This study examines the effectiveness of Assemblr Augmented Reality (AR) in improving English vocabulary mastery among deaf students in an inclusive classroom setting. The research was conducted at SD N 2 Bengkala using a quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach. The participants were Grade 5 deaf students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a researcher-developed vocabulary test consisting of 15 items, which was validated through expert judgment and demonstrated high reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.815). Descriptive statistical analysis revealed a substantial improvement in students’ vocabulary scores, with the mean increasing from 45.00 in the pre-test to 76.50 in the post-test. The minimum score improved from 40 to 73, and the maximum score increased from 50 to 80. Inferential analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test showed a significance value of 0.180, indicating no statistical significance due to the small sample size. However, the observed improvement indicates strong practical significance. The findings suggest that Assemblr AR enhances vocabulary learning by providing visual and interactive learning experiences that support deaf students’ cognitive processing. This study highlights the potential of AR technology as an effective instructional medium in inclusive education environments.

This study explores the themes of poverty and educational values in the novel Al-Bidayah wa al-Nihayah by Naguib Mahfouz using the sociology of literature approach developed by Alan Swingewood. The novel is selected because it portrays the social reality of Egyptian society in the 1940s, particularly the lower class facing economic hardship, social inequality, and limited social mobility. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method through reading, note-taking, and library research. The data are drawn from narratives, dialogues, and events in the novel that reflect both poverty and educational values. The analysis is conducted by relating the textual content to its social and historical context. The findings indicate that poverty is not merely an economic issue but also a structural condition affecting the psychological, moral, and social aspects of the characters. Furthermore, the novel conveys educational values, including religious, moral, social, and cultural dimensions, which are closely linked to the realities of pre-revolutionary Egyptian society. Overall, Swingewood’s approach highlights the novel as a form of social critique as well as a medium for fostering readers’ social awareness.

This study examines the practice and meaning of hijab among Muslim female students in the Indonesian Language and Literature Department to determine whether the hijab is understood more as a religious obligation or as a form of identity choice. The purpose of this study is to describe the motivations, patterns of practice, social influences, and experiences of female students related to wearing the hijab in their daily lives, both on and off campus. The study employed a quantitative-descriptive design complemented by qualitative components. A structured questionnaire consisting of Likert-scale statements and open-ended questions was distributed to 70 Muslim female students, while essay responses were analyzed thematically to gain a deeper understanding of the respondents’ perspectives. Quantitative data were summarized using descriptive statistics in the form of percentage distributions to identify response tendencies, while qualitative data were coded to present representative experiences, views, and reasons underlying the decision to wear the hijab. The results showed that the majority of female students consistently wore the hijab primarily because of religious beliefs and personal awareness as Muslim women, although cultural identity, family environment, and social acceptance also influenced the practice. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of recognizing the hijab as both a manifestation of faith and a social identity, as well as the need for a campus environment that respects individual motivations, choices, and autonomy in wearing the hijab.

This study examines the use of modality in Instagram posts to express interpersonal meaning and self-positioning in the context of digital personal branding. Based on Palmer’s (2001) theory, this study aims to identify the types of modality and their functions in conveying speakers’ attitudes, beliefs, obligations, and abilities. The data consist of 30 modal expressions analyzed using a qualitative semantic–pragmatic approach. The analysis reveals three types of modality: deontic, epistemic, and dynamic, with deontic modality as the most dominant (11 data/36.67%), followed by epistemic (10 data/33.33%) and dynamic (9 data/30%). Deontic modality is used to express obligation and social norms, for example through the use of harus and tidak boleh; epistemic modality expresses belief and degrees of certainty, such as mungkin and pasti; while dynamic modality indicates ability and intention, such as ingin and mau. These findings demonstrate that modality plays an important role in constructing interpersonal meaning and speaker positioning in digital discourse, particularly on Instagram.

Metaphor is a form of figurative language that expresses meaning indirectly by comparing one concept with another concept that has similar characteristics. The purpose of this research is to identify the types of metaphors used and to analyze how metaphors are represented in the lyrics of selected songs by Nadin Amizah, namely Bertaut, Taruh, Sorai, Semua Aku Dirayakan, and Hormat Kepada Angin. This research uses Ullmann’s theory (1972) which classifies metaphors into four types: anthropomorphic metaphor, animal metaphor, concrete-to-abstract metaphor, and synesthetic metaphor. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data were collected by reading the song lyrics, identifying metaphorical expressions, and classifying them based on Ullmann’s theory. The results show that there are 20 metaphorical expressions found in the selected songs. Anthropomorphic metaphor appears most frequently with 9 occurrences (45%), followed by concrete-to-abstract metaphor with 8 occurrences (40%). Animal metaphor appears 2 times (10%), while synesthetic metaphor appears only once (5%). These metaphors are used in the lyrics to express emotional experiences and personal reflections through imaginative and figurative language.

Pantun, as a form of traditional oral literature, plays a crucial role in the development of regional literature learning and character education. This study aims to analyze the application of pantun as a learning medium capable of revitalizing students' character values in the modern era. The study was conducted through a literature review of several relevant scientific articles, including those by Purnama et al. (2023), Andayani (2024), Yoga (2024), and Rozani (2025), all of which discuss the relationship between pantun, learning, and character development. The analysis shows that pantun contains character values such as religiosity, honesty, responsibility, courtesy, hard work, and love of country. Through pantun reciprocal activities, the creation of thematic pantun, and the integration of pantun into a local wisdom-based curriculum, regional literature learning can be an effective means of developing polite, creative, and cultured personalities. The application of pantun in the classroom not only strengthens appreciation for regional literature but also serves as a concrete strategy for revitalizing national character. Thus, pantun is no longer merely a legacy of oral tradition, but rather an instrument for moral and cultural education relevant to the needs of 21st-century education.

This study aims to analyze the symbolic meaning of the mangulosi tradition in Toba Batak traditional wedding ceremonies using Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected from visual media such as YouTube and TikTok, supported by informants familiar with Toba Batak culture. The findings reveal that meaning in the mangulosi tradition is constructed through three levels of signification: denotation, connotation, and myth. At the denotative level, mangulosi is understood as the act of giving ulos in a wedding ceremony. At the connotative level, ulos and the ritual process convey symbolic meanings such as blessings, protection, harmony, and the strengthening of social and kinship relationships. At the myth level, the tradition reinforces the cultural ideology that marriage is considered legitimate when it receives recognition and blessings from family and customary authorities. Quantitatively, the findings show that artifacts are dominated by visual connotative meanings (40%), while ritual actions emphasize non-verbal (30%) and verbal (20%) meanings. Therefore, the mangulosi tradition is not only a ceremonial practice but also a medium for preserving cultural identity and social values within the Toba Batak community.

. Studies on the use of a digital storybook for teaching English to young learners have been abundant; however, the integration of independence values into the story for elementary school students in Indonesia has received limited attention. Independence is one of the characters that educate young learners to become responsible and self-reliant. This study aims to design a digital storybook that integrates independence value into English language learning materials for fifth-grade students. Using a qualitative Design-Based Research (DBR) approach, this study employed a design framework as the main research instrument, derived from character education theory, Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL), and multimedia learning theory. Data were collected through the analyses of curriculum policies, English textbooks, children’s literature, character education, and multimedia learning. This study produced a digital storybook entitled Lisa Can Do It, which can be expected to become a medium to learn English and at the same time educate children about independence value. Findings indicate that character-based digital storybooks demonstrate the potential to integrate language learning with character education, providing a foundation for the design and implementation of digital learning materials integrated with character in English language education in elementary schools. Further research should focus on the implementation of the product to evaluate its impact on student learning outcomes.

This study seeks to interpret the meaning of the lyrics in the song “Ada Titik‑Titik di Ujung Doa” by Sal Priadi through Schleiermacher’s hermeneutic approach. The song reveals a subtle spiritual dimension by means of metaphor and poetic language, portraying prayer as a personal, reflective, and hope‑laden form of inner conversation amid the uncertainty of life in the post‑pandemic era. By adopting a qualitative interpretive method, the research examines the song lyrics through Schleiermacher’s two principal dimensions: grammatical interpretation and psychological interpretation. The analysis shows that prayer in this song is not merely a conventional religious ritual, but an existential expression of human beings facing loss, isolation, and unfulfilled hopes. The phrase “titik‑titik di ujung doa” functions as a symbolic space of incomplete psycho‑spiritual longing, in which prayer is understood as an open, fragmented, and repetitive process, as well as a medium for reconciling with the past and seeking forgiveness for both oneself and others. Within Schleiermacher’s hermeneutic framework, the interpretation of these lyrics suggests that prayer in contemporary Indonesian pop music serves as a representation of human resilience, personal, reflective, and subtly critical of the notion that divine response must always be complete and perfectly resolved.

This study aims to describe and examine effective strategies for memorizing the Quran among students at Pondok Pesantren Salafiyah Ula An-Nashar Batam. The background of this study is influenced by the variation in memorization results, which are related to the learning approaches implemented at the pesantren. Using a descriptive qualitative research design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies of both memorizing students and tahfiz instructors. The findings of the study revealed three basic methods used: (1) the Wahdah method as a cognitive foundation for memorization, (2) the Sima’i method to support the students’ auditory memory, and (3) individual guidance (talaqqi) to ensure the accuracy of Quranic recitation. The success of these memorization strategies is supported by the learning ecosystem, which includes spiritual motivation, a conducive pesantren environment, teacher competency, and family involvement in supporting the memorization process. The implications of this study provide practical insights for tahfiz program managers and enrich the knowledge of Quranic learning, especially at the foundational level, for the development of more effective methods in producing Quran memorizers.

Slum upgrading is a strategic step in improving the quality of life of urban communities, where its success is largely determined by the active involvement of local residents. This study aims to analyze the level of community involvement in the implementation of slum upgrading in Mantuil Village, South Banjarmasin District. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, data were collected through a structured questionnaire from 98 respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data analysis was conducted descriptively to measure the level of participation in four stages of the activity. The results show that community involvement is in the good category, but has an uneven distribution. The highest average scores were found in the utilization stage (30.44) and maintenance stages (30.23), indicating that community participation is driven by the principle of direct benefit from the infrastructure being built. Conversely, participation in the planning and implementation stages tends to be lower due to structural barriers such as time constraints and respondents' economic burdens. These findings confirm that sustainable settlement upgrading requires synergy between community social capital and government policies that are adaptive to the geographic characteristics of the region, particularly related to tidal flooding vulnerability in riverbank areas.

This study aims to develop a storytelling-based learning media in the form of a YouTube video to support students’ understanding of narrative text based on their learning needs. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) design using the ADDIE model, focusing on the stages of analysis and development. The data were collected through a questionnaire as part of the needs analysis to identify students’ responses toward listening and repetition activities, as well as the difficulties they face in understanding narrative texts. The results show that students generally respond positively to listening and repetition. However, they still experience difficulties in understanding the storyline and vocabulary. The findings also indicate that students need learning support in the form of audio, visual elements, and vocabulary assistance. Based on these findings, a learning product was developed in the form of a YouTube-based digital storytelling video entitled “Learn Narrative Text Through Fun Storytelling (Listen, Repeat & Retell)”. The video integrates storytelling, repetition, vocabulary explanation, and speaking practice to support students’ comprehension. Due to time limitations, this study was limited to the development of a prototype and has not yet included expert validation. Therefore, future research is recommended to conduct validation to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of the developed product.
