Proceeding of the International Conference on Management, Entrepreneurship, and Business 2025 Asosiasi Riset Ilmu Manajemen Kewirausahaan dan Bisnis Indonesia

This research aims to explore the forms, meanings, and processes of innovation undertaken by traditional Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in facing the challenges of the digital era, with a particular emphasis on the role of local wisdom as a foundation for innovation. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, this research explores the subjective experiences of MSMEs integrating cultural values with technological transformation. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, which were then analyzed using thematic methods. The results show that innovation in traditional MSMEs is not solely focused on technological aspects, but rather is the result of negotiations between cultural values, social adaptation, and modern market demands. Local wisdom has proven to be a source of values and ethics in product development, marketing strategies, and the digital transformation process. The innovation process occurs contextually and gradually, and is heavily influenced by community support and strong local social networks. This study confirms that culture-based innovation strategies provide a more sustainable and inclusive direction for MSMEs navigating the digital era. Therefore, digital transformation should not be separated from the social and cultural context in which MSMEs are rooted. This approach opens up space for a new understanding of more holistic innovation, which is not only technology-oriented, but also strengthens local identity and social cohesion within the MSME ecosystem.

Tarakan City, as the largest city in North Kalimantan Province, plays a strategic role as a center for economics, trade, and tourism. Good accessibility through its international airport and seaport makes Tarakan a major gateway to various destinations in North Kalimantan. This potential is supported by its rich natural resources and cultural heritage, as well as its position as a distribution hub for goods and services. However, the development of the tourism sector remains hampered by the limited availability of premium accommodation facilities that meet international standards, particularly for domestic and international tourists, as well as business travelers. This final project proposes the design of a four-star hotel in Tarakan City as a solution to increase the attractiveness and competitiveness of the tourism sector. The concept used is Neo-Vernacular Architecture, a design approach that combines traditional architectural values with modern needs and technology. This concept aims to maintain local identity, enrich the building's aesthetic qualities, and create comfortable spaces suited to the local tropical climate. During the design process, a thorough analysis of site conditions, climate characteristics, local cultural potential, and four-star hotel operational standards was conducted. The traditional architecture of the Baloy Mayo traditional house served as the primary inspiration, both in terms of form, decorative elements, and spatial philosophy, resulting in a design that is contextual and representative of Tidung culture as one of Tarakan's identities. The resulting design is expected to provide quality accommodation facilities that not only support the needs of tourists and business people, but also become a modern architectural icon that respects and preserves local culture. The presence of this hotel is expected to contribute to the development of the tourism industry and strengthen the image of Tarakan City as a leading destination in North Kalimantan.

Kebun Raya Mangrove (KRM) Surabaya is the first thematic botanical garden in Indonesia that focuses specifically on the mangrove ecosystem. It serves multiple functions, including conservation, education, research, and recreation. With its ecological uniqueness, KRM has strong potential to develop into a prominent ecotourism destination. However, post-pandemic conditions have seen a significant decline in visitor numbers, indicating the urgent need for more effective and targeted marketing strategies. This study aims to identify and evaluate marketing strategies that can enhance tourist interest and increase visitation to KRM Surabaya. The research adopts a descriptive method with a qualitative approach by collecting both primary data (through observations and interviews) and secondary data, which are then analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that KRM is currently facing several critical challenges, including limited accessibility, inadequate digital promotion, and environmental maintenance issues. Existing marketing efforts—such as affordable ticket pricing, minimal promotion via the official social media accounts of the Food Security and Agriculture Service, and limited collaboration with local SMEs—have not successfully expanded KRM’s market reach or visibility. To address these gaps, the study recommends a comprehensive marketing strategy that includes the optimization of digital marketing through official KRM-managed social media channels, strategic partnerships with ecotourism influencers, the organization of thematic events (e.g., mangrove festivals), and the innovation of mangrove-based products that can boost local identity and visitor engagement. By implementing these strategies, KRM is expected to strengthen its destination branding, attract a broader audience, and establish itself as a leading model for sustainable tourism in Surabaya and beyond.

Both the process of democratization and the societal change that has taken place in Indonesia have been significantly influenced by globalization. The purpose of this study is to conduct a literature review that focuses on the relationship between globalization, social transformation, and the growth of democracy in Indonesia. With the help of a qualitative methodology that is founded on literature studies, this research investigates the ways in which the flow of information, technology, and global values influences the mentalities of individuals, as well as the social structures and political dynamics in Indonesia. The findings of the study indicate that globalization fosters the development of a society that is more receptive to democratic principles, such as the protection of human rights, the freedom of expression, and the provision of opportunities for political engagement. There are, however, challenges that come along with globalization. These challenges include socio-economic inequality, the erosion of local values, and threats to ethnic and cultural sovereignty. With globalization serving as a catalyst in improving political freedom and expanding civil society involvement, the process of democratization in Indonesia developed fast after the reforms that took place in 1998. The findings of this study highlight the significance of policies that are capable of striking a balance between the impact of globalization and the maintenance of local identity. This is necessary in order to bring about social change that is inclusive and to enhance democracy in Indonesia in a way that is sustainable.

This study aims to explain the strength of social capital owned by Nurdin in political contestation in 2016. This type of research is a descriptive qualitative study to explore the strength of social capital in the transformation of village head leadership. Meanwhile, the approach used is the phenomenological approach The results of this study indicate that the previous leadership style that the author limits only captures the leadership style for the period 2002-2009. During the 2002-2004 period, when Karaeng Oddang was in charge, in his leadership he tried to be more democratic, but the domination of his father (Karaeng Manna) was still strong at that time. Likewise with Aji Awaluddin 's karaeng leadership style, he was a typical leader who was considered by the community to be very good and realized democratic values during his tenure as head of Kindang village for the 2004-2009 period. In 2009-2016, this was where leadership transformation took place. Photographing Nurdin's leadership style for the period of 2009 cannot be separated from appreciation and praise. However, this criticism did not have an impact on the 2016 village head election. Nurdin won the pilkades again.  Nurdin's strength of social capital in the election has won him victory. The rise of primordial sentiment among ordinary people (tumaradeka) as Nurdin's strength, and on the other hand the rise of negative stereotypes against karaeng that spread to the issue of group identity and the strong strength of social networking capital, bonding, bridging and linking greatly colored the 2016 pilakdes. Social capital security control is a selling point for Nurdin so that he can get support from the community compared to other candidates who are deemed unfit and unable to anticipate security in Kindang village.

This literature study examines the construction of cultural identity through socio-economic practices in plantation ecosystems among the Acehnese, Malay, and Chinese communities in Indonesia. Using a systematic literature review of 42 selected sources (1990-2023), the research reveals that plantations function as sites of identity negotiation—dynamic arenas of cultural adaptation and resistance. In Aceh, the integration of Islamic values (zakat [alms] from plantations, meunasah education) and local wisdom (peusijuek rituals) mediates post-conflict reconciliation and identity transformation from "combatants" to "farmers" (Muchlis et al., 2023; Aulia et al., 2024). For the Malay community, the customary-territorial concept of bela kampung (communal defense) underpins resistance to authority fragmentation through gotong royong (mutual cooperation) and communal land allocation (Yunanda et al., 2024; Nasution et al., 2024). Meanwhile, the Chinese community develops invisibility strategies (e.g., land acquisition via family foundations, citizenship aliases) to convert legal marginalization into clan-based social capital (Irawan, 2016; Thung, 2018). Key findings highlight divergent identity sources: religiosity (Aceh), customary-territoriality (Malay), and clan social capital (Chinese). The study recommends integrating local wisdom into inclusive plantation policies and employing ethnographic approaches to examine identity intersectionality complexity.

The relationship between Makassar sailors and the Yolngu Aboriginal people in northern Australia since the 17th century shows an early form of peaceful and mutually beneficial inter-community diplomacy. The sea cucumber trade activity became the entry point for deep economic cooperation and cultural exchange, leaving a significant influence on the social and cultural identity of the Yolngu people. Using a historical method approach, this article explores archaeological, linguistic, and oral narrative evidence that strengthens the traces of this interaction. In the modern context, this historical legacy is an important foundation for Indonesia's cultural diplomacy and soft power, while strengthening strategic cooperation with Australia in the fields of maritime, culture, and regional security.

Religious  moderation emphasizes balance in understanding religious teachings, so that it can be a bridge in building harmony between Islamic preaching and civic education. This study aims to analyze how religious moderation can be a meeting point between Islamic preaching that is oriented towards strengthening Islamic values and civic education that focuses on the formation of national character. The research method used is a literature study with a descriptive qualitative approach. The results of the study indicate that religious moderation can integrate Islamic and national values through the principles of tawasuth (moderate), tawazun (balanced), i'tidal (fair), and tasamuh (tolerance). This study explores the character development of Vianne Mauriac in Kristin Hannah’s historical novel The Nightingale, with a particular focus on how her moral progression is revealed through characterization. It aims to examine how direct and indirect characterization contribute to the portrayal of Vianne’s evolving moral reasoning under the pressure of wartime experiences. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, the analysis uses Rimmon-Kenan’s theory to identify characterization techniques and Kohlberg’s stages of moral development to interpret Vianne’s ethical transformation. The findings indicate that Vianne shifts from self-preserving and fear-driven decisions to socially conscious choices and ultimately to morally autonomous actions grounded in universal principles. Her characterization, through action, speech, appearance, and environment, functions not only to construct Vianne’s identity but also to trace her moral journey. Her development demonstrates how literature, particularly historical fiction, can reflect and explore complex ethical growth. The study contributes to understanding how characterization and moral development work together in shaping a compelling and morally resonant protagonist.
