In understanding foreign language texts, there are several challenges faced by young learners. The transformation of the learning system into online increasingly adds new problems for them. Students' motivation in online learning is relatively low, while the acquisition of foreign language reading comprehension demands great motivation (Fareh, 2010). Authentic text can be a solution to this problem. Therefore, this study was conducted to test its effectiveness in improving young students' reading comprehension in online classes and to examine their perceptions of teaching reading comprehension using authentic texts in online classes. This research is a quasi-experimental research with one group pre-test post-test design. The data generated is quantitative data in the form of student learning outcomes and reading interest questionnaires. The results showed that the use of authentic texts was proven to be effective in resolving new conflicts that arose in the online foreign language reading comprehension class. In addition, students' perceptions of the use of authentic texts are also good. However, the role of teachers and students is needed in its implementation

Hydraulic systems are vital components in modern naval vessel operations, controlling 60-70% of all ship operational systems. This research aims to comprehensively analyze the benefits of hydraulic system learning for Engineering Corps cadets at the Indonesian Naval Academy (AAL). The study employed a mixed methods approach with concurrent embedded design, involving 163 cadets for quantitative components and 20 cadets for qualitative components. Data collection techniques included structured questionnaires, pre-test and post-test cognitive tests, practical performance observations, and semi-structured interviews. Quantitative data analysis used descriptive and inferential statistics, while qualitative data was analyzed using thematic analysis. Results showed significant improvement in hydraulic system knowledge with large effect size (Cohen's d = 2.31) and average score increase of 28.8%. Cadets' perception of learning benefits was highly positive (M = 4.31 on a 5-point scale), with "Relevance to Operational Tasks" dimension achieving the highest score (M = 4.47). Practical performance showed 74.8% of cadets achieved good to excellent grades. Qualitative analysis identified five main themes: technical understanding transformation, practical competency development, theory-practice integration, soft skills development, and career motivation and orientation. Factors influencing learning benefits included instructor quality (β = 0.34), practical facility availability (β = 0.28), and learning motivation (β = 0.23). This research confirms that hydraulic system learning provides multidimensional benefits encompassing cognitive, psychomotor, and affective aspects, contributing to holistic professional competency development essential for success as Indonesian Navy technical officers.

The focus of this study is the transformation of English and Mathematics education at the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Takengon. Higher education at IAIN Takengon faces challenges in increasing student interest, especially in English and Mathematics study programs. Students believe that mathematics and English skills are not important for career success. This is a common problem in many universities in Indonesia. By focusing on the analysis of high school needs, this study attempts to address the problem. The results of the analysis indicate that IAIN Takengon programs can be tailored to meet the specific needs of English and Mathematics students. As part of the solution, IAIN Takengon students engage directly with high school students and gain hands-on experience in mentoring and teaching. To determine the needs of high schools, an analysis of the study program curriculum, interviews with teachers and students, and observations were conducted. The results of the study indicate that the English and Mathematics curriculum needs to be improved specifically, and the program should be more related to students' real lives. Case studies and qualitative methods are considered effective in collecting contextual data and providing in-depth insights into the state of education at IAIN Takengon. Other practical recommendations include curriculum adjustments, creating learning materials that are more in line with industry needs, and training teachers to implement innovative teaching methods.
