslim-majority country, many students are familiar with Arabic, particularly in pesantren-based schools. Arabic and English share certain phonetic features, especially in the fricative consonant sounds, which could help Indonesian students learn English pronunciation more easily. This study explores how learning Arabic might aid in improving English pronunciation, specifically focusing on fricative sounds. Using a mixed-methods approach that combines both quantitative and qualitative data, this research applies a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design. The study involved fifteen junior high school students in grade VIII from an Islamic character school. The primary goal of the research was to assess how the students’ English pronunciation, particularly on fricative sounds, improved after learning Arabic. The results show a significant improvement in the pronunciation of /f/, /ʃ/, /s/, /z/, and /ʒ/ sounds. However, the students showed less improvement in the pronunciation of /ð/ and /θ/ sounds. This suggests that while Arabic may offer some advantages in mastering specific English sounds, there may be challenges that still hinder the improvement of other English consonants. These findings could provide insights into language learning strategies and the potential role of Arabic in enhancing English pronunciation.
