The central building of the cyber world in the city center plays a significant role in enhancing community activities, providing social space, and contributing to the city's image. As the first shopping center in Palembang City, International Plaza has historical and strategic value in the city's development. However, over time, the attractiveness of International Plaza has decreased significantly. This decline is caused by several factors, such as the development of new, more modern shopping centers and the lack of updates to the building's design elements that can attract visitors. This study aims to analyze the potential for redesigning International Plaza with a local cultural approach. In this redesign concept, the Sarinah Building in Jakarta is used as a comparative study because it has successfully combined modern concepts with the development of traditional elements that reflect local culture. The Sarinah Building, although designed with a modern approach, still maintains cultural values relevant to the surrounding community, thus creating a space that is not only functional but also has visual and emotional appeal for its visitors. The results of the study indicate that with a modern architectural approach that remains based on local culture, International Plaza has the potential to revitalize and attract visitors. The suggested redesign includes changes to the building's facade by adding ornaments typical of Palembang City, such as traditional carvings or motifs that reflect the richness of local culture. These ornaments can be applied using secondary skin techniques to building facades, which not only enhance aesthetics but also serve as sunscreens. Furthermore, zoning and tenant order are crucial for a more organized and comfortable visitor flow. Finally, enhancing the public space at the front of the building with additional public facilities, gardens, and gathering areas can create a more vibrant and enjoyable atmosphere for visitors.

This Final Project report discusses the visual design process by the author as Director of Photography (DoP) in the creation of a feature video entitled "Bamboo Melody: Reviving a Traditional Symphony." This work aims to highlight the challenges faced in preserving the art of angklung music in the modern era, particularly the low interest of Generation Z in traditional culture. Angklung, which is one of Indonesia's cultural heritages, is experiencing a regeneration crisis, where the successors of this tradition are decreasing. In this context, it is important to convey the meaning and cultural values of angklung to the younger generation in a relevant and engaging way. The method of writing this report uses a descriptive approach that includes three production stages: pre-production, production, and post-production. Each stage is designed systematically and reflectively to ensure that the intended message is well received by the audience. In the pre-production stage, the author designed a visual concept that aligns with the theme and purpose of the work, namely to depict the meaningful philosophy of the angklung sound. In the production stage, shooting techniques were carefully selected to ensure aesthetics and clear communication in each frame. The results of the application of appropriate shooting techniques are proven to be able to present the philosophical value of angklung aesthetically and communicatively. Through powerful visuals, viewers can experience the depth of meaning behind this traditional musical instrument. Furthermore, this work concludes with testimonials from young angklung players and an angklung performance at Saung Angklung Udjo, illustrating concrete efforts to preserve angklung culture. This section emphasizes the importance of youth involvement in cultural regeneration, demonstrating that with a creative approach, the angklung's sound philosophy can be revived and well-received by Generation Z. Therefore, this work not only conveys solutions in the form of discourse but also provides a concrete illustration of cultural preservation through contemporary media that is accessible and understandable to the younger generation.

The Javanese wayang kulit purwa (classical shadow puppetry) is a complex performance art form in which karawitan (gamelan music) plays a primary and crucial role, serving as accompaniment, building atmosphere, and accentuating the puppet's movements. A vital musical element within the pakeliran (puppetry performance) repertoire is the gending budhalan, a musical piece used to accompany the scene of a military departure. Ki Purbo Asmoro, one of the most influential dalang (puppeteers) of the contemporary pakeliran garap (interpretive performance style) era, is renowned for his intelligent and innovative performance concepts and musical interpretations. This study aims to analyze Gending Cundaka, a piece frequently used for this departure scene, within the context of Ki Purbo Asmoro's performances. Employing an ethnomusicological and performance studies approach, this qualitative research examines three main aspects: (1) the musical structure and aesthetics of Gending Cundaka; (2) its dramaturgical function as a gending budhalan; and (3) the uniqueness of Ki Purbo Asmoro's interpretation, or garap, that distinguishes his performances. Data were collected through participatory observation of Ki Purbo Asmoro's audio-visual performance recordings, transcription of musical arrangements, and a literature review. The findings indicate that in Ki Purbo Asmoro's interpretation, Gending Cundaka functions not merely as musical illustration but as a potent narrative instrument. Its assertive melodic structure, combined with dynamic kendhangan (drumming patterns) and dramatic tempo manipulations (seseg-kendho), effectively builds the performance's atmosphere, affirms the character of the troops, and provides psychological depth to the scene. The selection and treatment of this gending reflect Ki Purbo Asmoro's artistic intelligence in blending tradition with innovation to achieve gregel (an aesthetic thrill) and evoke a profound sense of rasa (deep feeling) in the audience.

The design of Lecturer Housing for Campus 4 Gorontalo State University is a strategic necessity in line with the expansion of educational institutions and the increasing number of educators requiring adequate and proximate housing. The primary objective of this research is to produce a lecturer housing design that is not only adaptive and sustainable, but also harmonized with the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW) of Bone Bolango Regency. The research methodology encompasses a comprehensive site analysis, examining aspects such as climate conditions, topography, vegetation patterns, infrastructure and utility networks, ambient noise levels, and site accessibility. Furthermore, a zoning and spatial relationship study was conducted to determine effective space allocation based on the principles of tropical architecture and green building practices. The findings of the study highlight that a north-south building orientation significantly reduces heat absorption, while the integration of cross-ventilation strategies enhances natural airflow and thermal comfort. Spatial zoning into public, semi-public, private, and service areas allows for organized layouts and promotes social interaction among residents. Sustainability is reinforced through the application of green architectural technologies, including the use of green concrete, lightweight steel frameworks, solar energy panels, as well as integrated waste-water management systems that separate black water and grey water. Landscaping elements, both softscape and hardscape, are utilized to enhance aesthetics while supporting ecological balance and rainwater absorption. This design proposal contributes to the broader discourse of sustainable tropical housing and may serve as a replicable model for future lecturer housing projects in similar regional contexts. It emphasizes the importance of environmentally responsive, cost-efficient, and socially supportive residential architecture.

Contemporary art continues to expand its definition, blurring the boundaries between functional objects and fine art. This practice-based research explores the potential of recycled materials in visual art creation, using a tricycle as the primary medium. Using a mixed-media approach, primarily utilizing recycled metal and plate, along with recycled components such as drills and old water pumps, this project aims to transform the tricycle from a mobility object into a work of fine art. This concept intentionally blurs functional aesthetics, emphasizing freedom of expression and uniqueness of form, and reflecting a dialogue between the past and the present through recycled materials. Through a case study of the work "The Bully," this paper explores how a writer's personal trauma can be sublimated into a powerful artistic expression, forming a visual narrative of power, intimidation, and artistic revenge. This research also adopts an Artistic Research methodology to examine the creative process holistically.

Introduction: Periodontal tissue is a supporting and protective tissue of the teeth consisting of gingiva, periodontal ligament, cementum, and alveolar bone. One type of periodontal disease is gingival enlargement. The main factor that causes this disease is bacterial plaque, so gingivectomy treatment is needed. Gingivectomy is a procedure to cut excess gingival tissue with the aim of eliminating pockets and gingival inflammation, so that good physiological, functional and aesthetic gingiva is obtained. Case: A 19-year-old male presented to Soelastri Dental and Oral Hospital with complaints of gingival enlargement, which had been occurring for the past six months, primarily affecting the upper right posterior and lower anterior gingiva. The patient reported no history of systemic illness and no known allergies to medications or food. Clinically, the gingiva appeared enlarged, soft in consistency, reddish in color, with blunted gingival margins. Periodontal pocket depths were recorded as follows: tooth 32 : 433, 31 : 423, 41 : 323 and 42 : 333. A diagnosis of gingival enlargement was established.. Management: The initial treatment consisted of scaling and root planing. However, no significant improvement was observed at the 7-day follow-up. Consequently, gingivectomy was performed on teeth 32, 31, 41, and 42. A follow-up evaluation was conducted 10 days post-operatively. Intraoral examination revealed periodontal pocket depths of 31 (2-1-1), 32 (2-1-2), 41 (2-1-2), and 42 (2-1-2). The patient demonstrated good oral hygiene, with a marked reduction in gingival enlargement. Nonetheless, mild edema and erythema persisted on the labial aspect of teeth 41 and 42. Conclusion : Gingival enlargement is an inflammation that occurs in the gingiva due to local factors, namely plaque bacteria. Treatment of gingival enlargement that does not shrink after scaling, root planing, must be performed gingivectomy so that good morphology and aesthetics are obtained.

The growth of the snack food industry in Indonesia encourages MSME actors to innovate in improving product competitiveness, including through packaging development. UMKM Nambawang, as a producer of fried shallots, faces challenges in packaging design that lacks visual appeal and does not reflect the product’s identity, despite its superior taste quality. This study aims to design more functional, economical, and competitive fried shallot packaging by integrating the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and Value Engineering (VE) methods. QFD is applied to translate consumer needs (voice of customer) into technical packaging attributes, while VE is used to evaluate the performance and cost-efficiency of design alternatives. The analysis results indicate that key attributes prioritized in packaging development include color aesthetics, product protection, ease of opening and resealing, clarity of product information, and storage convenience. These main attributes are translated into technical elements such as the use of standing pouches, zipper locks, full-print designs, added onion illustrations, and complete product information. The application of QFD and VE methods results in a mockup visually appealing, functional, and durable packaging design, enhancing the product’s added value based on consumer needs and increasing its competitiveness in the domestic market.

Southeast Asia has long held a strategic position in global maritime trade since the pre-Islamic era. Through interactions with Arab, Persian, and Indian merchants, Islam was introduced to the region not through military conquest, but via peaceful and cultural means, particularly through trade and Sufi missionary activities. The Islamization process unfolded gradually, beginning in major port cities such as Samudera Pasai, Malacca, and Gresik, with significant support from local elites. This study employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach using library research methods, drawing from historical records, Malay Islamic manuscripts, and recent academic studies. The findings reveal that Islamic civilization in Southeast Asia manifested in the form of Islamic sultanates, traditional Islamic educational institutions (pesantren and pondok), and rich cultural expressions such as arts, literature, and architecture shaped by local aesthetics. This acculturation process gave rise to a moderate, inclusive, and adaptive form of Islam. In the modern era, Islam in this region continues to evolve in response to global challenges through institutional innovation and the contextualization of Islamic values. Therefore, Islam in Southeast Asia is not merely a religious system, but a civilizational force that shapes a distinctive and sustainable regional identity.

This study examines how Javanese culture is represented in the tingkeban ceremony of the second child of celebrity couple Lesti Kejora and Rizky Billar, using a critical discourse analysis approach influenced by the post-structuralist theory of Michel Foucault. The tingkeban tradition, originally a private ritual, has been reconstructed into digital entertainment, focusing on aesthetics, religious narratives, and the ideal image of motherhood. By applying Foucault’s concepts of discourse, power, and subject formation, this article reveals how cultural meanings, gender roles, and celebrity identities are formulated through discursive mechanisms on social media platforms. The findings indicate that the event is not merely a means of cultural preservation, but also a symbolic exercise of power that reinforces social norms and preferred identities, particularly those aligned with the middle-class values. In this context, tradition becomes a contested site for the construction and negotiation of meaning in contemporary discourse.

This study critically examines the construction and reproduction of authenticity norms and buffer standards in Indonesian TikTok users’ communication practices. Employing Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) framework, the research explores how digital expressions—through captions, comments, and hashtags—reflect power relations, algorithmic logic, and social norms that operate subtly yet effectively. An analysis of five popular TikTok contents reveals that so-called “authentic” expression is not spontaneous honesty but rather a curated and performative construct aligned with algorithmic expectations and community aesthetics. The concept of the buffer standard refers to implicit symbolic boundaries that define which expressions are “acceptable” and which risk social or systemic rejection. The study concludes that freedom of expression in digital spaces like TikTok is always a product of negotiation between user agency, algorithmic pressure, cultural norms, and the commodification of identity.

Design in the perspective of Hadith encompasses not only visual and physical aspects but also incorporates moral, social, and spiritual values taught in Islam. In everyday life, Islam encourages its followers to create an orderly, clean, and beneficial environment and lifestyle in accordance with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This study employs a thematic Hadith approach by collecting and analyzing Hadiths related to the theme of design, such as cleanliness, simplicity, beauty, social balance, and sincere intention. The Hadith sources used include authentic collections such as Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and Sunan Abu Dawood. The findings reveal that design, according to Hadith, is a comprehensive effort to shape a life aligned with Islamic values, emphasizing ethics, usefulness, and balance between worldly life and the hereafter. Thus, the concept of design in Hadith is not merely a matter of aesthetics but also a form of worship that reflects noble character and brings individuals closer to Allah SWT.

In an era marked by complex global threats and the intensification of visual media, contemporary security studies must expand their understanding of securitization beyond linguistic speech acts to include visual dimensions. This article examines how visual narratives shape global threat perceptions through aesthetics that operate performatively and emotionally. Using a qualitative approach and visual discourse analysis, this study demonstrates that images, symbols, and visual representations in media play a significant role in constructing issues such as terrorism, migration, pandemics, and climate crises as existential threats. Visuals not only convey information but also activate emotions such as fear, empathy, and urgency, which in turn influence security policies. However, the findings also highlight the need for caution against the manipulative potential of visuals that may reinforce stereotypes and distort reality. Therefore, this article emphasizes the importance of fostering visual literacy and adopting ethical approaches in global security communication.
