This paper aims to examine how the values of local customs and culture of South Tapanuli can be integrated in the character-building program of students in Madrasah. In the context of education, character is one of the important aspects that must be considered to form a generation that has good morality and a sense of love for the country. Along with the times, the process of preserving local culture is also increasingly threatened, so the integration of local culture in character education becomes very relevant. This paper uses a qualitative research method with a systematic literature review approach to identify cultural values that exist in South Tapanuli society, such as the concept of gotong royong, respect for parents, and the principles of simplicity and togetherness. These values are believed to be a strong foundation in the character-building process in Madrasahs, as well as instilling pride in the local culture itself. The results of this study indicate that the application of South Tapanuli customary and cultural values in character building in Madrasahs not only enriches the curriculum, but also strengthens social relations between students and between students and the surrounding environment.

Education plays a strategic role as a tool for social transformation capable of shaping individual character, addressing social inequality, and driving societal change. In the Indonesian context, character education has become a central issue in building a generation that is faithful, pious, morally upright, and responsible in accordance with the values of Pancasila. Through a holistic approach, character education integrates spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and social aspects to create quality individuals. Furthermore, learning methods that involve role modeling, habituation, and community participation emphasize the importance of collaboration between schools, families, and communities. As an agent of change, education also aims to create a knowledge-based society where science, innovation, and problem-solving serve as key pillars. Through lifelong learning, problem-based learning, and collaborative approaches, education provides space for the development of human potential relevant to global challenges. However, challenges such as educational disparities, curriculum relevance, and teacher capacity remain obstacles that need to be addressed through inclusive policies, continuous training, and improvements in educational infrastructure. By adopting an integrated approach, education can serve as a solid foundation for building a just, inclusive, and adaptive society in response to social changes.

This study aims to examine the application of sincerity values in character building for children at PAUD KB Hidayatullah Gading Kulon Banyuanyar Probolinggo. The research method used is a qualitative approach with interviews and observations as data collection techniques. This study aims to analyze the comparison between the curriculum of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) and Elementary Schools (SD) in shaping students' religious character. A qualitative approach with a descriptive method was employed to explore in depth the differences and similarities of the two curricula, particularly in the aspects of religious values integrated into the learning process. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and curriculum document analysis from several MIs and SDs in Banjarmasin. The findings reveal that the MI curriculum focuses more on strengthening Islamic education through specialized subjects such as Al-Qur'an, Hadith, Fiqh, and Akhlak, as well as integrating religious values into general subjects. Meanwhile, the SD curriculum positions Islamic education as part of the subject "Religious Education and Character Building," which has a more limited portion compared to MI. However, SD excels in implementing thematic approaches that connect moral values with everyday life contexts. This study concludes that the MI curriculum is more effective in deeply cultivating religious character, while the SD curriculum tends to reinforce moral values within a more universal framework. These findings are expected to serve as an evaluation resource for education policymakers to enhance the integration of religious values holistically in both types of educational institutions.
