This study examines in depth the history and development of Kaing Lunggi—the local term for songket cloth—in the Sambas region, West Kalimantan. This study has two main focuses. First, tracing the history of the cloth and textile trade in Southeast Asia that became the background for the entry of external influences into the Sambas region. Second, understanding how Kaing Lunggi emerged, developed, and transformed within the social, economic, and cultural contexts of the local community. Using a historical approach and textile cultural analysis, this study positions Kaing Lunggi as a cultural product born from the dynamics of regional trade since the Sambas Sultanate era. Historical records show that trade networks during that period connected Sambas with major trading centers such as Malacca, Singapore, and the coastal areas of Borneo. Through this route, there was an exchange of raw materials, weaving techniques, and decorative motifs that were then adapted by local artisans. The process of aculturation is visible in Kaing Lunggi motifs that combine local elements with external influences, such as typical Indonesian flora and fauna combined with geometric patterns and typical Malay stylization. The songket weaving technique demonstrates high skill and has been passed down through generations, making it an important part of intangible cultural heritage. Besides its economic value as a trade commodity, Kaing Lunggi also holds a symbolic role. It is worn in various traditional ceremonies, religious celebrations, and as a marker of social status in Sambas society. The use of color, gold thread, and the complexity of the motifs serve as indicators of the wearer's identity and prestige. The results of this study confirm that traditional textiles such as Kaing Lunggi function not only as cultural artifacts but also as active agents in shaping the history and identity of the community. They represent cross-cultural encounters and serve as evidence of the resilience of local traditions amidst globalization.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of substituting vinegar with pomegranate juice (PJ) on the physicochemical characteristics, sensory quality, and antioxidant activity of mayonnaise. The mayonnaise was formulated into five treatments with varying concentrations of vinegar and PJ. The analyzed parameters included pH, color (L*, a*, b*), viscosity, emulsion stability, and sensory attributes (taste, aroma, color, texture, and preference), while antioxidant activity was assessed in the best formulation. The results showed that increasing the PJ substitution significantly improved viscosity and emulsion stability, decreased lightness (L*), and enhanced the red hue (a*). The P4 formulation (containing 2.75% PJ) demonstrated the best overall performance, with high viscosity, excellent emulsion stability, and also receiving high sensory scores. Antioxidant analysis revealed that P4 had higher antioxidant activity compared to the control (P0). Therefore, PJ has the potential to serve as a natural alternative to vinegar in mayonnaise production while enhancing the product's stability and functional value.

This study uses a feminist literary criticism approach to analyze Ferena Debivena's short story “The Woman Who Bears the Shadow.”  To investigate the type of gender inequality experienced by Lara, the main character, this research focuses on three schools of feminism: marxist, social, and liberal.  The research used a descriptive qualitative approach, which involved text analysis of the symbolism and narrative structure of the story. The results show that Lara is portrayed as a woman who faces social and emotional challenges due to economic pressure and patriarchal domination.  In addition, the short story criticizes forced marriage and educational injustice for women.  Despite the strength of its theme, this short story can still be improved by the elements of deepening supporting characters, a clear plot, and strengthening the climax.  Therefore, it shows the social reality and serves as a medium to criticize the system that oppresses women.

The demand for chocolate continues to increase along with high public consumption. One of the main components in chocolate formulation is fat, which generally comes from cocoa butter. However, the availability of cocoa butter is limited and the price is relatively high, so a more economical and easily obtained substitute material is needed locally to support the sustainability of the chocolate industry. This study aims to examine the potential of palm oil fractions, especially palm stearin and olein, as a partial substitute for cocoa butter (Cocoa Butter Substitute/CBS) in chocolate formulations. The study was conducted through a literature review of scientific journals published in the last 10 years, which included chemical, physical, and sensory analysis data on palm oil-based chocolate products. The results of the study showed that stearin increased the melting point and firmness of the product, while olein produced a softer texture and a smoother melting sensation. Sensorially, olein-based formulations showed a higher level of acceptance than stearin, especially in color, aroma, taste, and texture attributes. In addition, palm oil fractions do not produce trans fats, and are able to maintain the balance of solid and liquid fats, while supporting the stability of the product emulsion. This study shows that palm oil fractions, especially through the right combination of stearin and olein, have great potential as a substitute for cocoa butter without reducing physical or sensory quality, thus supporting the sustainability of chocolate production in the future.

This paper examines the life struggles of Javed Khan, a second-generation Pakistani immigrant in the United Kingdom in Blinded by Light film. Culturally, as a Pakistani-British, Javed lives in two worlds, i.e., the old world belonging to his parents and his current world, the world he is living in, i.e., the British society and culture. To analyze this topic, the textual content analysis is employed. As for the theoretical framework, Hall’s concept of identity and some works of literature on discrimination are of importance. The result of the analysis shows that Javed’s journey reveals the challenges and pressures of adaptation and acculturation faced by second-generation immigrants in general, illustrating how the tension between intergenerational expectations often creates tension and fosters growth and understanding in a multicultural context. Javed is torn between the values of the home country his father holds and the values of the new country. In addition, the discrimination experienced by Malik Khan’s family reflects the experience of immigrant families in a broader context. The film encourages viewers to reflect on the societal expectations of immigrants to conform to the host society and culture, while also showcasing the importance of individual aspirations and self-expression.

Film serves not only as entertainment but also as a medium for conveying messages through verbal interactions between characters. In pragmatics, illocutionary acts are central to understanding a speaker’s intention within a given context. This study aims to describe and analyze the types and functions of illocutionary speech acts in the Indonesian film Komang (2025) by Naya Anindita, which portrays a love story across religious and cultural boundaries. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation and transcription of dialogue from the film. The analysis is based on Searle’s classification of illocutionary acts: representatives, directives, expressives, commissives, and declaratives. The findings reveal that all five types appear in the film, each playing a role in shaping interpersonal dynamics, emotional tension, and cultural values. Directive and expressive acts are the most dominant, reflecting intense emotional exchanges and social interactions. Commissive and declarative acts highlight commitment and authority, contributing to the narrative progression and cultural identity negotiation. The study concludes that illocutionary acts in films can represent social conflicts and cultural expressions, and recommends further research on other films with varied genres and contexts. The integration of multimodal elements is also suggested to enrich the analysis of meaning in audiovisual texts.

The phenomenon of money politics in the perspective of hadith and how the practice undermines the principles of justice, trustworthiness, and integrity in the democratic system, this study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with text analysis of relevant hadiths, and contextually studied in the frame of maqashid sharia. The results of the study show that money politics is included in the category of risywah (bribery) which is forbidden in Islam, as mentioned in various traditions of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. This practice has serious impacts, including damage to the government system, loss of legitimacy of leaders, and threats to social stability. Therefore, Islam emphasizes the importance of rejecting money politics as part of the moral and spiritual responsibility of the people. Moral education, the role of religious leaders, and strengthening regulations are important parts of the prevention strategy. This research recommends a synergy between state institutions and religious institutions in building a clean, fair, and political system based on Islamic ethics.
