The integration of artificial intelligence chatbots as virtual teaching assistants (VTAs) represents a transformative shift in student support services within higher education. This study investigates the implementation, effectiveness, and impact of AI-powered chatbots in providing academic support, administrative assistance, and personalized guidance to university students. Employing a longitudinal mixed-methods approach over 18 months, this research analyzed data from 2,347 students across 15 universities that deployed VTA systems, examining interaction patterns, student satisfaction, learning outcomes, and cost-effectiveness. Quantitative analysis of 487,392 chatbot interactions revealed that VTAs successfully handled 78.4% of student queries without human intervention, with response times averaging 3.2 seconds compared to 4.7 hours for traditional support channels. Qualitative findings from focus groups and interviews highlighted students' appreciation for 24/7 availability, immediate responses, and non-judgmental interactions, while also revealing concerns about empathy limitations, complex query handling, and the desire for human connection in critical situations. The study demonstrates that VTAs significantly improve support service accessibility and efficiency while reducing operational costs by an average of 43%. However, optimal implementation requires careful integration with human support staff, continuous training of AI systems, and attention to equity issues in digital access. This research contributes to understanding how AI can augment rather than replace human educators, offering evidence-based recommendations for implementing VTA systems that enhance student success while maintaining the human elements essential to quality education.

This study aims to determine the cost of production for Sa'dan woven fabric using two cost calculation methods, namely full costing and variable costing. These methods are applied to analyze the cost differences involved in the production process. Data were collected through observation and direct interviews with the weavers. Based on the research findings, the cost of production per sheet of woven fabric using the full costing method is Rp 316,800, which includes the costs of raw materials, labor, and production overheads. In contrast, the calculation using the variable costing method results in a lower production cost, amounting to Rp 314,690. Additionally, the uncertainty in the production quantity also affects the cost incurred. The higher the production quantity, the greater the cost incurred, which impacts the setting of selling prices and the desired profit by the weaver. Therefore, it is important for the weavers to consider efficiency in production planning in order to optimize costs and maximize profits. By understanding the differences between these two methods, the weavers are expected to make more accurate pricing decisions based on the current production conditions, ensuring better business sustainability.

The homicide arising from the victim’s refusal to terminate her pregnancy presents a crucial issue regarding how the element of intent is constructed within Indonesian criminal law. This study originates from the need to examine the extent to which the offender’s motive triggered by anger after the victim declined his request for an abortion may influence the classification of dolus in the act of killing. The objective of this research is to describe the characteristics of intent in the perpetrator’s actions, determine whether the incident meets the criteria of dolus directus, dolus indirectus, or dolus eventualis, and assess the role of motive in shaping criminal liability. The method employed is normative legal research using a case approach and a statute approach, supported by the analysis of comparable court decisions and criminal law doctrines concerning the element of intent. The research findings indicate that the perpetrator’s deliberate assault on the victim after she rejected the request to terminate the pregnancy can be categorized as dolus directus, as he both realized and desired the lethal outcome of his conduct as an expression of anger. The motive related to the refusal of pregnancy responsibility does not negate intent; rather, it merely serves as a trigger for the criminal act. Thus, the element of intent in this case can be firmly constructed through an assessment of the perpetrator’s will, awareness, and conduct, thereby ensuring the accurate application of homicide provisions and providing legal certainty regarding the limits of criminal liability in pregnancy-related conflicts.

William Shakespeare’s drama Antony and Cleopatra illustrates various aspects of hedonism, especially in the pursuit of love, power, and desire. These behaviors are reflected in the way the characters prioritize personal pleasure over political duty, showing how immediate gratification often clashes with responsibility. This study aims to explore the different types of hedonism represented in the play. A qualitative descriptive approach is used to analyze the dialogues and actions of the main characters, Mark Antony and Cleopatra, based on Weijers’ (2012) framework. The results reveal six categories of hedonism: folk hedonism (30%), value/prudential hedonism (20%), motivational hedonism (15%), normative hedonism (12.5%), utilitarian hedonism (12.5%), and egoist hedonism (10%). Among these, folk hedonism is the most dominant, particularly in Antony and Cleopatra’s pursuit of love and passion without considering the consequences for their political roles. The research shows that Antony and Cleopatra reflects how the pursuit of personal pleasure can shape character development, create conflict, and even lead to tragedy, illustrating timeless patterns where short-term desires overshadow long-term responsibilities.

This study aims to explore the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures for immigration services at TPI Tanjung Priok Port and examine its impact on service effectiveness in Indonesia's maritime sector. The research employed a qualitative approach to analyse the gap between formal SOP guidelines and on-the-ground practices, examining internal and external factors, including resource limitations, technological constraints, and inter-agency coordination issues. The findings reveal significant disparities that lead to both positive and negative discretion amongst frontline Immigration officers, influencing service consistency, efficiency, and transparency. Negative discretion results in procedural deviations that compromise reliability and potentially foster corruption, delays, and inefficiencies. In contrast, positive discretion emerges as adaptive responses indicating weaknesses in SOP design or infrastructure. The study concludes that enhancing frontline officers' competence, motivation, and accountability is essential for achieving desired outcomes, whilst integrating technological solutions such as digital documentation and real-time monitoring is vital for streamlined, transparent, and accountable procedures. Improving SOP adherence, coupled with better resource allocation and inter-institutional cooperation, can significantly reduce vessel turnaround times, lower logistics costs, and bolster maritime competitiveness. The research advocates for dedicated training programmes, supervisory systems, and technological innovations to ensure SOP compliance, minimise discretion-driven deviations, and promote accountability, thereby optimising maritime service delivery and supporting Indonesia's strategic maritime development objectives.

This study, titled “Happiness According to Hamka and Its Relevance to Efforts to Overcome Mental Distress,” is motivated by the increasing mental strain experienced by modern society, which is reflected in rising levels of stress, anxiety, loss of life meaning, and various forms of depression. These symptoms indicate a deeper spiritual and emotional imbalance that cannot be resolved solely through clinical approaches, but requires insights from philosophical and religious thought. The purpose of this research is to reexamine Hamka’s concept of happiness and identify its relevance in supporting efforts to reduce mental distress in contemporary life. Using a qualitative-descriptive method with a library research approach, this study reviews Hamka’s key writings such as Tasawuf Modern, Falsafah Hidup, and Lembaga Budi alongside literature on psychology and mental health. Through a hermeneutic-philosophical analysis, the study finds that Hamka defines happiness as inner tranquility rooted in faith, sincerity, and spiritual connection with God, rather than material satisfaction or outward pleasures. He emphasizes that true happiness is achieved when intellect, emotion, and faith interact harmoniously, allowing individuals to manage desires, accept destiny, and uphold moral awareness. This perspective is highly relevant for addressing mental distress today, as Hamka highlights the importance of spiritual strengthening and purification of the soul as forms of internal healing capable of fostering resilience and emotional stability.

The absence of a father or fatherlessness in a family is a serious problem that affects children's social, psychological, and educational development. This condition becomes even more complex when experienced by street children who live in limited economic conditions and lack family support. The purpose of this study is to reveal the social life of street children on Jalan Krakatau Ujung, Medan Deli District, find the factors that cause fatherlessness, and study the consequences. This study is a qualitative study conducted through a descriptive approach. Data were collected through documentation and in-depth interviews with street children, parents, and community leaders. The results of the study show that the factors causing fatherlessness include divorce, abandonment, and the death of the father. Fathers may also migrate or engage in deviant behavior, such as drug abuse. Children without parents have visible impacts in the form of psychological vulnerability, such as loneliness, lack of self-control, and lack of self-confidence; social impacts, such as difficulty socializing, vulnerability to bullying and exploitation; and educational impacts, such as lack of desire to learn and limited access to education. The lives of street children at the traffic light intersection on Jalan Krakatau Ujung show weak family functioning, especially the role of the father, which encourages children to earn their own living from an early age.

This study explores the influence of childhood memories, particularly the experience of "unresolved revenge" in the form of a failed tricycle ownership, on the process of creating works of art. This phenomenon is analyzed through the lens of psychoanalysis and consumerism criticism, where childhood fantasies transform into an obsession with collecting in adulthood, as an outlet for powerful passionate sensations. Qualitatively, works of art are positioned not only as manifestations of personal expression, but also as sustainable and critical practices. The articulation of art becomes a way to resolve consumerist trauma in a non-physical way, transforming the urge for unsustainable material accumulation (the infatuation of collecting) into artistic output that reflects and critiques the symbolic prestige value of commodities in the 1980s. This study concludes that personal memory-based art practices offer a sustainable framework for psychological recovery and social critique of the endless cycle of material desires.

Consumptive behavior refers to the tendency of individuals to purchase goods or services excessively, driven not by need but by the desire for personal satisfaction. University students are particularly vulnerable to such behavior, especially given the ease of access to e-commerce platforms and limitations in personal financial management. Pocket money received and students’ level of financial literacy are key factors shaping their consumption patterns. This study analyzes the effects of e-commerce, pocket money, and financial literacy on the consumptive behavior of undergraduate students in the Development Economics Study Program at Udayana University. A quantitative approach was employed, using a survey of 90 respondents selected through stratified random sampling. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results show that, jointly, e-commerce, pocket money, and financial literacy significantly affect students’ consumptive behavior. Partially, e-commerce and pocket money have positive effects, whereas financial literacy has a negative effect. This indicates that higher financial literacy reduces the tendency toward consumptive behavior.

Solid Dwipantara is a micro, small, and medium enterprise engaged in the custom furniture business located in the Denpasar area. In terms of marketing, the partner has not yet optimally utilized digital technology and still relies on repeat orders, or in other words, orders that come mostly from customers who have used the partner's services before and also from direct recommendations from customers to potential new customers. For furniture design, the partner still uses manual methods by drawing designs on paper for the size and model of furniture desired by customers. This greatly affects the accuracy of the size and model after production because there may be differences between the final product and the initial design desired by the customer, so sometimes the finished product has to be redone. The partner also lacks understanding in utilizing digital technology to find and obtain the latest custom furniture models and designs that keep up with the times. The partner needs a digital marketing medium and assistance in utilizing digital technology to support the product design process
