Game-based learning has emerged as a relevant instructional strategy to address the challenges of 21st-century education, including in Islamic Religious Education (PAI), which is often perceived as monotonous and less engaging for students. This study aims to describe the implementation of game-based learning in enhancing students’ learning motivation in the PAI subject at MA Yapina. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the use of educational games—both digital and non-digital—creates a more interactive and enjoyable learning atmosphere while encouraging active student participation. Students demonstrated increased motivation, self-confidence, and interest in understanding religious concepts more deeply. In addition to boosting motivation, game-based activities contributed to better conceptual understanding through collaborative tasks and contextual simulations of Islamic values. However, several challenges were identified, including limited teacher competence in using game-based media and unequal availability of technological facilities. These findings suggest that game-based learning holds significant potential for PAI instruction but requires adequate teacher support and sufficient infrastructure to optimize its implementation. The doctrine of Sola Scriptura, which positions Scripture as the supreme authority in matters of faith and practice, has been a foundational pillar for Protestant Christianity. However, its application within the dynamic context of modern Christian Religious Education (CRE) faces significant challenges that necessitate a critical evaluation. This study employs a qualitative research method with a descriptive-analytical approach to comprehensively investigate the interplay between this theological principle and contemporary educational praxis. The research is conducted by systematically gathering and analyzing a wide range of textual sources, including seminal theological works on Sola Scriptura, current CRE curricula, relevant scholarly articles, and educational policy documents. The analysis describes the core tenets of the principle as historically understood, followed by an examination of its practical implementation in educational settings. The study identifies and elucidates key challenges, such as the rise of historical-critical biblical interpretation, increasing religious pluralism, the pervasive influence of secularism, and the pedagogical shift towards student-centered learning models that prioritize personal experience. The findings reveal a critical tension between the exclusive truth claims inherent in Sola Scriptura and the inclusive, relativistic environment of the modern world. The study concludes that for CRE to remain relevant and effective, it must develop thoughtful pedagogical strategies that faithfully uphold the authority of Scripture while simultaneously engaging with these contemporary challenges. This necessitates a move beyond a mere transmission of doctrine towards fostering a critical and reflective faith among learners, enabling them to navigate the complexities of the modern age.

This paper explores the use of Milton's Language Pattern Model in English Language Teaching (ELT) advertisements on Instagram. Drawing upon Ellerton's (2006) Milton Model framework and Searle's (1969) Speech Act Theory, with a specific focus on illocutionary acts, this research aims to identify the types of Milton Model patterns present in these advertisements and analyse how they are utilized to influence potential learners. Qualitative content analysis was applied to 30 ELT advertisements from Indonesian Instagram accounts. The results show that 15 out of 20 Milton Model language patterns have been identified, accumulating 78 instances. There were four patterns that become the most common patterns, which are Universal Quantifier (13%), Pace Current Experience (13%), Presupposition (12%), and Unspecified Verb (12%). The findings of the present study demonstrate that advertisers use of Milton Model language patterns in order to implicitly make claims, develop connections with their audience, and guide the audience to the direction of desired actions. This is accomplished by using vagueness, emotional connection, and assumed truths to enhance the persuasive impact, while also utilizing linguistic functions as assertive and directive illocutionary acts. This research expands a valuable insight by uniquely integrating the analysis of Milton Model language patterns with illocutionary functions as assertive and directive acts and specific advertising objectives, offering a novel, multi-layered framework for understanding digital persuasion in the English Language Teaching (ELT).

This research explores the dual impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the academic writing experiences of English Literature students learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL). AI tools like ChatGPT, Grammarly, and QuillBot are commonly used for grammar correction and sentence construction. These tools are integrated into students' writing processes, providing valuable assistance in refining their written work. However, their psychological effects, particularly in terms of emotional and ethical implications, have not been sufficiently explored in previous research. This study employed a qualitative phenomenological approach, utilizing Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), to examine the experiences of ten final-year EFL students who actively use AI tools for academic writing. Through semi-structured interviews, the research identified three major themes: reduced technical stress, heightened dependency on AI tools, and ethical concerns about authorship. The findings suggest that while AI tools act as cognitive scaffolds, aiding students by improving fluency and reducing the burden of technical writing tasks, they also introduce psychological challenges. These challenges include increased dependency on the tools and concerns about the authenticity of their work, raising questions about academic integrity and self-efficacy. This study sheds light on the complex relationship between AI as an assistive technology and its potential to cause writing anxiety and dependency. By emphasizing both the positive and negative psychological impacts of AI, the study contributes to the growing body of literature on AI in education. It calls for the development of pedagogical frameworks that balance AI literacy, emotional resilience, and ethical considerations to ensure responsible and effective use of AI in academic contexts.

This article is a literature review that examines Paul Ricoeur’s concept of narrative identity and its relevance to education. Ricoeur conceives human identity as a dynamic construction shaped through narrative, namely the reflective interpretation of life experiences within the dimensions of time, social relations, and self-awareness. In this framework, education is not merely understood as a means of knowledge transmission but also as a hermeneutical space where learners construct an understanding of themselves through experience, reflection, and dialogue. Narrative enables students to coherently connect the past, present, and future, while simultaneously cultivating character, responsibility, and empathy. This article highlights the importance of narrative-based learning strategies, such as case studies, autobiographical writing, analysis of literary and historical texts, and project-based learning. Through these approaches, students are encouraged to develop a reflective and ethical identity that is open to diversity. Thus, Ricoeur’s thought provides a strong philosophical foundation for building humanistic character education in which learners are positioned as subjects who grow and transform through their own life stories.

In the digital era, the erosion of moral values among young people has become a pressing challenge for Islamic Religious Education (PAI). Folktales, as part of Indonesia’s cultural heritage, offer universal moral lessons that resonate with Islamic principles. This study investigates the potential of folktales as instructional media for instilling Islamic values while addressing the demands of digital-based learning. A qualitative descriptive method was applied, involving textual analysis of folktales, classroom observations, and interviews with teachers and students. The selected stories Malin Kundang, Bawang Merah Bawang Putih, Timun Mas, and Lake Toba were examined to identify moral values consistent with Qur’anic and prophetic teachings. Data were analyzed using reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing, supported by triangulation to enhance validity. The results reveal that folktales embody key Islamic values such as filial piety, honesty, patience, courage, and loyalty to promises. Their integration into PAI classes not only increased student attention and emotional engagement but also encouraged deeper moral reflection. Moreover, digital adaptations through animations, videos, and digital storytelling expanded their relevance to contemporary learners, although challenges remain in teachers’ digital literacy and the need for contextual reinterpretation. This study concludes that folktales are more than cultural narratives; they are strategic tools for moral education. By leveraging digital innovation, folktales can reinforce character formation, sustain the relevance of PAI, and prepare Muslim students to be adaptive and value-driven in navigating modern society.
