This study examines the extent to which the compatibility between a student's major and their interests affects their learning experience at Universitas Negeri Medan (UNIMED), particularly in the Accounting Department. The findings indicate that many students feel that their major aligns with their interests, which in turn boosts their enthusiasm for learning. However, some students choose their major due to parental pressure or promising job prospects, which ultimately leads to difficulties in their studies. Additionally, students face various challenges in the learning process, ranging from heavy academic workloads, difficulties in understanding certain subjects, to the pressure of managing time between classes and other activities. These challenges are exacerbated by the demands of mastering accounting technology and adapting to an Outcome-Based Education system. To overcome these obstacles, students employ various strategies, such as improving time management, seeking additional learning resources, joining academic communities, and securing scholarships or part-time jobs for those experiencing financial constraints. This research confirms that the alignment of a major with a student's interests significantly influences their academic success. Therefore, it is essential for the university to provide better guidance in major selection and offer enhanced academic support to help students adapt more easily and succeed in their studies.

A healthy latrine is one of the essential sanitation facilities aimed at maintaining environmental health and improving public health in general. This research was conducted because the use of healthy latrines in Webetun Village remains low, where defecating in the forest has become a common practice among the community. This habit triggers the emergence of diseases such as diarrhea, malnutrition, undernutrition, dengue fever, and respiratory infections. This study aims to examine the behavior of latrine use in households in Webetun Village, Rinhat Subdistrict, Malaka Regency. This research uses a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The study involved 66 housewives who owned healthy latrines, selected through simple random sampling. Data analysis was conducted using the chi-square test. The results showed that variables such as latrine ownership (p=0.000) and water availability (p=0.000) were significantly associated with latrine use, while knowledge (p=0.681), attitude (p=0.588), actions (p=0.007), community leader support (p=0.081), and health worker support (p=0.069) were not significantly associated with latrine use. The findings revealed that water availability significantly influences latrine use. The availability of water facilitates family members in utilizing latrine facilities for activities such as flushing and maintaining cleanliness. Water availability also contributes to user comfort in maintaining latrine hygiene. Conversely, water scarcity hinders optimal latrine use by family members, potentially reducing utilization levels. The study findings also identified a correlation between latrine ownership and its use. Families are considered critical factors in shaping individual health behavior. The relationship between proper latrine ownership and usage behavior can be seen through the role of education in increasing awareness levels for adopting a healthy and clean lifestyle.

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is an engaging and enjoyable method within the teaching and learning process. This approach is based on the understanding that academic success alone is insufficient to support students’ holistic development. One of the factors contributing to low learning motivation among students is the lack of implementation of social-emotional learning strategies in the classroom. This study aims to examine how the application of social-emotional learning in Catholic Religious Education influences student learning motivation. The research employed a quantitative method using a quasi-experimental design. The subjects were Grade 10 students at St. Joseph Catholic Vocational High School (SMK Katolik St. Yosef Nenuk). A total of 15 students from the Automotive Engineering class formed the experimental group, while another 15 students from the Building Construction and Computer Networking classes were assigned to the control group. The sample was selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and documentation, then analyzed using an independent two-sample t-test to test the hypothesis. The results showed a significant difference in student motivation between those taught with SEL and those taught with conventional methods. This is evidenced by a t-test significance value of 0.000, which is less than 0.05. In other words, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. These findings reinforce that social-emotional learning is more effective than conventional teaching methods in increasing student motivation, particularly in Catholic Religious Education

The family is the first and foremost environment that provides children with social and linguistic experiences. Parents and other family members serve as the child's first language model, significantly influencing their language development in the future. This literature study aims to analyze the impact of the family environment on the language skills of elementary school students. The study employs a literature review method by referencing previous research journals relevant to the topic.Through journal searches, five relevant studies were identified. The majority of these studies applied a descriptive method design with a qualitative approach, while some also incorporated ex-post facto quantitative methods. Despite variations in research findings, all studies consistently indicate that the family environment plays a crucial role in shaping children's language skills. Factors such as parental involvement, the frequency of verbal interactions at home, and the availability of reading materials contribute significantly to children's linguistic development. Additionally, supportive family environments, where parents actively engage in conversations and storytelling, positively impact children's vocabulary acquisition and reading abilities.Based on the literature review results, it can be concluded that the family environment influences children's language skills. While the findings of each study may differ, they share a common conclusion regarding the significance of family interactions in shaping children's reading and communication abilities. These findings highlight the importance of fostering a language-rich home environment to support children's linguistic growth. Future research is suggested to further explore strategies that enhance parental involvement in children's language development.

Organisms and their natural environments are inherently connected and interdependent, with humans relying extensively on natural resources to meet daily needs and sustain life. Among them, indigenous communities maintain a distinctive relationship with their surroundings, guided by traditional ecological knowledge passed down orally from generation to generation. This body of knowledge, known as local wisdom, is deeply embedded within the natural, social, and cultural contexts of each community and plays a vital role in ensuring their long-term survival and well-being. The present study aims to examine the current socio-cultural conditions of customary law communities in three indigenous villages of Jayapura City—Kayu Batu, Kayo Pulau, and Skouw Yambe. Specifically, it seeks to identify the types of local wisdom practiced within these communities and to assess the efforts undertaken to preserve such traditions. A qualitative research approach was adopted, employing multiple data collection techniques, including direct observation, in-depth interviews with community leaders and members, and literature review of related studies and historical accounts. The findings indicate that, despite increasing pressures from modernization, urban expansion, and external cultural influences, these communities continue to implement local wisdom in managing and protecting their natural environment and resources. This includes sustainable harvesting practices, customary rules for resource allocation, seasonal restrictions to allow ecosystem regeneration, and culturally embedded conservation rituals. The endurance of these practices is supported by the functioning of customary institutions, strong kinship ties, community protocols, and collective decision-making mechanisms that integrate environmental considerations. In conclusion, the study demonstrates that the environmental stewardship, resource management practices, and cultural identity of these three customary communities remain actively upheld. This resilience underscores the critical importance of safeguarding indigenous knowledge systems as a foundation for environmental sustainability and cultural preservation in the face of contemporary socio-economic change.

This study aimed to explore the impact of classical piano music on emotional responses among professional pianists compared to non-professionals. The piano, known for its extensive pitch range and dynamic versatility, serves as a pivotal instrument in both classical and popular music. Previous research has examined how music influences individual’s styles and behaviors. In our investigation, we analyzed electroencephalogram (EEG) signals to assess emotional responses in both groups, employing coherence measures. Listening tests were conducted to evaluate the effects of pitch and dynamics on emotional characteristics. Findings revealed that all ten emotional categories were significantly influenced by variations in pitch and dynamics. Specifically, emotions such as Happy, Romantic, Comic, Calm, Mysterious, and Shy generally increased with pitch, though a decline was observed at the highest pitches. Conversely, Heroic, Angry, and Sad emotions tended to decrease with rising pitch levels, while Scary emotions were pronounced at extreme low and high pitches. Regarding dynamics, emotions like Heroic, Comic, Angry, and Scary were more intense with loud notes, whereas Romantic, Calm, Mysterious, Shy, and Sad emotions were enhanced with softer notes. Notably, the emotion Happy showed no sensitivity to dynamic changes. These results provide valuable insights into the quantification of emotional characteristics associated with piano music.

This study aims to analyze the impact of internal and external factors on low student learning outcomes in Pancasila Education subjects in elementary schools. Pancasila education plays an important role in shaping the nation's personality and teaching students their duties and rights in the context of Indonesian society. However, low learning outcomes in this subject indicate a problem that needs to be solved. This research applied the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method to synthesize, evaluate and integrate information from previous studies. The data is analyzed with a content analysis approach. This research reveals that low student learning outcomes depend on internal and external influences. The most dominant internal factor is learning motivation, where students who are less motivated tend not to be able to follow learning optimally. In addition, differences in learning styles between students also affect the way they understand the material. On the external side, the use of conventional and less interesting learning media and the limited learning facilities available are important factors that affect students' low learning outcomes. Therefore, in order to improve learning outcomes of Pancasila Education in elementary schools, it is necessary to increase learning motivation, adjust learning styles, and utilize more interesting and supportive learning media and facilities

This study examines the relationship between cultural heritage and syntactic evolution in multilingual societies, focusing on cross-generational language transmission. Employing a mixed-methods approach, it analyzes linguistic practices, cultural narratives, and syntactic patterns across three generational cohorts in five distinct multilingual communities. Findings reveal significant generational shifts, with elders preserving traditional syntax linked to cultural rituals, while younger cohorts exhibit syntactic simplifications and hybrid constructions influenced by dominant languages. Statistical analyses underscore the role of cultural practices in shaping linguistic patterns, highlighting the dynamic interplay between heritage preservation and linguistic innovation in contexts of societal bilingualism and intercultural interaction. The research demonstrates that syntactic changes correlate strongly with the frequency and depth of cultural engagement, with participants who actively participate in traditional practices showing greater retention of heritage language syntactic features. Furthermore, we identify specific linguistic mechanisms through which cultural transmission influences syntactic maintenance and innovation, including ritualized speech patterns, narrative structures, and metaphorical expressions embedded in cultural practices. This study contributes to theoretical understandings of language change by proposing a cultural-syntactic framework that helps explain the variable trajectories of heritage languages in diverse multilingual contexts.

Tax aggressiveness refers to corporate actions aimed at reducing taxable income through tax planning strategies. This study aims to provide empirical evidence regarding the effect of profitability and liquidity on tax aggressiveness, with corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosure as a moderating variable. This research is based on agency theory and focuses on manufacturing companies in the food and beverage sub-sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2020 to 2022. The study sample consists of 87 companies, selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research employs Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) to analyze the data. The findings indicate that profitability significantly influences tax aggressiveness, while liquidity does not. Additionally, CSR does not moderate the relationship between profitability and tax aggressiveness, nor does it moderate the effect of liquidity on tax aggressiveness. The theoretical implication of this research supports and expands the understanding of agency theory in tax-related decision-making. The practical implication suggests that highly profitable companies should avoid engaging in tax aggressiveness, as it may damage their corporate image. Moreover, fair tax policy implementation and enhanced government supervision are necessary to minimize tax avoidance practices
