This study examines the tradition of nikah malem songo within the framework of cultural Islam as a form of acculturation between Islamic teachings and local traditions in the coastal community of Tuban, East Java. The research aims to analyze the acculturation process, identify the religious and cultural values embedded in the tradition, and explore its relevance in contemporary society. A qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving religious leaders, community figures, and local residents. The findings show that nikah malem songo reflects a harmonious integration of Islamic principles and local cultural practices while maintaining the essential requirements of Islamic marriage. The tradition also contains symbolic elements, such as selecting a sacred time believed to bring blessings. In addition, the practice serves as a social mechanism that strengthens community solidarity, reinforces cultural identity, and transmits values across generations. Although challenged by modernization, globalization, and puritan religious views, the tradition continues to survive through reinterpretation and selective preservation. The study concludes that nikah malem songo represents an inclusive and contextual form of Islam capable of adapting to changing social dynamics.

This study aims to analyze the determinants of success of PT Makmur Susanti Group, a processed food MSME in Tulungagung, East Java, in achieving “Born Global” status by bypassing the traditional incremental internationalization process and penetrating global markets within only 2.5 years. The research employed a qualitative approach using a single case study method. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews with the owner as the key informant, participatory observation, and documentation, and were analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña interactive model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the company’s rapid internationalization was supported by three main factors, namely visionary managerial capability reflected in entrepreneurial alertness, continuous product innovation through selective raw material use and flavor localization, and the optimal utilization of digital ecosystems such as B2B platforms and Alibaba. In addition, the study identified a “symbiotic” business model involving export aggregators to serve diaspora niche markets, which challenges the conventional assumption that Born Global firms must independently manage international logistics. Furthermore, the owner’s legal background became a strategic advantage in addressing complex halal regulations and international certification requirements. This research contributes a new perspective on the phenomenon of “non-intentional” Born Global firms and highlights the importance of legal-formal competence for MSMEs, while also providing practical insights for regional MSMEs in integrating local comparative advantages with global competitive standards.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a central role in the Indonesian economy, yet their internationalization remains limited. This condition indicates that many SMEs have not fully transformed innovation and digitalization into strategic capabilities that support broader market expansion. This study examines the effects of innovation and digitalization on SME internationalization from the strategic capability perspective. A quantitative explanatory design with a cross-sectional survey was employed. The sample consisted of 200 SME owners or main managers in East Java selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The simulated results indicate that innovation and digitalization positively contribute to SME internationalization through product value enhancement, business process efficiency, and broader market reach. These findings suggest that SME internationalization is more likely to emerge when innovation and digitalization are integrated as strategic capabilities rather than treated as isolated initiatives.

MSMEs play a dominant role in the Indonesian economy, but their contribution to the international market remains relatively limited. This situation indicates that the readiness for internationalisation of MSMEs remains a significant issue, particularly in relation to innovation and digitalisation capabilities as strategic resources. This study aims to analyse the influence of innovation and digitalisation on the readiness for internationalisation of MSMEs in Indonesia using the Resource-Based View approach. The study employs an explanatory quantitative design with a survey approach involving 200 owners or primary managers of SMEs in East Java, selected via purposive sampling. Data were analysed using SEM-PLS. The results indicate that innovation and digitalisation have a positive and significant influence on the internationalisation readiness of SMEs. Digitalisation demonstrates a stronger influence than innovation. The structural model also exhibits adequate explanatory and predictive power. These findings confirm that internationalisation readiness is determined not only by market opportunities but also by the ability of SMEs to strategically manage innovation and digital technology. The implications of this study emphasise the importance of strengthening innovation and digitalisation capabilities as the foundation for formulating SME development strategies that are better prepared to enter international markets.

Donorojo Village, Pacitan Regency, East Java, has significant agricultural potential, particularly in spice commodities. However, the utilization of spices by local farmers remains limited to the sale of raw materials in traditional markets at relatively low prices and with restricted market reach. In fact, spices have high economic value and strong potential to be developed into value-added products, such as herbal beverages. This community service activity aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of the PKK women’s group in Donorojo Village in processing spice-based “biofarmaka” as an effort to empower the local economy and strengthen the spice value chain. The methods employed included lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice, conducted over five days at the Donorojo Village Hall and involving 20 participants. The products generated from this activity included “jahe gajah beverage”, “instan jahe merah”, “instan beras kencur”, and “instan kunir asem”. The results indicated an improvement in participants  understanding of the health benefits of spices, hygienic processing stages, and their ability to produce instant herbal beverage products. Furthermore, this activity has the potential to strengthen linkages between spice farmers as raw material suppliers and the PKK group as processing actors. The development of spice-based “biofarmaka” provides economic value addition, expands market opportunities, and encourages the growth of rural entrepreneurship. Therefore, spice-based “biofarmaka” processing training can serve as a strategy for rural agro-industry development that supports the improvement of economic stability in Donorojo Village.

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a vital role in Indonesia's economy with a contribution of more than 60 percent to the Gross Domestic Product and the absorption of 97 percent of the national workforce, but their participation in international trade is still low with only 14 percent involved in export activities. This research aims to analyze the challenges and opportunities faced by MSMEs in accessing the global market and identify adaptation strategies developed by entrepreneurs. A qualitative method with a phenomenological approach was applied through in-depth interviews with 18 export-oriented MSME owners and managers in East Java who were selected by purposive sampling. Thematic analysis using ATLAS.ti revealed seven main challenges including limited access to capital, complexity of export regulations, constraints on production capacity and quality consistency, language and cross-cultural communication barriers, lack of international market information, logistics infrastructure problems, and intensive competition. On the other hand, four strategic opportunities were identified, namely increasing demand for sustainable authentic products, accelerating digitalization and e-commerce, utilizing free trade agreements, and ethical consumerism trends. MSMEs develop effective adaptation strategies in the form of strategic collaboration, product differentiation with  premium positioning, the use of digital technology, and a focus on  specific market niches. The research emphasizes that the successful internationalization of MSMEs requires a holistic approach integrating internal capacity building with the support of a conducive external ecosystem.

This study aims to analyze the financial performance of the East Java Provincial Government based on the Budget Realization Report (LRA) for the 2022–2024 period. This study is important to assess the effectiveness of revenue achievement and the efficiency of regional expenditure management. The research method used is quantitative descriptive with secondary data in the form of Budget Realization Reports obtained through documentation techniques. Data analysis was performed using financial ratio analysis, namely effectiveness and efficiency ratios. The results show that the revenue performance of the East Java Provincial Government is in the highly effective category, as reflected in the realization of revenue that was able to reach and even exceed the budget target. However, regional expenditure performance is still considered inefficient because the realization of expenditure is close to the set budget. The conclusion of this study shows that even though revenue optimization has been achieved, the local government still needs to improve expenditure control so that regional financial management becomes more efficient in the future.

Regional economic development requires a comprehensive understanding of the structure, potential, and dynamics of economic sectors so that formulated policies can be targeted and sustainable. Bojonegoro Regency as one of the regions in East Java Province has unique economic characteristics with the dominance of certain sectors, so it is necessary to conduct an in-depth analysis of the economic sectors that play a role in driving regional growth. This study aims to identify basic and non-basic sectors, analyze the dynamics of changes in economic sectors, and assess the sectoral competitiveness of Bojonegoro Regency compared to East Java Province. This study uses a quantitative approach with secondary data in the form of Gross Regional Domestic Product at constant prices by business field obtained from the Central Statistics Agency. The analytical methods used include Location Quotient, Dynamic Location Quotient, and Shift Share. The results show that the mining and quarrying sector remains the sector with the most dominant relative advantage in the economic structure of Bojonegoro Regency. However, the analysis of dynamics and competitiveness indicates that several non-extractive sectors are starting to show faster development and growth potential. This finding suggests an opportunity for transformation of the regional economic structure towards a more diverse pattern. The implications of this research emphasize the importance of regional economic development strategies that do not only rely on traditional leading sectors, but also encourage the development of more sustainable potential sectors.

This Community Service (PkM) activity was implemented in the form of an entrepreneurship seminar. This seminar strategically raised the theme "Changing the Mindset Shift from Follower to Owner", with the crucial aim of facilitating a paradigm shift in participants from mere passive consumers or followers to active and empowered business owners (owners). The implementation of PkM is based on the reality of the high unemployment rate among educated people and the urgency of global economic challenges that demand mental transformation and strengthening of practical skills. The main target group of this activity included students of entrepreneurship study programs from various universities in East Java as well as representatives of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) operating in the Gresik area, ensuring the relevance of the material to academic and practical needs. Participatory village development planning is often treated as a technical-administrative routine. In practice, however, planning is inseparable from political dynamics that shape who participates, whose interests prevail, and how scarce resources are allocated. This community empowerment program (PKM) in Kedung Udi Village, Trawas District, Mojokerto Regency, East Java, aimed to strengthen village governance by enhancing the capacity of village officials and community representatives to design and facilitate participatory planning while explicitly addressing the political dimension of planning. The main intervention was a workshop conducted on 22 August 2025, preceded by coordination and situational observation. Workshop modules emphasized: (1) planning as a political decision; (2) navigating dual arenas: formal (Musdes/Musrenbang and RPJMDes, RKPDes, APBDes) and informal (elite networks and gatekeeping); (3) multi-level contestation and policy alignment; and (4) practical tools, including power–interest mapping, programmatic agreements, program tagging for alignment with district planning documents, and transparency/anti elite capture mechanisms. The program resulted in improved participant literacy regarding power relations in planning and produced a follow-up action plan oriented toward institutional advocacy, continuous social control, and routine capacity reinforcement through a university and village partnership.

Karangtalun Village, located in Kalidawir District, Tulungagung Regency, East Java, has significant potential for developing Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) to support community-based health practices. However, the utilization of TOGA in daily health care remains limited due to a lack of knowledge and practical skills among residents. At the same time, the community faces a growing social challenge—digital exposure among young children, which negatively affects their physical, psychological, and social well-being. To address these issues, a capacity-building program was implemented for women involved in the Integrated Guidance Post (Posbindu) through training on TOGA cultivation and digital literacy education using the Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) approach. This participatory model actively engaged community members in the planning, implementation, and evaluation stages. The program results showed an increase in participants’ understanding of TOGA as an alternative for self-care and traditional medicine, greater awareness of the adverse effects of excessive gadget use among children, and positive behavioral changes in parenting, such as setting screen-time limits and replacing gadget use with creative family activities. These findings demonstrate that integrating local wisdom–based education with digital literacy can effectively strengthen family resilience and promote sustainable well-being in the digital era.

This study aims to analyze and project consumer prices of cabbage commodities at four levels: Ngawi Regency, Pacitan Regency, East Java Province, and nationally, using the additive Holt–Winters forecasting model. Monthly price data for the period January 2020–December 2024 were used to capture the dynamics of levels, trends, and seasonal patterns that affect price fluctuations. Model performance was evaluated using the Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) indicators. The results showed differences in model accuracy between regions. East Java Province produced the best performance with the lowest MAE and RMSE values, indicating a more stable price pattern that was easier for the model to capture. In contrast, Ngawi Regency showed the highest volatility, resulting in greater forecasting errors. Pacitan Regency displayed a relatively consistent seasonal pattern with moderate accuracy, while national data showed smoother fluctuations due to the aggregation effect. Overall, the additive Holt–Winters model is effective for short-term projections in regions with low to moderate variability, but is less optimal in regions with highly volatile price dynamics.

This study aims to understand the meaning of halal lifestyle for Generation Z Muslim consumers in East Java through a phenomenological approach. In recent years, the concept of halal lifestyle is no longer limited to food and beverage consumption, but has expanded to include fashion, skincare, digital services, and even social media interactions. Generation Z, as digital natives, interprets halal not only as a religious rule, but also as an identity, a social trend, and a form of self-actualization. This study integrates the results of previous empirical studies that show that halal awareness, religious education, marketing strategies, and the influence of public figures play a significant role in shaping halal behavior among the younger generation. The results of the literature review indicate that Generation Z in East Java experiences complex dynamics in adopting a halal lifestyle, ranging from identity dilemmas, ethical challenges, to the influence of local culture. This phenomenological study confirms that halal lifestyle is a multidimensional phenomenon influenced by spiritual values, consumption rationality, and digital interactions. These findings are expected to provide a conceptual contribution to the study of Muslim consumer behavior and form the basis for developing a halal industry that is more adaptive to the characteristics of the younger generation..
