In multilingual English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms, students often draw on multiple linguistic resources to support comprehension and interaction during collaborative learning activities. However, translanguaging practices within structured cooperative learning techniques, such as the Jigsaw method, remain underexplored in Indonesian higher education contexts. This study investigates how students employ translanguaging during Jigsaw-based collaborative activities and how they perceive its role in supporting their participation and understanding in an Indonesian EFL classroom. The study adopted a qualitative classroom-based case study design conducted at a pesantren-based university in East Java, Indonesia. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five fifth-semester students who participated in Jigsaw learning activities across different English-related courses. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns in students’ language practices and perceptions. The findings reveal that translanguaging played several important roles in facilitating collaborative learning. First, students used translanguaging to clarify complex concepts and ensure shared understanding during group discussions. Second, translanguaging functioned as peer scaffolding, enabling students to assist classmates by explaining ideas and translating unfamiliar terms. Third, the flexible use of multiple languages helped reduce anxiety and encouraged more active participation in group interaction. Finally, students expressed positive perceptions toward translanguaging, viewing it as a helpful strategy that supported comprehension while still maintaining the importance of English for academic communication. These findings suggest that integrating translanguaging into cooperative learning strategies such as the Jigsaw technique can create more inclusive and interactive learning environments in multilingual EFL classrooms.

This study aims to analyze the strategies employed by ustadz and ustadzah at Pondok Pesantren Tarbiyatul Islam (PPTI) Al-Falah in maintaining family resilience. The family, as the smallest unit in society, plays a crucial role in shaping individuals’ character, morality, and spirituality, particularly for those living in a pesantren environment characterized by intensive religious and educational activities. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through interviews and observations involving married ustadz and ustadzah who reside within the pesantren environment. The results indicate that in building a household, conflicts are inevitable. Due to teaching responsibilities that often extend into the night, miscommunication may occur and potentially lead to domestic issues. Therefore, family resilience among ustadz and ustadzah at PPTI Al-Falah is developed through five main strategies: (1) spiritual strategies, (2) communicative strategies, (3) educational strategies, (4) social and environmental strategies, and (5) economic and time management strategies.

The implementation of smoking prohibition policies in Islamic boarding schools continues to depend largely on manual monitoring methods, which often face challenges related to consistency and supervision range. This study aims to design an Internet of Things (IoT)-based cigarette smoke detection system as an alternative monitoring approach that is more effective, measurable, and sustainable. The system design combines an MQ-2 gas sensor with a NodeMCU ESP8266 microcontroller programmed through the Arduino IDE platform. When smoke levels detected by the sensor exceed the predetermined limit, the system automatically triggers a buzzer and LED as warning indicators while simultaneously sending monitoring data to cloud-based platforms such as Firebase or ThingSpeak for real-time observation through web interfaces. The research outputs include a comprehensive system design consisting of system architecture, electronic circuit schematics, flowcharts, and pseudocode that are systematically arranged to support future prototype development and implementation. Through this design, the proposed system is expected to provide an initial technological solution that can enhance the effectiveness of monitoring and enforcing smoke-free regulations within Islamic boarding school environments.

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of implementing the Al Miftah method with a behavioristic approach in improving the ability of students at the Raudlatul Ulum II Islamic Boarding School to read classical Islamic texts. This method provides stimuli in the form of repetitive exercises and positive reinforcement that actively motivate students to learn nahwu and sharaf rules, the main foundations in learning classical Arabic texts. The results of observations and interviews show significant changes in the students' learning behavior; from being passive to being more active, motivated, and able to understand the learning material better. The use of innovative media such as nadhom songs strengthens the memorization of Arabic language rules in a rhythmic and enjoyable way. The role of teachers as facilitators and evaluators is also very important in guiding and motivating students individually. Evaluation of students' abilities through classical Islamic texts reading tests shows that this method is effective in improving reading performance and understanding of classical Islamic texts. Some limitations, such as limited learning time and the number of certified teachers, are concerns for future development.

The Qiroati method is an instructional approach to reading the Qur’an that emphasizes direct practice of tartil recitation in accordance with the rules of tajwid. This method is practical, systematic, and implemented gradually, meaning that learners are not allowed to proceed to the next level before achieving fluency at the current stage. One of the main challenges in learning to read and memorize the Qur’an is the limited use of structured teaching methods, as some teachers still rely primarily on personal experience and conventional reading approaches. This condition contributes to students’ lack of fluency in reading and memorizing the Qur’an, as well as decreased learning motivation due to monotonous and less effective instructional practices. This study aims to examine the implementation of the Qiroati method in improving students’ Qur’anic reading ability within the Tahfidzul Qur’an program at SMP Daruttaqwa Full Day School. The findings are expected to provide useful insights for educators and contribute to academic knowledge. This research employs a field research design with a descriptive qualitative approach, focusing on describing the application of the Qiroati method in enhancing students’ reading ability in relation to Qur’an memorization. Data were collected through interviews, tests, and documentation, while data analysis involved data collection, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the implementation of the Qiroati method effectively improves students’ ability to read the Qur’an in the Tahfidzul Qur’an program. This is evidenced by the improvement in students’ reading scores compared to their previous performance. In practice, the method involves teachers modeling correct recitation, followed by students reading collectively. Therefore, the Qiroati method not only enhances students’ accuracy in reading the Qur’an but also fosters a more engaging and effective learning environment.

This study is motivated by the importance of the relationship between reading and speaking skills in Arabic language learning. Reading, as a receptive skill, plays a significant role in enriching vocabulary, understanding language structures, and constructing meaning, which in turn affects speaking ability as a productive skill. At Baitul Hidayah Islamic Boarding School in Bandung, variations were observed in students’ abilities in reading Arabic texts and speaking Arabic, raising questions about the existence of a relationship between these two skills. This study aims to determine whether there is an influence of Arabic reading skills on Arabic speaking skills among fifth-grade students (Class V-A) in the 2024/2025 academic year. This research employs a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The subjects of the study consisted of all 28 students in Class V-A, selected using a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected through reading skill tests and speaking skill tests, and subsequently analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Spearman rank correlation test. The results indicate a significant relationship with a strong level of correlation between Arabic reading skills and Arabic speaking skills. This is evidenced by the correlation coefficient (r-value) of 0.824, which is higher than the r-table value at a 5% significance level (0.374). It is recommended that the development of reading skills be more systematically integrated with speaking practice. Nahwu (Arabic grammar) is a fundamental discipline in learning the Arabic language, helping to prevent errors in speech and serving as a primary key to clearly understanding Islamic legal texts. However, in practice, the teaching of Nahwu often faces complex challenges, particularly the lack of active participation among female students and their uneven mastery of the subject. Therefore, this study aims to explore the problems in teaching Nahwu at Al-Madani Islamic Boarding School in Cikalong and to identify the factors causing these issues. This study aims to: (1) reveal the problems faced by second-grade female students of KMI in learning Nahwu at Al-Madani Islamic Boarding School in Cikalong, and (2) identify the contributing factors influencing the emergence of these problems. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach. The researcher used three data collection techniques: classroom observation, in-depth interviews with the Nahwu teacher, and questionnaires distributed to the students. For data analysis, the researcher applied the Miles and Huberman model, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. To ensure data validity, data triangulation techniques were used. The results of the study indicate that the problems are divided into two main aspects: (1) learning-related problems, including the gap between memorization of grammatical rules and their application (i‘rab), high levels of academic anxiety, and decreased classroom concentration; and (2) contributing factors, including methodological factors, linguistic-psychological factors, and classroom management factors. The researcher suggests that teachers adopt more interactive teaching methods and media, as well as innovative visual tools to reduce the abstract nature of Nahwu materials and enhance students’ functional understanding. Additionally, activating “Halaqah Nahwiyyah” (grammar study circles) in dormitories is recommended to overcome psychological barriers and improve students’ linguistic confidence.

Abstract: The digital era demands that every individual possess visual literacy competencies, but in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), access to technology is often limited to maintain focus on worship. The main problem at the Salafiyah Al-Furqon Islamic Boarding School in Sawangan, Magelang Regency, is the digital skills gap among 12th-grade students. This is caused by the boarding school's policy of only allowing mobile phone use during semester breaks, leaving students lacking practical multimedia skills prior to graduation. This community service activity aims to provide a solution through basic photography and videography training as a soft skill for alumni independence. The method used is a workshop that combines theoretical explanations and direct practice (experiential learning). The results of this activity show a significant increase in students' technical competency; participants are able to operate smartphone cameras with stable shooting techniques, understand the principles of visual composition (such as the rule of thirds and leading lines), and are able to perform basic video editing using mobile-based software applications. Through this training, Islamic boarding school graduates are expected to become individuals who are adaptive to technological developments and able to utilize visual media as a means of creative economics and digital da'wah after graduation.

The research in this paper aims to explore the concepts and principles of the educational environment from the perspective of the Qur'an and Hadith using a tafsir tarbawi (educational exegesis) approach. The developmental dynamics of human potential, both spiritual and intellectual, do not occur in a vacuum but are heavily influenced by environmental factors (educational ecology). By employing textual, thematic, and contextual analysis methods on several key verses such as QS. Al-Alaq: 1-5, QS. At-Tahrim: 6, QS. Luqman: 13-19, QS. Al-Kahfi: 66-70, and QS. Al-Hujurat: 13 this study maps the Islamic educational ecosystem into several primary domains. The results of the analysis indicate that the Qur'an constructs the educational environment as an integrative macro-systemic unity, comprising the domestic family environment (as a fortress for moral and creedal protection), the formal academic school/pesantren environment (as a space for teacher-student etiquette and ethics), and the socio-communal environment (as an arena for egalitarian multicultural inclusivity). Furthermore, this study formulates five fundamental paradigms of Islamic educational ecology: the integralistic, tawhid (monotheistic), humanistic-egalitarian, gradual-systemic, and transformational-emancipatory paradigms. This theoretical reconstruction corrects Western secular empiricism while simultaneously providing a holistic foundation for educators in managing an educational environment that aligns with divine revelation values and the demands of modern civilization.

This study aims to analyze the exemplary values of ta’dib and Sufistic practices of Kiai Hasan Sepuh in shaping the spirituality and noble character of santri at Pondok Pesantren Zainul Hasan Genggong. This research employed a qualitative approach with a figure study within a case study framework. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive-analytical techniques. The findings indicate that the values of ta’dib are reflected in discipline, respect for knowledge, and ethical interaction, while Sufistic values are manifested through sincerity (ikhlāṣ), patience (ṣabr), humility (tawāḍu‘), and simplicity. The internalization process of these values occurs through habituation, the role of the kiai’s successors, and spiritual practices rooted in pesantren traditions. Supporting factors include the religious culture of the pesantren and the emotional closeness between kiai and santri, whereas modernization and social media become inhibiting factors in the transmission of values. This study concludes that the integration of ta’dib and Sufistic values through the exemplary legacy of Kiai Hasan Sepuh contributes significantly to shaping santri spirituality and moral character, as well as offering a relevant model for Islamic character education in the contemporary era.
