This research explores the use of conceptual metaphors in Taylor Swift’s album The Tortured Poets Department, focusing on how metaphorical language is used to express emotional depth and personal experiences. Applying Conceptual Metaphor Theory by Lakoff and Johnson (1980), the study classifies metaphorical expressions into three types: structural, orientational, and ontological. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected from the official lyrics of 16 songs in the album. The analysis shows that conceptual metaphors are employed consistently to depict abstract ideas such as heartbreak, vulnerability, self-perception, and emotional transformation. Structural metaphors are used to map personal experiences through familiar frameworks, orientational metaphors describe emotional states using spatial direction, and ontological metaphors give physical form to intangible feelings. Through metaphor, Swift constructs vivid imagery that allows listeners to relate to complex emotions in a concrete and meaningful way.

Language plays a vital role in expressing emotions, facilitating communication, and conveying a speaker’s stance through modality. This study analyzes the use of modality in a political speech by Donald Trump regarding a new U.S.-China trade deal, delivered on May 12, 2025. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, the research investigates how modality reflects Trump's intentions, beliefs, and authority. Data were collected through indirect observation of a YouTube video titled “President Trump touts new US-China trade deal: We Opened Up China”, followed by transcription, identification, and categorization of modality types based on Palmer's (2013) framework: epistemic, deontic, and dynamic modality. The findings reveal that Trump uses epistemic modality to express speculation, deontic modality to convey obligation and prohibition, and dynamic modality to demonstrate capability and initiative. These elements function strategically to shape his image as a decisive and persuasive leader. The study supports previous findings that modality serves as a rhetorical device in political discourse, contributing to influence and narrative construction.

This study explores how love metaphors are expressed in three selected songs: Guilty as Sin, The Alchemy, and But Daddy I Love Him, from Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department album. Language plays a crucial role in conveying abstract emotions like love, and metaphor is a powerful tool for articulating complex feelings in song lyrics. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach, the research analyzes the lyrics through Lakoff and Johnson’s conceptual metaphor theory, categorizing metaphors into structural, ontological, and orientational types. Data were collected by closely reading the lyrics and noting metaphorical expressions, which were then interpreted within their emotional and thematic contexts. The findings reveal that ontological and structural metaphors dominate, portraying love as poetic storytelling and an evolving emotional journey, while no orientational metaphors were identified. This study highlights how Taylor Swift employs metaphorical language to capture the multifaceted nature of love, heartbreak, and personal transformation, demonstrating the significant role of metaphor in shaping emotional meaning in contemporary popular music.

Competition among product brands is crucial since a strong brand would discourage customers from considering making a purchase. Consumer perception of a brand is shaped by their thoughts and emotions upon hearing or seeing its name. The process of identification will enable the brand to stand out from the competition and serve as the primary factor when consumers are making judgments about what to buy. Businesses must determine which aspects of brand equity affect consumers' confidence while making purchases. This study employed a quantitative descriptive research design. The purpose of this study was to ascertain the independent variable's value, whether it be one or multiple variables, without doing comparisons or drawing connections between them. Quantitative descriptive research uses data in the form of numerical results from measurements to characterize variables as they actually exist. Mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and stress continue to increase globally and are recognized as critical factors that influence social functioning, productivity, and overall quality of life. Conventional mental health services are often limited by barriers including high cost, geographical distance, and persistent stigma that discourage individuals from seeking timely help. The digital era provides an alternative through the integration of technology into mental health counseling, offering greater accessibility, flexibility, and anonymity. Nevertheless, a key limitation of many digital counseling platforms lies in their inability to fully capture and respond to the emotional nuances of users during interactions. This study aims to address that gap by developing a speech-based emotion detection framework designed to be integrated into digital counseling environments. The proposed methodology includes the collection and preprocessing of speech samples, feature extraction using acoustic parameters, and training machine learning models to classify emotions in real time. Experimental results demonstrate that this approach significantly improves the accuracy of emotion detection, enabling digital counseling systems to provide more adaptive and personalized support. Beyond counseling, the research highlights the broader applicability of speech emotion recognition in education, telemedicine, and interactive digital assistants, all of which benefit from improved sensitivity to human emotions. These findings underscore the potential of artificial intelligence to strengthen digital mental health interventions, ensuring services that are not only more efficient and inclusive but also capable of fostering long-term emotional well-being in diverse populations.

The Book of Psalms is an important part of the Old Testament worship and theology tradition, reflecting the dynamics of human emotions in their relationship with God. Psalms 146-150 specifically highlight aspects of prayer and praise as expressions of joyful and hopeful faith. This study aims to interpret theologically how these five psalms describe the emotional response of believers to the work and character of God. With an exegetical and biblical theological approach, this study finds that Psalms 146-150 form a climax in the structure of the Book of Psalms, emphasizing the supremacy of praise as the primary form of worship. In addition, this study highlights how the emotional aspects of these psalms function not only as a reflection of individual faith experiences but also as a collective appeal for the community of believers. Thus, Psalms 146-150 emphasize that prayer and praise are the primary means of expressing the relationship between humans and God, while inspiring a spiritual life centered on worship.

This study examines expressive speech acts in the comments section of One Direction’s YouTube video titled “10 Years of One Direction.” It aims to identify the types of expressive acts used, explore their communicative purposes, and determine which type is most frequently employed. The research uses Searle and Vanderveken’s (1985) classification—which includes acts such as thanking, apologizing, congratulating, praising, sorrowing, boasting, blaming, and greeting—and Leech’s (2014) categorization of speech act functions (competitive, convivial, collaborative, and conflictive). Using a descriptive qualitative approach supported by basic quantitative analysis, the study analyzes 70 selected comments from the video. Results show eight types of expressive speech acts: thanking, congratulating, praising, sorrowing, blaming, happiness, boasting, and regretting. These acts mostly serve convivial, collaborative, and conflictive functions. Notably, sorrowing was the most frequent, appearing in 28.57% of the comments, indicating a strong nostalgic and emotional response among fans. The findings highlight how digital fan communities use expressive language to share emotions and build collective memories.
