This study explores the transformation of Moksha Patam, a traditional Indian board game rooted in spiritual and moral education, into the globally commercialized game Snakes and Ladders. Originally designed to teach concepts like karma and moksha, the game was secularized during British colonialism and later commodified in the West, losing its original cultural and pedagogical meanings. Using a qualitative library research method, the paper analyzes historical texts, colonial records, and contemporary versions to examine how the game’s symbolism has evolved. Despite widespread homogenization, modern adaptations in countries like Indonesia, Pakistan, and Iran reflect local values and current social issues, indicating the game’s ongoing relevance and semiotic flexibility. Recent efforts by Indian educators and NGOs to reintroduce Moksha Patam into schools highlight a broader movement toward cultural reclamation and decolonized education. The study underscores the need to recognize and preserve indigenous knowledge systems in modern learning environments.

This study aims to examine the relevance of Islamic economic thought during the time of the Prophet Muhammad to contemporary economic challenges, such as wealth distribution inequality, ethical crisis, and free market dominance. With a qualitative-descriptive approach through a literature study of classical and contemporary literature, the analysis is carried out based on the maqashid al-shariah framework. The results show that the basic principles of the Prophet's economy, such as the prohibition of usury, distribution justice, protection of property rights, and ethics-based market regulation, remain relevant and applicable in today's global context. Economic instruments such as zakat, infaq and waqf have proven effective as a means of wealth distribution and social security. In addition, maqashid al-shariah plays an important role as a paradigm in evaluating modern economic policies so that they remain oriented towards social justice and sustainability. The conclusion of this study confirms that the Prophet's economic thought is not only historical and normative, but also has practical and strategic value in formulating an alternative economic system that is more humane, ethical, and sustainable.

This article examines the contributions of two major schools of Arabic grammar, the Basran and Kufan schools, to the development of the theory of ibdal (phonetic substitution) in the Arabic language. Using a historical and comparative approach, it traces the origins of the concept of ibdal in classical Arabic linguistic tradition and explores how leading grammarians from each school shaped distinct theoretical frameworks. The Basran school typically approached ibdal with a logical and systematic perspective, emphasizing phonetic patterns and structured rules of sound transformation. In contrast, the Kufan school adopted a more flexible stance, prioritizing the realities of spoken Arabic usage even if not always supported by formal phonetic justification. This study highlights not only the methodological differences between the two schools but also their long-lasting impact on the grammatical structure of Arabic. The discussion underlines the intellectual dynamics within Arabic grammar scholarship and encourages further exploration into how classical ibdal theories can inform modern linguistic analysis in Arabic studies.

This study analyzes the representation of psychological trauma and collective memory in the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori through the psychoanalytic approach of Sigmund Freud and Maurice Halbwachs’ theory of collective memory. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with content analysis techniques applied to the text. The findings reveal that the trauma experienced by the main character, Biru Laut, reflects internal conflicts among the id, ego, and superego, as well as the emergence of various defense mechanisms such as repression, sublimation, and acting out. Trauma is portrayed not only as an individual experience but also as a collective wound affecting families and communities, which manifests in symbolic actions like the Kamisan protest. The novel serves as a cathartic space and cultural archive that voices historical wounds while advocating for justice and social recovery. Thus, Laut Bercerita functions not only as a literary work but also as a reflective medium for understanding and preserving the nation's collective trauma.

This interpretation discusses Zephaniah 2:1-3 with the aim of revealing the main message of the passage and how its meaning can be applied to contemporary life. This verse contains God's invitation to His people to immediately gather and repent before His wrath comes. The method used in this interpretation is a historical and contextual approach, by tracing the background of Zephaniah's time, the meaning of key words in the text, and their relationship to modern life. The results of the interpretation show that Zephaniah invites the people to seek God, live a life of justice, and be humble. This is not only a call for the Israelites at that time, but also a warning for modern humans who live in a situation of moral crisis, disaster, and social chaos. This verse invites everyone not to delay repentance, live righteously before God, and maintain good relations with others. The message is very relevant to modern life which often forgets spiritual values and social justice.

This study examines the contextual interpretation method developed by Abdullah Saeed, a progressive Muslim scholar who embraces a modern approach to understanding the Qur'an. This approach was created in response to textual interpretation methods in understanding the meaning of Qur'anic verses. Saeed emphasizes the importance of understanding revelation in its social and historical context so that Islamic teachings remain relevant to the times. One of the main concepts in this interpretation method is the hierarchy of values, which distinguishes between immutable and mutable teachings. This research uses a qualitative approach with a focus on literature, analyzing the works of Abdullah Saeed and previous research. The results of the research show that Saeed's Contextual Exegesis method is able to provide a more flexible understanding of the Qur'anic text, especially in verses related to law and ethics. One example of its application is the interpretation of the verse on the hijab in QS. Al-Ahzab: 59, where Saeed emphasizes that the command to wear the hijab has a specific social context that must be understood before being applied in modern life. This approach has broad implications for contemporary Islamic studies, particularly in addressing various social and legal challenges. However, this method has also faced criticism from conservative circles who argue that contextualization may obscure the original meaning of the Qur'an. Therefore, further research is still needed to explore its application in various aspects of Islamic life.

This research examines two major figures of modern Islamic reformism, Muhammad Abduh and Rashid Ridha, and how their thoughts shaped the face of Islamic education in Indonesia. Through qualitative research with a historical-comparative approach, We found that while both men shared a vision of reform, their views on modernity were very different. Abduh tended to be more open in accepting Western progress while still maintaining Islamic values, while Ridha was more cautious and prioritised purifying Islamic teachings from outside influences. These two schools of thought then coloured the journey of Indonesian Islamic organisations such as Muhammadiyah and Persis, which still feel their impact today. This research suggests the need for a synthesis of the two approaches in developing Islamic education that is authentic yet responsive to the challenges of the times.

Indonesia and Malaysia, as two Southeast Asian nations with shared historical and cultural ties, possess distinct legal sistem shaped by their colonial legacies. Indonesia adheres to a civil law sistem (derived from Dutch jurisprudence), while Malaysia follows a common law framework (inherited from British rule). Nevertheless, both jurisdictions incorporate Islamic law and customary legal traditions into their national legal sistem. This study conducts a comparative analysis of the legal sistem of both countries, with a particular focus on criminal law, civil law, and judicial structures, while also examining the challenges and opportunities for legal harmonization in the context of ASEAN integration. The research employs a normative juridical methodology, utilizing statutory and doctrinal legal analysis. Findings indicate that the primary distinctions lie in their legal sources (codification versus precedent) and the role of judicial institutions, while similarities emerge in their recognition of legal pluralism. Harmonization efforts face structural, substantive, and cultural challenges, yet potential exists in areas such as digital law, environmental law, and Islamic inheritance law.
