This study is motivated by the challenge of economic independence for Islamic boarding schools amid the transformation of their role in the modern era. Islamic boarding schools no longer function solely as traditional Islamic educational institutions, but have also developed as centers for economic and social empowerment of the community. However, dependence on uncertain external funding sources has prompted the need to develop a sustainable economic ecosystem for Islamic boarding schools in order to strengthen the independence of these institutions. This study aims to explore the development of Islamic boarding school financing management based on economic independence. This study uses a qualitative approach, with an exploratory sequential mixed methods design. The research method uses Research and Development (R&D) with the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation (ADDIE) development model. The results of the study found that: 1) Financial management in two Islamic boarding schools has been carried out systematically through planning, funding diversification, governance, and continuous evaluation with a contextual approach. 2) The development of financial management has shifted from an administrative function to an economic independence strategy based on the integration of modern governance and Islamic boarding school values.

Public relations (PR) plays a vital role in building and maintaining the trust of students’ parents toward Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). This trust serves as an essential foundation for the continuity of education and for fostering a harmonious relationship between the Ma’had and the parents. This study aims to analyze the communication strategies implemented by the Public Relations division of Ma’had Tahfidz Al-Qur’an (Putri) at Pondok Pesantren Al-Amien Prenduan Sumenep in strengthening parents’ trust, to understand their responses to these strategies, and to explore stakeholders’ expectations regarding the management of public relations within the institution. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis. The findings indicate that the PR strategies were carried out through systematic stages of planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement. Generally, parents expressed satisfaction with the transparency of information, the speed of communication services, and their increased participation in educational activities. However, several aspects still need improvement, particularly in maintaining consistency in financial information delivery and modernizing communication systems through technology. Overall, the PR strategies at Ma’had Tahfidz Al-Qur’an (Putri) have been effective in strengthening parents’ trust and enhancing the institution’s positive image. To further improve the role of PR in the future, it is necessary to enhance staff professionalism, innovate in communication technology, and strengthen collaboration with various stakeholders.

Education plays a crucial role in shaping the personality, morals, and spiritual values of students. In the Islamic perspective, education is not solely focused on the mastery of knowledge but also includes the cultivation of noble character, the strengthening of faith, and the enhancement of religiosity as a form of devotion to Allah Swt. Islamic boarding schools (pondok pesantren), as traditional Islamic educational institutions, have a strategic role in instilling these values through religious activities, the teaching of classical Islamic texts (kitab kuning), and the habituation of virtuous behavior. Pesantren serve not only as centers of learning but also as institutions for character formation and spiritual development. However, the forces of globalization and modernization bring new challenges in the form of cultural, technological, and informational influences that often conflict with Islamic values. Therefore, pesantren are required to develop adaptive, innovative, and relevant educational strategies that align with contemporary needs without losing their Islamic identity. One effective approach is the implementation of Islamic counseling, a process of psychological and spiritual guidance grounded in the Qur’an and Sunnah. Through this counseling, students are expected to strengthen their faith, enhance their religiosity, and develop moral resilience in facing the dynamics of modern life based on strong Islamic values.

Modern Islamic boarding schools not only focus on religious education, but are also required to improve the academic quality of students, including in mathematics subjects which are often challenging due to differences in students' learning styles, motivations, and abilities. This study aims to design and implement a Decision Support Sistem (DSS) based on the VIKOR method to analyze students' mathematical understanding and provide recommendations for more adaptive learning strategies. The study uses a descriptive quantitative approach with data obtained through documentation of students' grades, as well as interviews with mathematics teachers. The VIKOR method is used to evaluate students' understanding based on five main criteria, namely exam scores, report card scores, attendance, attitudes and behavior, and skills, through a process of normalization, weighting, calculation of S, R, and Q scores, and ranking students. The results show that there are five students with the lowest level of mathematical understanding, namely A11, A4, A17, A1, and A12, who have the lowest VIKOR index scores. This low level of understanding is influenced by factors such as learning attitudes, attendance, report card scores, and skills, so they require further attention and guidance from teachers. The application of the VIKOR method in SPK has proven effective in optimizing the analysis of students' mathematics achievements and providing recommendations for more targeted personal learning strategies, thereby helping to improve the quality of education and maximize students' academic potential.

This study aims to analyze the effective role of the Al-Qurtuby Islamic Boarding School in shaping the character of students. As one of the oldest Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia, the Islamic boarding school holds a very strategic position in developing the morals and ethics of the younger generation, especially amidst the increasing moral crisis that is occurring in the modern era. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation so as to be able to describe the reality of the character formation of students in depth. The results show that the Al-Qurtuby Islamic Boarding School has three main functions: as a transmission of Islamic knowledge, a preserver of Islamic traditions, and a center for the development of prospective ulama (Islamic scholars). These three functions contribute significantly to fostering a character of peace, tolerance, independence, and a sense of responsibility in students. The character formation process is carried out through various methods, including the exemplary behavior of kyai (Islamic clerics) and ustaz (Islamic teachers), habituation in daily activities, and the provision of educational advice and sanctions. Supporting factors for the formation of students' character at this boarding school include the students' high internal motivation to learn, maintained discipline, and a conducive Islamic boarding school environment full of religious values. However, this study also identified inhibiting factors, such as student boredom due to busy schedules, limited facilities, and the challenge of adapting to changing times that demand innovation in teaching methods. The implications of this research are that it provides information for Islamic boarding school administrators in designing more effective strategies for developing character education, while also serving as a reference for other Islamic educational institutions wishing to adopt a similar approach. Thus, Islamic boarding schools remain relevant in producing a generation with noble character capable of facing future social and moral challenges.

Digital transformation in the world of education is a strategic step to improve efficiency and quality of services, including in terms of attendance recording. This study aims to examine the change in the manual attendance system to digital in an effort to improve the quality of learning documentation at PPTQ Al Huda. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through distributing questionnaires to teachers and academic staff. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of digital attendance has been significantly beneficial for the majority of respondents. This system is considered more practical, accurate, and efficient than manual methods. Digital attendance not only makes it easier to record student attendance, but also strengthens transparency, accountability, and supports data-based decision making. In addition, this system plays a role in improving student discipline and responsibility. Digital attendance has also been proven to reduce the practice of asking for attendance, minimize recording errors, and facilitate real-time data access by Islamic boarding school administrators. Ease of use and convenience of the system are also supporting factors for successful implementation. Moreover, the adoption of digital attendance encourages the development of a technology-based culture within the institution. It fosters digital literacy among educators and students, enhancing their adaptability to technology in daily academic routines. This transformation aligns with the broader educational goal of integrating technology to create a modern, effective, and sustainable learning environment. Therefore, the shift to a digital attendance system is not only a technical innovation but also a reflection of institutional commitment to continuous improvement and educational excellence. This innovation proves to be a relevant and strategic solution for strengthening educational administration in Islamic boarding schools.

This study is motivated by the need for an Islamic education model that can integrate religious values and intellectual intelligence amid the challenges of globalization and modernization in education. The pesantren system has excelled in shaping religious character through the instillation of values, role models, and spiritual life, while modern schools excel in developing critical thinking, scientific literacy, and adaptive skills in technology. This study aims to identify the main elements of religious and intellectual education, analyze the opportunities for synthesis between the two, and evaluate the supporting factors and obstacles in their application in the context of Indonesian education. The research method used was library research with a descriptive qualitative approach through content analysis of various scientific sources, journals, books, and educational policy documents from 2020 to 2025. The results of the study show that the synthesis of Islamic boarding schools and modern schools can be realized through the integration of curriculum, learning methods, and institutional culture that balances the spiritual and intellectual dimensions of students. This integrative education model emphasizes the importance of teachers with dual competencies, institutional management support, and adaptive curriculum policies. The implications of this study are theoretical and practical: theoretically, it enriches the concept of holistic Islamic character education, while practically, it provides direction for Islamic educational institutions to develop learning models that produce graduates who are faithful, knowledgeable, and have noble character.

This article discusses the dynamics of Islamic education during the Sultanate of Banten, an Islamic kingdom that developed since the 16th century and became one of the centers of Islamic civilization in the archipelago. Islamic education in Banten not only shapes the Islamic identity of the community, but also strengthens morality, social solidarity, and cultural resilience. Islamic boarding schools are the main pillars of education that integrate the teaching of religious science, character education, and socio-religious practices. The role of pesantren expands, not only as a learning center, but also as a da'wah institution that instills the values of independence, justice, and brotherhood in the midst of a multicultural society. Great scholars such as Sheikh Nawawi al-Bantani and Sheikh Yusuf al-Makassari have an important role in strengthening the scientific network between Banten, the Middle East, and the Islamic world. Their profound works in the fields of jurisprudence, Sufism, and morals had a great influence on the development of Islamic thought in Southeast Asia. The pesantren curriculum that focuses on the yellow book, with the teaching methods of sorogan, bandongan, and wetonan, produces students who are not only knowledgeable, but also disciplined, moral, and sensitive to social problems. The Dutch colonial period brought severe challenges with secular policies and restrictions on Islamic education. However, pesantren still exist as spiritual and intellectual fortresses. This success is supported by the ability of pesantren to develop economic independence and expand scientific networks through the overseas migration of students to various Islamic study centers abroad. Until now, Banten's Islamic education heritage has transformed into a modern Islamic boarding school that is able to combine classical traditions with technology and global insights. This study confirms that traditional Islamic education in Banten has a strategic role in shaping the social, spiritual, and identity structure of the Muslim community, which persists across generations.

Islam entered Malaysia through trade, especially by Arab, Indian and Chinese traders since the 7th century, but wider spread occurred in the 13th century through the Kingdoms of Samudera Pasai and Melaka. The Islamization process became stronger with the role of the Malay kingdoms in making Islam the official religion, establishing a sharia-based government system, and introducing Jawi writing as the main medium in education and administration. The development of Islamic education in Malaysia began with the Islamic boarding school and madrasa system which emphasized traditional religious teachings. In the colonial era, Islamic education underwent changes with the establishment of folk religious schools and modern madrasas which combined religious and academic curricula. After independence, the Malaysian government introduced a more formal Islamic education system through national religious schools, tahfiz institutions, and Islamic universities. This development was strengthened by the introduction of JAKIM, the Malaysian Ministry of Education, as well as an educational foundation that supports the integration of Islamic values in the national education system. Today, Islamic education in Malaysia continues to develop through technology and innovation, ensuring it is relevant in the modern world while preserving Islamic scientific traditions.

Marriage in Islam is a sacred institution aimed at forming a family that embodies sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah, while also serving as a legitimate and responsible means to fulfill biological needs. In the socio-religious context, religious figures such as kyai play a significant role, particularly in guiding the community to maintain household harmony. This study explores the role of kyai in promoting household harmony among Islamic boarding school alumni in Gading District, an area where the spiritual bond between kyai and santri remains strong. These alumni often face various challenges in their domestic lives, including differences in perspectives with their spouses and shifts in social values in the modern era. In such circumstances, kyai serve as spiritual advisors, counselors, and mediators who offer solutions based on Islamic values and local wisdom. This research aims to identify the types of guidance provided by kyai, as well as the supporting factors and obstacles they encounter in fulfilling their roles. The findings are expected to enrich scholarly discourse in the field of socio-religious studies and offer practical insights for religious leaders to strengthen their roles as agents of family harmony amid the complexities of modernization.

This study examines interfaith marriage and its impact on family economic rights from the perspectives of Islamic law and positive law in Indonesia, with a case focus on Sumedang Regency. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research involved semi-structured interviews with both traditional and modern Islamic scholars, along with an analysis of religious texts and statutory regulations. The findings reveal that the majority of scholars reject interfaith marriage based on Sharia principles and Article 2(1) of Law No. 1 of 1974 on Marriage. Nevertheless, some couples pursue such unions through administrative religious conversion or overseas ceremonies to obtain legal recognition. These practices often result in legal ambiguity regarding economic rights within the family—such as inheritance, joint property, and financial support—and may lead to familial disputes. Additional social consequences include identity confusion among children, community stigma, and potential conflicts within extended families. The study underscores the strategic role of institutions like Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) and the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) in providing legal education and advocates the need for a responsive civil registration mechanism that acknowledges interfaith marriages while respecting Islamic legal principles. A contextual approach is proposed to bridge the tension between religious norms, legal certainty, and the protection of family economic rights.

Modernization of education in Islamic boarding schools is an important need to maintain the relevance of learning in the digital era. Salafiyah Islamic boarding schools, which are synonymous with the traditional approach through the study of the Yellow Book, face the challenge of adapting technological developments without losing their scientific character. This research aims to develop a model of curriculum modernization through the integration of deep learning-based digital technology  to improve the effectiveness of learning and the quality of academic evaluation. The methods used include literature studies, observation of the learning process, and trial implementation of digital learning tools equipped with deep learning algorithms  for student ability analysis. The results of the study show that the application of deep learning technology  is able to speed up the competency mapping process, provide automatic feedback on reading and comprehension of classical texts, and assist teachers in monitoring the development of students more accurately. This integration also increases interest in learning and strengthens the mula curriculum system without shifting the traditional values of the Islamic boarding school. Thus, technology-based modernization can be a strategic solution to bridge the classical approach and the needs of 21st century learning in Salafi Islamic boarding schools.

Madrasas and Islamic boarding schools are Islamic educational institutions that have a strategic role in shaping the character, morals, and competencies of students. In addition to carrying out the formal learning process, these two institutions are also centers for moral, spiritual, and social development. In their operations, madrasas and pesantren manage various administrative activities, such as student data collection, attendance recording, grade processing, teacher data management, lesson schedule preparation, and delivery of academic information to related parties. However, many institutions still use manual systems that rely on notebooks or separate applications that are not integrated. This condition poses a number of obstacles, including the high risk of recording errors, duplicate data that is difficult to track, the slow process of recapitulation of grades and attendance, and delays in the delivery of academic information. In addition, manual processes cause administrative management to be less efficient and prone to data loss. As the need for fast, accurate, and accurate information increases, technological solutions are needed that are able to integrate all administrative and academic processes in one centralized system. Web-based information systems are an effective alternative to improve work efficiency, minimize errors, and facilitate access to information for teachers, students, and guardians. With the implementation of a well-managed system, madrasas and Islamic boarding schools are expected to improve the quality of services and support a more modern, structured, and sustainable learning process.

The problem raised in this study is the renewal of the Islamic education system in Islamic boarding schools as an impact of modernization. Modernization not only brings positive but also negative impacts. Islamic boarding schools that were originally traditional salaf developed to overhaul their education system to meet the challenges of the times so that Islamic boarding schools emerged with khalaf or combined systems. This study aims to describe: 1) the concept of Islamic education in the Al-MuqriAssalafi Lil BanatIslamic boarding school and 2) the challenges faced by the Al-MuqriAssalafi Lil BanatPrenduan Islamic boarding school in facing the era of modernization.
