This study aims to examine the role of religious moderation education in shaping the professional ethics of moderate Muslim accountants. Amid recurring cases of financial statement manipulation, collusion with clients, and unethical pressure in the accounting profession, a strong moral foundation is needed that goes beyond mere compliance with technical standards. This research uses a literature review method, analyzing books, related journals, and articles concerning religious moderation, Islamic professional ethics, and accounting ethics codes. The findings show that the four pillars of religious moderation, namely national commitment, tolerance, an anti-violence attitude, and accommodation of local cultural values, are closely aligned with the core principles of the accountant's code of ethics, namely integrity, objectivity, professional competence and due care, confidentiality, and professional behavior. Moreover, these pillars correspond with the spirit of Moderate Islam, namely tawassuth, i'tidal, tasamuh, musyawarah, ishlah, qudwah, muwathohah, and tawazun. This study concludes that strengthening religious moderation education, particularly through Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK) courses in higher education, plays a strategic role in producing accountants who are principled yet not rigid, compliant with regulations yet humanist in professional practice

In multilingual English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms, students often draw on multiple linguistic resources to support comprehension and interaction during collaborative learning activities. However, translanguaging practices within structured cooperative learning techniques, such as the Jigsaw method, remain underexplored in Indonesian higher education contexts. This study investigates how students employ translanguaging during Jigsaw-based collaborative activities and how they perceive its role in supporting their participation and understanding in an Indonesian EFL classroom. The study adopted a qualitative classroom-based case study design conducted at a pesantren-based university in East Java, Indonesia. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five fifth-semester students who participated in Jigsaw learning activities across different English-related courses. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns in students’ language practices and perceptions. The findings reveal that translanguaging played several important roles in facilitating collaborative learning. First, students used translanguaging to clarify complex concepts and ensure shared understanding during group discussions. Second, translanguaging functioned as peer scaffolding, enabling students to assist classmates by explaining ideas and translating unfamiliar terms. Third, the flexible use of multiple languages helped reduce anxiety and encouraged more active participation in group interaction. Finally, students expressed positive perceptions toward translanguaging, viewing it as a helpful strategy that supported comprehension while still maintaining the importance of English for academic communication. These findings suggest that integrating translanguaging into cooperative learning strategies such as the Jigsaw technique can create more inclusive and interactive learning environments in multilingual EFL classrooms.

Journal of Marine Engineering Research 2026 Politeknik Pelayaran Sulawesi Utara

Indonesia's rapidly expanding demand for certified seafarers places mounting pressure on vocational maritime schools to produce engine-room-ready graduates within compressed instructional timeframes. Entry-level students at Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Pelayaran — Indonesia's vocational maritime high schools — frequently lack foundational machinery literacy, creating dangerous competency gaps before formal sea service begins. Existing learning modules for introductory marine engineering courses rarely apply contextual or project-based approaches tailored to beginners unfamiliar with propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, or fuel delivery systems. This study develops and validates contextual learning modules specifically designed for introductory marine engineering at the vocational level, employing a design-based research methodology across two SMK Pelayaran cohorts in East Java. Module development proceeded through three iterative phases: expert validation, small-scale trial, and full-scale implementation with pre-test and post-test evaluation. Findings demonstrate that contextually designed modules — anchored in real machinery scenarios, peer collaborative tasks, and technology-supported visual content — produce statistically and educationally significant learning gains in basic marine machinery literacy compared to conventional textbook instruction. The study contributes a validated, replicable module design framework for pre-cadet marine engineering education and recommends its adoption within the national vocational maritime curriculum structure.

This study examines the implementation of Indonesian Language learning in higher education as a foundation for developing students’ academic literacy within an Outcome Based Education (OBE) framework. The research is motivated by serious concerns regarding students’ low academic writing ability, weak critical reading skills, and inconsistent use of academic language, which hinder the formation of academic culture at universities. The objective of this study is to describe and interpret the learning process, challenges, and outcomes of Indonesian Language courses in fostering academic literacy. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach conducted intensively over a three-week period. Data were collected through classroom observations, in depth interviews with lecturers and students, and document analysis of lesson plans, teaching materials, and students’ academic assignments. The findings reveal that although the course design conceptually aligns with OBE principles, its classroom implementation has not fully emphasized reflective processes, critical engagement, and consistent academic language practice. Learning activities tend to focus on task completion rather than on the development of academic thinking processes. The study implies that Indonesian Language learning should be strengthened through reflective, contextual, and process oriented strategies to enhance students’ academic literacy and academic identity. These findings contribute theoretically to studies on academic literacy and practically to the improvement of Indonesian Language instruction in higher education.
