This study explores the dual impact of artisanal gold mining on economic livelihood and environmental sustainability in Tedeboe Village, Rampi District, North Luwu Regency. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were gathered through in-depth interviews with four key informants—including the village head and three local miners—and through direct field observation. Data were analyzed using Creswell’s qualitative analysis framework, encompassing coding and thematic development to capture nuanced insights. The findings indicate that artisanal gold mining has significantly improved household income, especially in meeting basic needs and funding education. However, the sector’s informal nature and high dependency expose the community to economic volatility. Moreover, despite limited use of chemicals, awareness of mercury’s environmental and health risks is rising among miners. Environmental degradation, particularly soil and water pollution, alongside potential respiratory hazards, emerges as a critical concern. The study underscores the urgent need for sustainable mining practices, stronger local regulation, and capacity-building through education and economic diversification. These findings advocate for a balanced approach to rural development—one that harmonizes economic benefits with ecological resilience and community well-being.

The use of methods in this research is descriptive qualitative research with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. In this study, it was found that the behavior of Pertamini retail gasoline traders after the establishment of a gas station in Umbulan Village is more dominantly influenced by external factors from the surrounding environment or market conditions such as the gas station's operating hours, the shift of customers to the gas station, and the proximity to the gas station in Umbulan Village. Thus, the Pertamini retail gasoline traders demonstrate resilience by adapting to market changes and remaining focused on their main objectives, as reflected in their commitment to keep their business open every day despite having few customers. Traders also build close relationships with local customers and suppliers, which are not only based on economic transactions but also on social relations. Although there are disputes between the retail gasoline traders and the Umbulan Village gas station, the traders strive to maintain good relationships. Then, the traders maintain their relationship patterns through good communication and close social interactions, which highlight the importance of social norms in maintaining harmonious relationships. By implementing adaptation strategies, achieving goals, integration, and maintaining good relationship patterns, they strive to survive in the increasingly fierce competition.

Indonesia is one of the countries with the highest levels of biodiversity in the world and possesses vast tropical forest areas that play a crucial role in maintaining the stability of global ecosystems. However, in recent decades, Indonesia’s forests have faced significant pressures due to deforestation and environmental degradation, which have broad impacts on ecological functions, climate balance, and the socio-economic lives of communities. This study aims to examine the role of biodiversity and ecological adaptation mechanisms in maintaining the stability of Indonesia’s forest ecosystems through a literature review approach. The findings show that deforestation directly affects biodiversity decline, habitat fragmentation, disruption of hydrological systems, increased erosion, and carbon emissions. Additionally, illegal activities such as logging and mining exacerbate environmental degradation. Biodiversity is proven to be an important factor in enhancing ecosystem resilience to disturbances, including climate change. Adaptation mechanisms such as the presence of bioindicator species, the formation of ecological corridors, and community participation in conservation can strengthen ecological resilience. Rehabilitation of degraded areas and the implementation of sustainable governance policies are necessary to restore the ecological functions of forests. This study emphasizes the importance of a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach in conservation strategies, supported by strong scientific, social, and institutional frameworks to ensure the sustainability of Indonesia’s forest ecosystems in the future.

The absence of a father figure (fatherlessness) can have significant impacts on an individual's psychological and social well-being, particularly among university students who are navigating the critical phase of identity formation. This study aims to explore the meaning of father loss in students by comparing experiences of losing a father due to divorce and death. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, six participants who had experienced fatherlessness were interviewed in depth. The results show that the loss of a father due to death is generally perceived as a permanent and irreplaceable loss, evoking deep sadness. In contrast, father loss due to divorce is often associated with emotional conflict, feelings of abandonment, and unresolved grief (ambiguous loss). The psychological impacts include emotional disturbances, social difficulties, and low self-confidence. Students employed various coping strategies such as seeking social support and engaging in academic or productive activities. In conclusion, the study highlights that the meaning of father loss varies depending on its cause, but both types have significant negative effects on students' psychological well-being. Therefore, strong emotional and social support is essential to help fatherless students adapt and build resilience in facing such loss.

The rise in sea levels caused by climate change has compelled island nations such as Kiribati to implement strategic policies, including climate adaptation, to address its impacts. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with an analytical framework grounded in the theories of human security and ecofeminism to assess the effects of climate change adaptation strategies on women in Kiribati. Climate change has affected every aspect of human security—from economic conditions to personal safety—posing layered and disproportionate challenges for women, who often bear primary responsibility within the household. The study finds that women are not merely victims but also agents of change and drivers of climate adaptation through advocacy rooted in their lived experiences and environmental knowledge. This research underscores the importance of inclusive, participatory, and gender-just adaptation policies. Only through such approaches can climate crisis responses foster truly sustainable resilience across all sectors of society.
