The Qur'an, as the guiding book for Muslims, contains profound meanings that have consistently attracted scholarly attention throughout history. To comprehend these meanings, various interpretive methods have been developed and categorized based on their forms: Tafsir bi al-Matsur, Tafsir bi al-Ra’yi, and Tafsir bi al-Isyari. This article explores the characteristics, methods, and contributions of each type of interpretation in understanding the Qur'an. Tafsir bi al-Matsur relies on the traditions of the Prophet, his companions, and successors, providing an authoritative foundation. Tafsir bi al-Ra’yi integrates reason and ijtihad to address contemporary challenges. Meanwhile, Tafsir bi al-Isyari emphasizes esoteric dimensions that are symbolic and spiritual in nature. This study reveals that these three forms of tafsir complement each other in bridging human understanding of the Qur'an and addressing the intellectual and spiritual needs of Muslims in various life contexts.

Hijrah is a monumental event in Islamic history, not only marking the Prophet Muhammad's move from Mecca to Medina, but also a symbol of profound spiritual and social transformation. The Quranic verses that narrate the hijrah, in addition to being a historical record, also contain universal meanings that are relevant to this day. This study aims to examine the meaning and relevance of the interpretation of Quranic verses about hijrah in the context of modern life. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach to collect information from various sources.  Hijrah refers to the departure of the Prophet Muhammad SAW from the city of  Mecca to the city of Yastrib, which is now known as Medina. Hijrah started from the Prophet Muhammad SAW from Mecca to Medina.  In Mecca, Muslims experienced systematic oppression by the polytheists, who ruled the region. Then Prophet Muhammad migrated to Medina due to increasing oppression in Makkah, which made the Muslims suffer. The Quranic verses on hijrah describe the process of change and struggle in building an independent and sovereign Muslim community. Interpretation of the verses on hijrah not only focuses on the historical aspects, but also emphasizes the meaning and values contained therein. A deep understanding of the interpretation of the verses about hijrah provides inspiration and motivation for Muslims to live a meaningful and meaningful life.

Blasphemy in the context of Quranic exegesis is a highly relevant topic in religious and Islamic legal discourse. This paper aims to examine the concept of blasphemy from the perspective of Quranic interpretation, as well as how the interpretation of verses related to religious insults can influence the understanding of Muslims regarding the limits of freedom of speech and religious practices. This research utilizes a qualitative method with a contextual exegesis approach to analyze the verses often associated with blasphemy. The findings indicate that the interpretation of these verses heavily depends on the historical and social context, as well as the jurisprudential approach used in understanding Islamic laws. Furthermore, this paper highlights the importance of tolerance and respect for differences in faith when addressing issues of blasphemy, and the need for a wise approach in interpreting sacred texts. Finally, the paper suggests the necessity of interfaith dialogue and a more inclusive approach in discussing issues of blasphemy to avoid conflict and maintain social harmony.

The poem Sajak Tafsir by Sapardi Djoko Damono is a literary work that uses simple language but is full of meaning. In this study, the author adopts an objective approach to explore the meaning of the poem. Objectively, the approach analyzed views literary works as objects that stand alone, without involving other elements outside them. This poem reflects an emotional journey filled with natural symbolism, such as the last leaf, wind, fire, and ash, to depict fear, fragility, and the sacrifice of love. Sapardi is famous for his invitation to interpret his poetry freely, therefore this analysis explores the meaning of the poetry as reflected in the natural metaphors and symbolism used.

Self-confidence is an important element in achieving success and happiness, and has a significant positive relationship with motivation to learn. However, many individuals face challenges in building their self-confidence due to social pressure and negative experiences. In this context, this study explores sources of motivation from a Quranic perspective, specifically through Surah At-Thaha verses 25-28, which describe Prophet Moses' plea to Allah for peace and ease in facing life's challenges. Tafsir Al-Misbah by Quraish Shihab provides the insight that self-confidence should be built on faith in Allah and recognition of one's potential. This study also highlights the importance of social support, appreciation, and a supportive environment in building self-confidence. Using a qualitative approach and literature review, the results show that self-confidence can be strengthened through spiritual connection, internal reinforcement, and recognition of personal weaknesses, which ultimately encourages individuals to express themselves and reach their full potential. This research is expected to inspire readers to apply Quranic values in their daily lives, in order to increase self-confidence and freedom of expression.

This research aims to analyze the existence and strategic role of the Lembaga Inspirasi Al-Qur’an (LIA) in transforming media-based da'wah into a global tafsir literacy movement. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and digital documentation, this study explores how LIA addresses the challenges of religious literacy among urban communities. The research findings indicate that LIA has successfully developed an integrated da'wah model that combines three main pillars: broadcasting media through the "One Day One Ayat" program on RRI, the production of tafsir literacy (Tafsir Inspirasi, Tafseer of Inspiration, and the Tafsir Muyassar Inspirasi project), and social movements based on waqf. The historical roots of LIA, which began with radio-based da'wah activities in 2006, evolved into a formal institution in 2012 with state recognition through the tashih certification from the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. The strategy of cross-country intellectual collaboration and a waqf distribution system spanning 24 provinces and 10 countries are key to expanding the reach of this tafsir literacy. The results conclude that LIA's success lies in its moderate thematic tafsir methodology, linguistic innovation (bilingualism), and a systematic operational system in grounding the messages of the Al-Qur’an at the grassroots level dynamically.

This study examines the implementation of sakinah (tranquilty) family development at the religious affairs office (KUA) of Medan Denai subdistrict, North Sumatera Utara, Indonesia, trough the Qur'anic perspective of Surah Ar-Rum verse 21 as interpreted in Tafsir Al-Misbah by M. Quraish Shihab. The verse elucidates one of Allah's signs in creating spouses from among humankind to attain tranquility (sakinah), affection (mawaddah), and mercy (rahmah) within marital bonds. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with religious counselors and newlywed couples, and documentation analysis of premarital counseling programs at KUA Medan Denai. Findings reveal that the office has integrated the triadic values of sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah into its premarital guidance modules grounded in contextual Qur'anic interpretation. However, post-marital follow-up remains limited, affecting sustainability. Tafsir Al-Misbah provides a robust conceptual framework by interpreting sakinah as spiritual serenity rooted in faith, mawaddah as active emotional commitment, and rahmah as divine compassion manifested in daily family interactions. The study concludes that optimizing sakinah family development requires strengthening thematic Qur'anic-based counseling modules and establishing continuous post-nuptial mentoring to foster families that are spiritually grounded, emotionally resilient, and socially responsible. This research contributes to the discourse on integrating classical Qur'anic exegesis with contemporary family counseling practices in Indonesia's religious bureaucracy.

Maktabah, as an institution providing Islamic information, plays an important role in supporting the development of Qur'an studies and tafsir. This article aims to examine the contribution of the Maktabah of the Indonesian Ulema Council of North Sumatra in facilitating scientific activities related to the Qur'an and interpretation through the provision of collection materials, services, and institutional assistance. This research applies a qualitative approach with a literature study method equipped with a descriptive analysis of the function of maktabah as an Islamic reference center. Data were obtained from institutional documents, collection catalogs, and supporting literature relevant to the development of Qur'an studies. The findings of the study revealed that maktabah functions as a forum for scientific documentation, a channel for the dissemination of interpretive knowledge, and a tool to increase Qur'an literacy for academics and the wider community. In addition, the maktabah also supports discussions, seminars, and research activities based on classical and contemporary texts, thereby strengthening the Islamic scientific tradition at the regional level. The existence of maktabah also contributes to building a literacy culture based on authoritative sources and encourages integration between textual and contextual studies in understanding the Qur'an. These findings highlight the urgency of improving management, digitizing services, strengthening human resources, and expanding the collection of maktabah to meet the demands of Qur'an study and interpretation in a sustainable manner in the modern era.

This research aims to analyze the interpretation of Surah Al-Baqarah verses 275–279, which comprehensively discuss the concept of usury (riba) in Islam. These verses emphasize the fundamental distinction between usury and lawful trade, while clearly stating the prohibition of riba as an economic practice that leads to injustice and exploitation. This study employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, using primary sources such as the Qur’an, classical and contemporary tafsir books, and other relevant supporting literature. The findings indicate that riba is viewed as a practice that damages social and economic order because it contradicts the principles of justice, fairness, and mutual assistance. Furthermore, these verses highlight severe warnings for those who persist in usury and call upon believers to repent and abandon any remaining claims derived from riba. This research is expected to contribute to a deeper understanding of the prohibition of riba and its relevance to modern economic systems, particularly in applying Islamic values of justice, ethical responsibility, and social welfare in contemporary society.

This study examines the asbab al-nuzul of Q.S. al-Baqarah (2):220 and its relevance to the concept of orphan care in Islamic thought. Employing a library research method with a qualitative-descriptive approach, the study analyzes the Qur’anic text, classical tafsir works (such as al-Tabari, Ibn Kathir, and al-Qurtubi), authoritative asbab al-nuzul sources (al-Waḥidi and al-Suyuti), as well as contemporary scholarly literature and recent journal articles (2020–2024). The findings indicate that Q.S. al-Baqarah (2):220 was revealed as a corrective response to the excessive caution among the Companions following stern warnings against unjust consumption of orphans’ property. The verse emphasizes the principle of islaḥ (reform and welfare) as the primary criterion for interactions with orphans. A thematic reading, complemented by related verses such as Q.S. al-Nisa’ (4):2 and (4):10 and Q.S. al-Duha (93):9, demonstrates that orphan care in Islam integrates legal, ethical, psychological, and social dimensions, prioritizing dignity and social integration over isolation. Contemporary studies further affirm the relevance of this verse to modern child protection principles, particularly the best interest of the child and family-based care models. This study recommends the development of orphan care policies rooted in family and community-based approaches, guided by trustworthiness, transparency, and holistic welfare.

The focus of the study is directed at the forms of da’wah activities, the methods of delivering the material, and the responses of the students (santri) to the presence of university students acting as young preachers who are directly involved in the process of religious guidance within the boarding school environment. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach employing field observation techniques, in-depth interviews with relevant parties, and documentation as supporting research data. The results of the study indicate that IAT students are able to integrate their understanding of tafsir with a contextual communicative approach, making the Qur’anic material easier for students with different levels of ability to understand. The da’wah activities include thematic religious studies, tahsin and tahfiz of the Qur’an, Islamic discussions, and the development of students’ morals and character in their daily lives. The main supporting factors are the support from the boarding school authorities, a conducive learning environment, and the academic readiness of the students. Meanwhile, the obstacles encountered include limited time for implementing the activities and variations in students’ abilities to comprehend the material. In general, this observation provides valuable practical experience for students in applying the theory of Qur’anic da’wah while also strengthening the synergy between higher education institutions and Islamic boarding schools in developing sustainable Qur’an-based da’wah.

Waqf is one of the instruments of Islamic philanthropy that plays a strategic role in building sustainable welfare for the people. Although the term waqf is not explicitly mentioned in the Qur'an, its basic values are scattered throughout various verses that talk about infaq, almsgiving, distribution of wealth, and social justice. This article aims to analyse Qur'anic verses that have a substantial connection with the concept of waqf through a thematic (maudhu'i) interpretation approach, as well as to examine its relevance to efforts to improve the welfare of the ummah in a contemporary context. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive literature review method, drawing on the Qur'an, classical and contemporary interpretations, and scientific literature related to waqf and Islamic economics. The results of the study show that the principle of waqf in the Qur'an emphasises the sustainability of benefits, the trustworthiness of asset management, and an orientation towards social justice, all of which are relevant to the development of productive waqf as a solution for the welfare of the modern community.

Happiness is one of the natural attitudes of humans when getting a lot of pleasure from Allah SWT, such as health and sustenance. However, not many of humans are correct in responding to these blessings, pleasures that are not properly addressed are termed istidraj. Istidraj is a punishment given by Allah SWT to the perpetrators of immorality in the form of worldly pleasures that seem beautiful but cause negligence in the real world. Therefore, it is necessary to be aware of istidraj as a sign of caution in order to avoid immoral acts. The phenomenon  of istidraj in this study explores the concept of this in the Qur'an through the perspective of two mufasirs, namely al-Imam al-Qurtubi and Wahbah al-Zuhaily in answering 2 focuses, namely: 1. How to interpret istidraj in the Qur'an according to al-Imam al-Qurtubi and Wahbah al-Zuhaily 2. What are the similarities and differences between al-Imam al-Qurtubi and Wahbah al-Zuhaily regarding istidraj. To understand the concept of the istidraj phenomenon, this study applies a qualitative method of literature study with a comparative study approach. In this approach, the researcher compares the interpretation of al-Imam al-Qurtubi through the tafsir "Al-Jami' li al-Ahkam al-Qur'an" with the interpretation of Wahbah al-Zuhaily through the tafsir "Al-Tafsir al-Munir". The researcher examined the interpretation data from the two mufasirs related to the concept of istidraj. A comparative approach is used to gain a deeper understanding and see the differences and similarities in the views of the two towards istidraj. As for the results of this research, al-Qurtubi sees istidraj as a gradual punishment process for those who deny the verses of Allah SWT. Wahbah al-Zuhaily sees it as a gift of favor or success. Both mufasirs agree that istidraj involves giving pleasure as a test of Allah. The difference in interpretation lies in the context of the object  of istidraj. al-Zuhaily emphasizes his interpretation on the test of a servant, while al-Qurtubi emphasizes the interpretation of istidraj on slow withdrawal as punishment.

Contextual interpretation, developed by Abdullah Saeed, is a relevant approach in dealing with societal problems in the 21st century. This method does not only focus on the text of the Qur'anic verse, but also understands the micro, macro, and social development, culture, and circumstances of today. Thus, contextual tafsir can provide alternative solutions to socio-religious problems faced by contemporary society.

This study discusses the interpretation of verses of the Qur'an related to the illegal taking of other people's property, especially in the context of the confiscation of corruptor assets, based on the views of Muhammad Quraish Shihab (Tafsir Al-Misbah), Hamka (Tafsir Al-Azhar), Ibn Kathir (Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Azhim), and Wahbah Zuhaili (Tafsir al-Munir). This study uses a qualitative method with a library research approach to conceptually examine various things that are correlated with corruption from the perspective of the Qur'an. Therefore, this study is a type of qualitative and thematic research through literature review, namely by writing, reducing, and presenting data and analyzing it, as well as the theory of maqashid sharia and jinayah. The results of the study show that the commentators support the confiscation of corruptors' assets as a legitimate action in Islam, by the principles of maqashid al-syariah, especially the protection of property (hifz al-mal). Quraish Shihab emphasizes the importance of asset confiscation to restore justice and protect society. Hamka sees this action as a just punishment that also restores the rights of society. Ibn Kathir emphasizes that corruption must be punished strictly to prevent greater damage. Wahbah Zuhaili emphasizes the authority of the government in upholding justice and preventing injustice, including through the confiscation of illegal assets. This interpretation provides a strong theological basis for the policy of asset confiscation as part of the enforcement of Islamic law, emphasizing that such action is necessary to maintain balance and stability in society.

This study explores the integration of Islamic epistemology with modern scientific methodologies, proposing a pluralistic epistemic framework that bridges the gap between divine revelation (wahyu), rationality (aql), and empirical knowledge. The research investigates the comparative relationship between traditional Islamic knowledge systems, particularly classical Qur'anic hermeneutics, modern tafsir approaches, and contemporary scientific methods. Traditional Islamic epistemology, grounded in metaphysical and theological frameworks, often emphasizes the separation of spiritual knowledge from empirical science. However, modern scientific methodologies, which prioritize empirical observation and rational inquiry, have created challenges for reconciling Islamic thought with contemporary scientific paradigms. This study identifies common epistemic grounds, such as the use of reason, observation, and the search for truth, as shared goals between Islamic epistemology and modern science. The proposed integrative model of Islamic epistemic pluralism offers a more cohesive and relevant approach to knowledge by acknowledging both spiritual and scientific insights. This model suggests that divine revelation and empirical science can coexist in an inclusive epistemic framework, providing a more comprehensive understanding of reality. The implications of this integrative model for Islamic thought, education, and research are significant, suggesting potential for broader interdisciplinary collaboration and a more holistic approach to addressing modern challenges. The study concludes by calling for further research into practical frameworks for applying Islamic epistemic pluralism across various fields, such as social sciences, engineering, and environmental studies, to contribute to a more inclusive and dynamic global intellectual discourse.
