This study explores the impact of local culture on the internationalization process of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), especially statue craftsmen in Trowulan, East Java. MSMEs in Indonesia face various challenges, including low productivity and access to technology. However, statue craftsmen in Trowulan are able to utilize the richness of Majapahit culture to differentiate their products in the global market. Using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews and participant observation, this study found that local culture not only plays a role as a product identity, but also as a strategy to attract international consumers. Adaptation to the needs of the global market, especially in Europe, shows the ability of craftsmen to innovate and collaborate. This study provides important insights into how the integration of local culture can improve the competitiveness of MSMEs in the era of globalization, and offers recommendations to support the development of MSMEs through cultural preservation and skills improvement. This study analyzes the level of economic development disparity among regions in East Java Province during the period 2009–2023 using the Klassen Typology approach. The study aims to map the classification of regions based on economic growth rates and per capita GRDP to identify spatial disparities among the 38 districts/cities in the province. The analysis results indicate significant inequality, with regions such as Surabaya, Sidoarjo, and Gresik consistently categorized as advanced and rapidly growing areas (Quadrant I), while regions such as Sampang, Pamekasan, and Bondowoso fall into the underdeveloped category (Quadrant IV). This phenomenon shows that the economic spillover effect from growth centers to surrounding regions remains suboptimal and suggests the need for spatially-based policy interventions. This study provides important implications for formulating more inclusive regional development policies and recommends further quantitative analysis to identify the determinants of inequality in greater depth.

In the last ten years, Indonesia has been carrying out massive infrastructure development. The goal is to facilitate community mobility which has an impact on economic growth. Infrastructure development also aims to increase the Human Development Index even though it does not directly affect it. One of the provinces that contributed to infrastructure development was East Java, with the Human Development Index during the 2018-2022 period increasing and tending to stagnate. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to identify the influence of infrastructure development on the Human Development Index, including identifying the influence of poverty on the Human Development Index. The research methodology used is quantitative with  a Geographically Weighted Panel Regression (GWPR) approach that allows to comprehensively identify the Regional Development Index in East Java. The results obtained were that the variables of Infrastructure Development with the dimensions of Road Length (6,172) and Number of Schools (2,686) had an impact on the Human Development Index in East Java. Meanwhile, the poverty variable (-6,139) has no effect on the Human Development Index (HDI). However, simultaneously the variables of Infrastructure Development and Poverty affect the National Development Index (HDI) with a calculation of 64.42 > 2.4202.

This study examines the influence of servant leadership and organizational citizenship behavior on the performance of the Inter-Village Cooperation Agency (BKAD) in East Java through a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. Using a sample of 100 BKAD selected by cluster proportional random sampling, the study collected data from multiple informants through structured questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the Partial Least Squares (PLS) approach. The results showed that servant leadership had a significant positive effect on organizational performance (β = 0.366, p < 0.001), with organizational citizenship behavior partially mediating the relationship. Servant leadership was proven to have a positive effect on organizational citizenship behavior (β = 0.293, p = 0.021), which in turn had a positive effect on performance (β = 0.216, p = 0.001). The research findings affirm the importance of servant leadership and organizational citizenship behavior in enhancing the performance of empowerment institutions, which encourages the development of innovative empowerment methods, adaptive training curriculum design, and facilitation of public service-oriented leadership, with recommendations for further research using longitudinal designs and broader geographic coverage.

Social and economic welfare reflects the quality of life in a region and is influenced by local social, economic, and environmental factors. East Java, as the second most populous province in Indonesia, faces challenges in improving the welfare of its residents, particularly due to varying regional characteristics such as employment, education, and population demographics. To understand the patterns of interrelationships among factors affecting welfare, this study conducted a klaster analysis to group regions based on similar characteristics. The klaster analysis employed both hierarchical (complete linkage) and non-hierarchical (K-means) approaches to determine the optimal number of klasters. The results revealed that the level of diversity across regions in East Java tends to be homogeneous in social and economic aspects, with average values exceeding standard deviations. Assumption tests for the klaster analysis confirmed that the data met the assumptions of multivariate normal distribution and dependency.Through hierarchical (complete linkage) and non-hierarchical (K-means) klaster analysis, two main klasters were formed, dividing districts/cities in East Java based on welfare characteristics. Using the complete linkage method, 27 regions were grouped into klaster 1, and 11 regions into klaster 2, while K-means grouped 26 regions into klaster 1 and 12 regions into klaster 2. Out of the six variables used, one variable was found to be insignificant in influencing the klastering results. Based on the mapping results, the grouping aligns with similar criteria, where urban areas predominantly fall into one klaster, and the other klaster is dominated by rural areas.

The Halal Industrial Estate (HIE) in East Java has enormous potential to capitalize on the global trend of increasing demand for halal products. As a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia is expected to seize this opportunity through regulations that support the development of HZs, which can not only improve the competitiveness of local products but also expected to contribute to overall economic growth. However, challenges in the development of HEC need to be overcome through close cooperation between the government, industry players, and the community. Socialization of the importance of halal certification and its benefits for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) should also be improved to motivate business actors. This study takes a qualitative approach and literature review to understand how government regulations can support the development of the halal industry in Sidoarjo. The findings show that with the right regulations, KIH can function as a halal industry center that meets local needs and can compete in the global market. The strategic steps recommended by the government include increasing local production capacity, strengthening the halal ecosystem from upstream to downstream, and creating a competitive market environment. With these strategic steps, it is expected that East Java can optimize its role in the halal industry.
