This research aims to create batik tulis motifs with inspiration from three main plantation commodities in North Labuhanbatu Regency, North Sumatra, namely palm oil, rubber, and cocoa. These three plants are not only economically important, but also have philosophical values that can be raised as visual and cultural wealth in the form of batik motifs. The method used in the creation of the work consists of three stages, namely exploration, design, and realization. Exploration is done through literature study, direct observation, and visual documentation of the morphology of the three plants. The design stage involved the stilation and deformation of the plant forms into batik motif designs. Furthermore, the realization stage was carried out using the written batik technique using canting on mori cloth. The research resulted in 12 written batik works that combine elements of aesthetics, philosophy of life, and the locality value of the Labuhanbatu Utara community. This research is expected to enrich the repertoire of contemporary batik design while supporting cultural preservation and the development of local wisdom-based creative industries.

This research aims to explore the visual potential of the goldfish as a source of inspiration in the creation of hand-drawn batik works by incorporating traditional Mandailing ornaments. The goldfish was selected due to its strong symbolic meaning in local culture, representing luck, prosperity, and happiness. Meanwhile, Mandailing ornaments rich in philosophical and aesthetic cultural values serve as supporting elements that strengthen the visual identity of the work. The creative method used in this study follows the approach proposed by Husen Hendriyana, consisting of four stages: preparation, imagination (exploration), development of imagination (design), and realization (execution). The creative process involves illustrating the form of the goldfish combined harmoniously with distinctive Mandailing motifs such as bona bolu, bindu pusuk ni robung, burangir/aropik, sipatomu-tomu, bintang na toras, rudang, raga-raga, sancang duri, jagar-jagar, bondul na opat, tagan, bintang dohot tolu lingkaran, timbangan, podang, gancip, takar, pinggan, mataniari, horis, loding/upak, bintang, alaman bolak, parbincar mataniari, gimbang, lotus flower, and gumbot. The outcome of this research consists of 12 hand-drawn batik artworks applied as wall decorations using a contemporary approach. These works function both aesthetically and educationally, as well as decoratively. The artworks are expected to contribute to the development of hand-drawn batik as a visual art form that adapts to modern times, while also promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Mandailing through a broader visual format.

This study evaluates the implementation of water source conservation and conservation forest policies in Tuban Regency that integrate collaborative methods between various parties and local wisdom. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with staff from the Environmental Service, representatives of environmental NGOs, traditional leaders, and local communities, coupled with field observations related to the “Adopt a Spring” and “Forest School” programs. The results of the study indicate that the success of the policy is not only supported by local regulations, but also by collaboration involving the government, local communities, the private sector, and educational institutions. Local wisdom, such as the “nyadran sumber” ceremony and traditional protected forest methods, increase the legitimacy and effectiveness of environmental protection. However, obstacles arise as a result of lack of funds, economic pressures, and changes in values among the younger generation. This study suggests sustainability education and cross-sector collaboration forums, strengthening sustainable economic schemes based on ecotourism and agroforestry, and contextual environmental education to maintain the sustainability of the program. These results confirm that conservation policies integrated with local wisdom and cross-sector collaboration can be an innovative model for other regions, while strengthening the paradigm of sustainable development that is responsive to the existing socio-cultural context.

This study aims to analyze the symbolic meanings contained in the lyrics of the song “One Last Breath” by the band Creed using Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic theory. The song was selected due to its strong themes of existential crisis, despair, and hope, which are expressed through rich and meaningful linguistic signs. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive, employing Peirce’s triadic model of signs—icon, index, and symbol—as the basis of data analysis. The primary data source consists of selected lyrics, which were examined to identify the types of signs and their interpreted meanings. The findings reveal that the song's lyrics are filled with emotional symbols reflecting the protagonist's psychological condition, such as the phrase “six feet” as an icon of death, “falling” as an index of mental collapse, and “last breath” as a symbol of the remaining hope. The song also represents Western cultural values related to openness about mental health issues. It is concluded that “One Last Breath” functions not only as a musical work but also as a reflective medium that conveys profound messages about the human struggle and existential meaning. This study is expected to contribute to the development of semiotic analysis in music lyrics and inspire future research on other musical genre.

Social media has become a new cultural space for teenagers to express themselves, interact socially, and form a self-image online. Trend culture on social media has become an important phenomenon in the dynamics of digital communication, especially among teenagers and the younger generation. Trend culture is a fluid cultural space where values, norms and identities are constantly negotiated through virtual interactions. Rapidly evolving trends through platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube not only reflect lifestyle changes, but also become a means of self-expression, identity formation, and the search for social validation. This research aims to analyze how adolescent identity is represented through trend culture on social media in interaction patterns, meaning construction, and user self-representation. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of digital observation of active teenage users of the Instagram and TikTok platforms. This research uses a qualitative method with Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis approach to examine the meanings of visual and narrative signs in the 2025 Marjan Ramadan commercial. This advertisement was selected due to its rich symbolic elements and its significant role in shaping public perception and emotion during the holy month. Utilizing Barthes’ concepts of denotation, connotation, and myth, this study aims to uncover hidden meanings behind visual elements such as colors, lighting, character gestures, and storyline narration. Preliminary findings indicate that the Marjan advertisement not only promotes a syrup product but also encapsulates values of togetherness, tradition, and religiosity through cinematic visuals. Symbols like family dining tables, drums (bedug), and twilight lighting are interpreted as modern myths portraying an idealized Ramadan that is warm and harmonious. Therefore, this advertisement can be viewed as a form of cultural communication that conveys ideological messages through visual symbols familiar to Indonesian society.

Pancasila, as the national ideology of Indonesia, plays a crucial role in shaping the character and behavior of society. However, in recent decades, the implementation of Pancasila's values has faced significant challenges due to social inequalities and the impacts of globalization. Social and cultural changes brought about by globalization, such as individualism and hedonism, threaten the core principles of Pancasila, such as mutual cooperation, tolerance, and social justice. As the next generation, students are expected to become agents of change by implementing the values of Pancasila in society. However, despite the principles of Pancasila being outlined in various policies, many practices still contradict these values. Therefore, there is a need for greater efforts to instill a deeper and more practical understanding of Pancasila in order to create a harmonious, just society in accordance with the guidelines of Pancasila. The Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) project in Batukuwung Village, Padarincang District, Serang Regency, has raised concerns among the community about the threat of environmental damage and the disruption of the sustainability of local agricultural systems. During this time, the community relies on traditional agriculture that is closely tied to local social, cultural and ecological values. This research aims to assess the social and ecological impacts of the PLTP project on the lives of village communities. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study, through purposive sampling techniques for in-depth interviews with affected residents, as well as online media analysis. The results show that the presence of the project has created ecological and social vulnerabilities, especially disruptions to water and land access, and narrowed the space for community participation in decision-making. The findings show that the clean energy narrative is not always in line with the reality on the ground. This research emphasizes the importance of the principles of ecological justice and local community sovereignty in energy development policies, especially in areas that depend on natural sustainability.

This study explores the relationship between religiosity and Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) within contemporary organizations by adopting a positive psychology perspective. OCB is defined as discretionary behaviors by employees that go beyond their formal job duties and contribute positively to the overall functioning and success of the organization. Examples include helping colleagues, being punctual, and demonstrating initiative, which foster a cooperative and productive work environment. Religiosity, on the other hand, is understood as a belief system that shapes an individual’s values, attitudes, and behaviors, both intrinsically—stemming from internal spiritual commitment—and extrinsically—motivated by external social or cultural influences. Through a systematic review of ten national and international academic journals, this study identifies several common dimensions of OCB, such as altruism (helping others selflessly), civic virtue (active and responsible participation in organizational affairs), and conscientiousness (going beyond minimal job requirements). The findings reveal a consistent positive correlation between religiosity and OCB, especially in sectors like education, Islamic banking, and healthcare, where religious principles strongly influence organizational culture. The integration of religious values into organizational practices encourages employees to exhibit behaviors that promote harmony, ethical conduct, and a sense of community within the workplace. This is particularly evident in employees who possess high levels of intrinsic religiosity, as their internalized beliefs motivate them to engage in prosocial actions that benefit the organization. The study recommends that human resource management strategies incorporate religious or spiritual values to cultivate a positive organizational culture. Such integration can be achieved through training programs, leadership development, and reward systems that emphasize ethical behavior and social responsibility, ultimately leading to improved employee satisfaction, loyalty, and overall organizational performance.

Obesity in women of childbearing age is a growing health problem, not only due to dietary patterns and lack of physical activity, but also due to the influence of social and cultural factors. This study aims to gain a deeper understanding of the experiences, perspectives, and habits of women of reproductive age who are obese within the context of local social and cultural norms. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, data was collected through in-depth interviews with five primary informants who are obese, as well as triangulation informants from community health workers and healthcare professionals. The results of the study indicate that perceptions of obesity are still predominantly viewed from the perspective of physical appearance rather than health. Social factors such as family eating patterns, snacking habits, comments from others, and lack of physical activity are triggers for obesity. Meanwhile, local culture has a varied influence—some communities are beginning to adopt slim body ideals, while others remain neutral. Obesity also impacts self-confidence, social stigma, and limitations in daily activities. However, most informants expressed hope for a healthier life. This study recommends interventions that consider local cultural values and involve family and community support in obesity prevention effort.

This study examines the implementation of the Sigalovada Sutta as a form of ancestral devotion within the Nyadran Dauwang tradition practiced by the Buddhist community in Depok Hamlet, Java. Grounded in the understanding that religion and culture are deeply intertwined, the research aims to explore how Buddhist doctrinal values are actualized through local communal rituals and how these practices contribute to social cohesion, environmental stewardship, and cultural continuity. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with religious leaders, elders, and community members, and analysis of ritual documentation. Triangulation of methods and sources was applied to enhance the credibility and depth of interpretation. The findings reveal that Nyadran Dauwang consists of four interrelated components: communal cleaning of irrigation canals (Susuk Wangang), ritual journeys accompanied by offerings and food sharing, interfaith prayer gatherings, and Wayang Kulit performances. These practices embody key Buddhist values such as spiritual friendship, loving-kindness, compassion, ethical reciprocity, and collective merit-making, as articulated in the Sigalovada Sutta. The tradition also reinforces respect for ancestors, strengthens intergenerational bonds, promotes ecological awareness, and fosters harmony in a pluralistic religious setting. Rather than functioning as a rigid doctrinal text, the Sigalovada Sutta operates as a living ethical framework that guides communal life through culturally resonant forms. In conclusion, the study demonstrates that Nyadran Dauwang represents a contextualized enactment of Buddhist ethics that integrates religious teachings with local cultural heritage. This integration offers an important model for Buddhist religious education, cultural preservation, and community-based approaches to social and environmental sustainability.
