This study aims to analyze strategies for increasing reading interest in developing a literate generation among elementary school students and to identify factors influencing literacy culture within school and family environments. The phenomenon of low reading interest among elementary school students has become a significant concern because the rapid development of digital technology tends to shift students’ attention from reading activities to audiovisual entertainment. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using a case study method at SDN 1 Notoharjo. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and documentation studies. The participants consisted of one classroom teacher and four third-grade students of SDN 1 Notoharjo. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was tested using source triangulation and method triangulation. The findings revealed that literacy strengthening was implemented through morning reading activities, book discussions, the use of visual and digital media such as e-books, and the utilization of reading corners and school libraries. The study also found that students’ reading interest was influenced by the availability of reading materials, the comfort of literacy environments, family support, and the dominant use of gadgets for entertainment purposes. This study contributes scientifically by strengthening the concept of collaborative literacy involving schools, families, and digital technology in developing reading culture among elementary school students. The findings imply the need for more integrated, adaptive, and sustainable literacy programs to improve students’ reading interest in the digital era.

This community service program aims to develop a local wisdom-based literacy model as an effort to improve students’ reading interest at SD Negeri 025 Samarinda Utara. The low level of reading interest among elementary school students remains a challenge in the implementation of the School Literacy Movement initiated by the Kementerian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi. One of the contributing factors is the lack of contextual reading materials that are relevant to students’ socio-cultural environment. Therefore, integrating local wisdom into literacy activities is considered an innovative strategy to enhance students’ engagement in reading activities. The implementation method included needs analysis, the design of a literacy model, program implementation through storytelling of East Kalimantan folktales, the development of a culturally themed reading corner, and teacher mentoring in integrating literacy into classroom learning. Evaluation was conducted through observation of student participation, reading interest questionnaires, and reflective discussions with teachers. The results indicate an increase in students’ enthusiasm for reading activities, a higher frequency of classroom reading corner utilization, and improved understanding of local cultural values. The local wisdom-based literacy model proved effective in creating a contextual, engaging, and meaningful learning atmosphere. This program is expected to serve as a sustainable model for strengthening literacy culture in elementary schools.

This study aims to examine the relationship between reading interest and students' speaking skills at the elementary school level using a literature review approach. The background of this study focuses on the importance of reading interest as an element of speaking skills that need to be honed from an early age, and there is a strong assumption that reading interest has a major influence in improving these skills. The method applied is an analysis of five scientific articles found through a search using the keywords "speaking skills", "vocabulary", and "reading interest" on Google Scholar. The results of the study showed that all studies analyzed concluded that there was a significant and positive relationship between reading interest and speaking skills. Students who have a high interest in reading generally show better speaking skills thanks to their rich vocabulary, good sentence structure, and the ability to convey ideas regularly. These findings have important implications for teachers, curriculum developers, and parents to combine reading activities with speaking activities in the educational process. Increasing literacy culture from an early age has been shown to support the development of students' oral communication skills more effectively and sustainably.

Reading ability is a basic skill that plays a crucial role in the success of students' learning process. However, various studies indicate that the reading ability of junior high school students remains low. This study aims to analyze the reading ability of students at the UPT SMP Negeri 2 Mappakasunggu using Alfred Schutz's social phenomenology perspective. The research approach used was qualitative with descriptive methods. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation of students and teachers. The results indicate that students' low reading ability is not solely caused by cognitive factors but is also influenced by subjective meanings formed through students' social experiences. The lack of a literacy culture in the family and school environment results in reading not being perceived as an important or enjoyable activity. Furthermore, the dominant use of gadgets for entertainment creates habits that reduce students' interest and concentration in reading texts. From Alfred Schutz's social phenomenology perspective, these conditions are related to students' lifeworlds and stock of knowledge, which shape their perspectives and actions toward reading. This study concludes that improving students' reading ability requires a comprehensive approach, taking into account experiences, social interactions, and the formation of meaning in reading in students' daily lives.

This study aims to analyze the influence of the use of gadgets on the reading interest of students at SMAN 1 Tolitoli. The background of this research departs from the phenomenon of declining students' interest in reading in the digital era, where students spend more time using gadgets for entertainment such as social media, online games, and watching videos than reading books or lesson literature. The low number of visits to school libraries, which only increased before the exam, is a major indicator of the weakening of the literacy culture among students. This study uses a quantitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out by normality test, t-test, and determination coefficient (R²) to determine the magnitude of the influence of gadgets on reading interest. The results of the study show that there is a significant influence between the use of gadgets on students' reading interest. The tcalculated value of 4,028 > ttable 1,655 indicates that H₀ is rejected and Hₐ is accepted. The use of gadgets contributed 9.8% to the reading interest of students at SMAN 1 Tolitoli, while the rest was influenced by other factors such as family environment, learning motivation, and support for literacy facilities at school.

The low reading interest and literacy skills of elementary school children in Indonesia remain a problem that requires creative and sustainable solutions. Factors such as limited access to quality books, a lack of reading habits at home, and uninteresting learning approaches are often the causes of a weak literacy culture among students. To address this problem, the Student Community Service Program (KKN) of Sebelas Maret University students in Singodutan Village implemented an activity aimed at fostering a culture of literacy in children through a Reading Book Content-Based Project at SDN 3 Krisak. The concept of this activity integrates reading activities with the creation of creative projects that are appropriate to the content of the reading, so that students not only understand the text but are also able to process the information into real products. This study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological research type to understand students' experiences during the activity. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and literature review, which were then analyzed descriptively. Activities included selecting reading books appropriate to students' ability levels, shared reading, discussions about the reading content, and the creation of creative projects such as posters, picture stories, or artwork inspired by the reading material. The results of the activity showed an increase in student participation in reading activities, an increase in interest in books, and an improvement in their ability to process information into creative works. Furthermore, students demonstrated greater self-confidence when presenting their work to their classmates.

This community service activity was motivated by the need for an efficient and structured library management system at MI Hidayatul Ulum. Previously, book recording, borrowing, and reporting were done manually, creating administrative challenges and limiting access to information for students and teachers. To address these challenges, the community service team implemented a web-based library information system designed to simplify collection management, facilitate book searches, and expedite the borrowing and return process. The implementation method included partner needs analysis, system design and installation, training for staff and teachers, and evaluation of implementation results. The system was designed to be accessible through the school's local network with a simple and user-friendly interface. Training was provided to ensure the school was able to utilize and manage the system independently. The results showed that the implementation of this information system improved library management efficiency and expanded user access to information. Teachers could more easily monitor book collections, while students found it easier to search for and borrow books. Furthermore, the system accelerated administrative processes and reduced the risk of recording errors. Another positive impact was the growth of a technology-based literacy culture within the madrasah. With the availability of faster book search and borrowing services, students' interest in reading increased. This study examines the correlation between reading interest and writing ability of STIKOM Yos Sudarso Purwokerto students as an effort to understand the relationship between two basic literacy skills in the context of higher education. Low interest in reading is often blamed as one of the causes of students' weak writing skills, which impacts their academic quality and critical thinking skills. This study aims to determine the extent to which reading interest affects students' writing skills, as well as provide an initial mapping of literacy conditions in the campus environment. The method used is quantitative with a correlational approach. Data was collected through questionnaires to measure reading interest levels and writing tests to assess students' writing ability. The analysis was carried out by Pearson correlation statistical test. The results of the study showed a significant positive correlation between students' reading interest and writing ability. The higher the students' interest in reading, the better their writing skills, especially in terms of writing structure, vocabulary use, and logical argumentation. These findings reinforce the assumption that active reading habits can promote significant improvements in writing skills. Therefore, a learning strategy is needed that is able to foster a literacy culture among students.
