This study aims to analyze the role of psychological assessment in improving the effectiveness of guidance and counseling services in educational settings through a qualitative literature review. Psychological assessment is a fundamental component in counseling practice that allows counselors to understand clients in depth and comprehensively. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a literature review that analyzes journal articles, textbooks, and relevant academic publications from 2015- 2025. The results of the study indicate that psychological assessment has two main roles: first, helping counselors understand the internal dynamics, cultural context, strengths, and resources of clients; second, providing various types of assessment instruments that can be selected according to needs, including personality, cognitive, emotional, behavioral, projective, multicultural, and technology-based assessments. Appropriate assessment not only functions as a diagnostic tool but also as a therapeutic intervention that encourages client self-awareness. The implementation of quality psychological assessment is the foundation for designing effective and responsive counseling services to the individual needs of students, so that it can improve the overall quality of guidance and counseling services in educational settings.

Elderly individuals living in nursing homes often face psychological challenges such as loneliness, loss of social roles, and limited interaction with family members. This qualitative study aims to explore how nursing home staff perceive the psychological well-being of the elderly based on Ryff’s six dimensions: self-acceptance, positive relations with others, autonomy, environmental mastery, purpose in life, and personal growth. A qualitative approach was employed using in-depth interviews with two permanent staff members at Panti Werdha Harapan Ibu, Semarang, who were purposively selected based on their involvement in elderly care. Data were collected through open-ended interviews guided by Ryff’s scale indicators and analyzed thematically. The results indicate that the elderly are able to accept their condition, build warm social relationships, maintain a level of independence in daily activities, and successfully adapt to the nursing home environment. They also show enthusiasm in participating in various activities and a willingness to continue personal development. These findings suggest that the psychological well-being of the elderly in nursing homes is largely influenced by social support from staff and fellow residents, as well as structured activities that foster a sense of purpose and meaning in life. The implications of this study highlight the vital role of nursing home staff as key agents in maintaining and enhancing the psychological well-being of the elderly through a personal, warm, and humanistic approach.

Parental divorce causes the child to lose the love and affection of his parents and hinders them in their psychological development. This study describes and analyzes the psychological struggles experienced by three children who lost their father's role after divorce. All three experience similar inner conflicts: feelings of loss, neglect, and emotional division, as well as confusion in choosing to live with their father or mother. This study uses a qualitative case study approach and uses participatory observation and in-depth interviews for data collection. The results showed that children experienced conflicts about loyalty, emotional stress, and difficulty in reshaping their self-identity in a changing family environment. Old age is a challenging phase of life, characterized by physical, social and psychological changes that often affect the emotional well-being of the elderly. Loneliness, loss of meaning in life, and prolonged stress are often experienced, especially by those living in nursing homes. One effective approach to overcome this is reminiscence therapy, which is an activity of remembering and retelling past experiences. This study uses a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods to explore how memories of youth can be a source of emotional strength for the elderly. In-depth interviews were conducted with several elderly people in nursing homes. The results revealed that reminiscing about the past had a positive impact on their psychological state. Three main themes were found: (1) memories of youth foster happiness and nostalgia, (2) life achievements foster a sense of pride and self-identity, and (3) life value is gained through social relationships, spirituality, and acceptance. This process strengthens the emotional resilience of the elderly and improves quality of life. Thus, reminiscing about the past is not just nostalgia, but an important psychosocial intervention. Reminiscence therapy is recommended to be implemented routinely as part of efforts to improve the mental well-being of older adults in nursing homes.

The implementation of this research, conducted through Community Service Activities, is grounded in the conditions experienced by parents in caring for children with special needs, such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, cerebral palsy, or other developmental disorders. The heavy burden of caregiving can increase the risk of psychological distress. This Community Service Activity was carried out at the Sahabat Autis Bogor Foundation, located in Billabong Permai Housing Complex, Block C3D No. 2, Bojong Gede, accompanying seven parents of students. The objective of the Community Service Activity was to enhance the quality of life of the mothers, stabilize their mental health, prevent mental health decline, and provide optimal support for their children with mental health challenges. The methods employed in the Community Service Activity included (1) Socialization and Seminar Implementation, (2) Psychological Support and Counseling, and (3) Coping Strategy Training and the Establishment of a Support Group. The findings from this research activity indicated that parents struggled to express the anger and bitterness they experienced as side effects of stress, fatigue, and the lack of attention to their own needs. Parents, particularly mothers of children with special needs, were found to be more vulnerable to prolonged stress, anxiety, and even depression compared to mothers of children without special needs. They also experienced trauma in introducing their children to their social environment and exhibited heightened concerns regarding their children's careers and futures.
