Sign language recognition is one of the areas of image recognition and image processing technology that is developing rapidly in human-computer interaction. This technology really helps the deaf and speech impaired in communicating with non-disabled people. This research aims to examine the optimization of an object tracking system in sign language using the Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and Kalman Filter by including the Region of Interest (ROI). The proposed system consists of three main components, namely hand detection, object extraction, and classification. Hand detection is done using the Kalman Filter to track hand movements accurately. Next, Region of Interest (ROI) features, such as shape, direction and movement features, are extracted from the detected part of the hand. These features are fed into a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) classifier, which can recognize sign language based on the extracted features. With the combination of GMM and Kalman Filter in this research, it can increase accuracy in object tracking, reduce interference from the background, and ensure the tracking focus remains on important objects. The dataset used is in the form os SIBI alphabet symbols, namely A-Z with the amount of data for each class, namely 620 images. Based on the research result, model testing using GMM, Kalman Filter and ROI produces higher accuracy of 99%, while model testing using GMM and ROI produces accuracy of 90%.

This article examines umpasa as the determinant of the validity of the Mangalahat Horbo ritual and as a vehicle for transmitting the cultural values of the Batak Toba people from an anthropolinguistic perspective. Mangalahat Horbo is a buffalo sacrifice ritual that functions simultaneously as a cosmological, political, and linguistic event. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using three theoretical frameworks: Dell Hymes' (1974) SPEAKING model to analyze the ritual as a speech event, Roland Barthes' (1968) semiotics to dissect the denotative and connotative meanings of umpasa, and Kluckhohn's (1953) theory of cultural values and Sibarani's (2014) local wisdom theory to identify embedded cultural values. The findings reveal that umpasa operates on three simultaneous layers of meaning: pragmatic-performative, social-hierarchical, and cosmological-ecological. Umpasa is not merely an aesthetic ornament but a constitutive element of the ritual that shapes the social and cosmological reality of the Bius community. Eight cultural values are identified: communicative courtesy, adat knowledge transmission, self-restraint, collective responsibility, cultural preservation, cosmological reciprocity, distributive justice, and ecological harmony. This study affirms the urgency of anthropolinguistic documentation of Mangalahat Horbo before the Parhata masters of umpasa diminish further.

This study aimsmto examineiin depthvthe perspective of information technology law and human rights on the phenomenon of political buzzers on social media within the context of digital development in the era of globalization. This research is motivated by the rapid advancement of information technology, which has brought significant changes in various aspects of society, including the political sphere that increasingly utilizes social media as a means of communication and information dissemination. The phenomenon of political buzzers has become a controversial issue, particularly during election periods, as it is often associated with the spread of inaccurate information, defamation, hate speech, and the manipulation of public opinion that may harm society and disrupt social stability. This study employs a normative legal research method using statutory and conceptual approaches. The results indicate that political buzzers generally operate under the justification of freedom of expression as part of human rights. However, such freedom is not absolute and must be limited to prevent violations of others' rights and to maintain public order. In this regard, information technology law in Indonesia, particularly through regulations governing digital activities, plays an important role in controlling deviant buzzer practices. Nevertheless, the absence of specific regulations explicitly governing political buzzers has resulted in less optimal law enforcement. Therefore, strengthening regulations and increasing public awareness in the wise use of social media are necessary to create a healthy, responsible, and sustainable digital ecosystem.

Digital transformation has brought significant changes to human life, including in the realms of law and the protection of human rights. The rapid development of information technology has introduced new challenges in the form of human rights violations in the digital space, such as privacy breaches, the spread of misinformation, hate speech, and the increasing prevalence of cybercrime. This phenomenon indicates that the digital sphere not only offers benefits but also poses serious risks to the protection of individual rights. This study aims to analyze the reconstruction of legal awareness in addressing these challenges through a human rights approach and the Islamic Sociological Jurisprudence Theory. The research employs a normative legal method with conceptual and sociological approaches, emphasizing the analysis of literature and applicable legal norms. The findings reveal that conventional legal approaches have not been fully capable of addressing the complexity of evolving digital issues. Therefore, an integration of human rights principles and a contextual Islamic legal approach through Islamic Sociological Jurisprudence is required. This approach highlights the importance of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, substantive justice, and legal awareness that is adaptive to social change. Thus, the reconstruction of legal awareness becomes a key element in establishing effective, just, and sustainable human rights protection in the digital era.

The development of a student's personality, particularly during classroom interaction, is heavily influenced by their level of self-confidence. A lack of self-assurance often leads to public speaking anxiety, which subsequently restricts student engagement and diminishes academic performance. This phenomenon is frequently identified among tenth-grade Vocational High School (SMK) students who are navigating a period of environmental transition. This research focuses on enhancing the self-confidence of Grade X SMK students struggling with speech-related anxiety through the implementation of group guidance services utilizing role-playing methods. The study follows a Guidance and Counseling Action Research (GCAR) design conducted over two cycles, consisting of preparatory, executive, monitoring, and evaluative phases. The participants were tenth-grade students with low self-confidence profiles as determined by questionnaires and field observations. Data were analyzed using a descriptive quantitative approach to compare performance levels before and after the intervention. The results demonstrate that group guidance integrated with role-playing is an effective strategy for optimizing student self-confidence, as shown by the consistent upward trend in scores throughout the cycles. These findings suggest that this technique serves as a strategic instrument for school counselors to mitigate social anxiety among students.

This study analyzes pragmatic phenomena in digital communication, particularly those related to speech acts and their impact on public perception in the controversial case of an ice cube seller accused without clear basis by the authorities. This study applies a qualitative approach with a pragmatic analysis method based on discourse analysis. Data sources were obtained from online media news, social media posts, and official statements circulating in the digital public space. The analysis techniques used include identifying types of speech acts, interpreting implied meanings based on context, and analyzing public responses. The results show that statements from the authorities contain implications that trigger negative views even though they are not supported by strong evidence. This results in perlocutionary effects in the form of social stigma, reputational damage, and psychological stress for the victim. Conversely, the victim's communication strategies, which include being polite, defensive, and informative, can build a positive image and attract public sympathy. Furthermore, social media plays a crucial role in accelerating the spread of meaning and strengthening the construction of opinions through mass support and criticism. This research makes a significant contribution to enriching the study of pragmatics in the context of digital communication and emphasizes the importance of language ethics, media literacy, and pragmatic awareness in creating responsible public communication.

This study investigates the use of derivational morphemes in David Goggins' motivational speech, “12 Minutes to Change Your Life,” featured on Huberman's podcast. Derivational morphemes, which create new words and alter grammatical categories, are essential in understanding language development and communication. Despite extensive research on derivational morphemes in various texts, there is limited analysis of their usage in motivational speeches. This study addresses this gap by analyzing Goggins' speech, focusing on identifying and classifying derivational morphemes. Using qualitative methods, the speech was transcribed, and words containing derivational morphemes were analyzed based on the theories of Fromkin, Rodman, and Hyams (2011). The findings reveal 23 instances of derivational morphemes, divided into class-changing and class-maintaining categories. Notable transformations include adjectives to adverbs, verbs to nouns, and adjectives to nouns, with the most frequent being adjectives to adverbs. The study provides insights into the function and impact of derivational morphemes in spoken motivational content, contributing to the broader understanding of morphology in language use.

Inflectional morphemes are of great importance in linguistic analysis, especially when applied to speech delivered in various contexts. We explore the complexity of inflectional morphemes through an analysis of Linda McMahon’s Speech script titled “Our Department’s Final Mission.” Inflectional morphemes are also known as grammatical morphemes, as their primary function is to provide grammatical information about a word without altering its core meaning or lexical category. These inflectional morphemes include possessive morphemes (-‘s/s’), plural morphemes (-s/es), third-person singular present morphemes (-s), past morphemes(-d/ed), present/progressive particles (-ing), past participle (-en), comparative particles (-er), and superlative particles (-est). Therefore, this study focuses on understanding the types of inflectional morphemes used in Linda McMahon’s speech script. The main theory of inflectional morphemes is based on an understanding of grammatical function, affixation processes, and categories in the language system. The researcher identified 7 categories of inflectional morphemes. The result showed that 99 inflectional morphemes were found in Linda McMahon’s speech script. There were 46 plural morphemes (-s), 26 present/progressive particle morphemes (-ing), 19 past tense morphemes (-ed), 4 possessive morphemes (-‘s/s’), 2 third-person singular present morphemes (-s),1 comparative morpheme (-er), and 1 superlative morpheme (-est). It can be conclude that the most dominant category in the analysis is the plural morpheme (-s) and the least dominant is the comparative (-er) and superlative (-est) morpheme. Its is hoped that this study can provide solutions in determining the types of inflectional morphemes in a speech script.

This study aims to analyze the communication process within the Suluk tradition in Kubu Gadang, West Payakumbuh, using Dell Hymes’ Dell Hymes Ethnography of Communication approach. This research employed a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach through observation and in-depth interviews involving five informants and one triangulator, consisting of mursyid, khalifah, and salik. The findings reveal that communication in the Suluk tradition is systematically regulated to maintain participants’ spiritual concentration during the worship process. Communication occurs through verbal forms, such as dzikir, tawajuh, and spiritual instructions delivered by the mursyid, as well as non-verbal symbols, including the use of khalwat isolation tents, tasbih, and stones as counting tools. In addition, strict norms such as limiting speech, eye contact, and social interaction function as important non-verbal communication elements. These communication patterns collectively support the spiritual objectives of Suluk, particularly in strengthening self-discipline, inner focus, and closeness to Allah.

This study examines the use of keigo (honorific speech) by the character Togo Nitta in the Japanese drama Ousama ni Sasagu Kusuriyubi. The research focuses on identifying the forms of keigo employed by the main character in his communicative interactions. The method applied is the observational note-taking technique, which involves carefully watching the drama, transcribing all utterances containing keigo and subsequently conducting a qualitative analysis. The data analyses employ Tsujimura’s (1991) framework of keigo, which classifies honorific expressions into three primary categories. These categories are sonkeigo (respectful language), kenjogo (humble language) and teineigo (polite language). The finding indicates that teineigo dominates Togo Nitta’s use of keigo. This form is consistently utilized to refine conversation and express politeness between the speaker and interlocutor, irrespective of relative social status. Specifically, the study identifies four lexemes realized in teineigo form and three lexemes in kenjogo form. The use of kenjogo generally occurs in contexts where Togo Nitta needs to humble himself or his in group (uchi) towards an interlocutor of higher status. These findings suggest that the character’s politeness and adapting to social norms across various situasions, as represented within the drama’s narrative.

This study examines the dynamics of public criticism of Shin Tae-yong's dismissal by PSSI as a phenomenon of digital communication that shows the tension between freedom of expression and the legal limits of hate speech. The background of this research stems from the intensity of netizens' reactions, which developed into collective moral pressure and had the potential to enter the realm of insults and hostility, as reflected in various comments, news reports, and verbal disputes involving public figures. This study aims to analyze how criticism, media framing, and netizen responses interact with the regulations of the ITE Law, particularly Article 28 paragraph (2), which is often used in reporting hate speech. The methods used are a normative juridical approach and case studies with document analysis, news reports, and academic literature techniques to identify patterns of digital expression and their legal relevance. The results of the study show that public criticism of Shin Tae-yong not only reflects performance evaluation, but also contains emotional, social identity, and moral dimensions that are reinforced by media framing and digital culture. The discussion confirms that the shift from criticism to hate speech occurs when public expression is not managed ethically, while law enforcement on hate speech articles still faces interpretation problems. In conclusion, this verbal dispute reflects the complexity of Indonesia's digital democracy and the urgency of legal reform

The rapid development of communication technology in the digital era has had a significant impact on people's interaction patterns. One of the important aspects in this case is its influence on communication behavior, both in social, economic, and political life. The Electronic Information and Transaction Law (UU ITE) which was passed in Indonesia in 2008, acts as a regulation to regulate the use of communication technology, especially in cyberspace, with the aim of protecting the public from misuse of technology such as defamation, fraud, and hate speech. This research aims to analyze how the influence of the ITE Law on changes in community interaction patterns in digital space, both positively and negatively. Research results show that although the ITE Law provides a clear legal framework, there are challenges in its implementation that have the potential to hinder freedom of opinion and change the way people interact online. On the other hand, this regulation also spurs the public to be more careful and responsible in communicating through digital platforms.

Workplace microaggressions represent subtle and ambiguous forms of interpersonal mistreatment that are frequently normalized in organizational interactions, yet may generate significant psychological consequences for employees. While research in industrial and organizational psychology has extensively examined related constructs such as workplace incivility and ostracism, the linguistic mechanisms through which microaggressions operate remain underexplored. This study aims to systematically review Indonesian-language journal articles published between 2015 and 2025 that address workplace microaggressions and related phenomena, by conceptualizing microaggressions as speech acts. Using a systematic literature review approach guided by the PRISMA 2020 framework, relevant peer-reviewed articles were identified, screened, and analyzed through thematic synthesis. The review focuses on three main aspects: linguistic forms of microaggressions, contexts in which they emerge, and their psychological consequences in formal organizational settings, including companies and educational institutions. The findings indicate that workplace microaggressions are predominantly realized through indirect and ambiguous communicative practices, such as dismissive remarks, stereotypical humor, and interactional exclusion, often occurring within hierarchical relationships and formal work situations. These communicative acts are consistently associated with negative psychological outcomes, including stress, emotional exhaustion, reduced wellbeing, and withdrawal-related work attitudes. By integrating industrial-organizational psychology with linguistic-pragmatic perspectives, this review highlights language as a central mechanism through which microaggressions produce psychological harm at work. The study contributes a conceptual synthesis that underscores the importance of addressing everyday communicative practices in organizational interventions aimed at fostering psychological safety and employee wellbeing.

This study examines junior high school students’ digital morality (digital akhlak) through an analysis of Islamic Education (PAI) textbooks, focusing on the prevention of ghibah, slander/misinformation, and hate speech. The study is grounded in the growing intensity of adolescents’ online interactions, which heightens ethical risks such as online backbiting, the spread of unverified information (hoax), and degrading expressions that may harm social cohesion. The study aims to describe how the textbook represents values and prohibitions related to these issues, to analyze instructional presentation (narratives, religious evidence, learning activities, and assessments), and to assess the alignment of textbook content with a digital morality framework that contextualizes Islamic moral values for online environments. Using a library research design and content analysis of the PAI textbook as the primary document, the discussion is strengthened by recent Indonesian journal literature on digital literacy, Islamic communication ethics, and moral education for digital natives. The findings indicate that the textbook provides a strong basis for preventing ghibah through clear definitions, scriptural reinforcement, and affective messages about safeguarding others’ dignity; it addresses slander/misinformation primarily through operational tabayyun skills, including source and content verification and contextual checking; meanwhile, the prevention of hate speech is present implicitly through prohibitions against insulting, mocking, and prejudging, yet requires more explicit enrichment via contextual cases and ethical response strategies for students as bystanders. Overall, the textbook has substantial potential to foster students’ digital morality when supported by consistent classroom habituation and contextual pedagogy.
