This qualitative case study investigated the factors and impacts of English language learning anxiety among students at SMP Muhammadiyah Tanjungpinang. The research focused on students from the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades during the academic year 2024/2025. A total of 32 students across all grade levels were involved in the study. The researchers initially conducted classroom observations to identify students who exhibited signs of anxiety during English lessons. Based on these observations, eleven students were selected as participants for semi-structured interviews and more detailed classroom observations. The research aimed to explore how anxiety manifests in the classroom and how it affects students' language acquisition in a unique socio-educational environment. The data collected through interviews and observations were analyzed qualitatively by interpreting students’ responses and behavioral patterns in class. The findings revealed that three primary types of language anxiety—Communication Apprehension, Test Anxiety, and Fear of Negative Evaluation—were commonly experienced by the students. These forms of anxiety were often interconnected, compounding the emotional barriers students faced in English learning. One of the key contributing factors was the students’ fear of peer ridicule, especially within a tightly bonded student community. Many of the participants were affiliated with orphanages connected to the school, which created a unique emotional and social environment. This setting, while supportive in many ways, also contributed to heightened sensitivity to peer judgment and a strong fear of making mistakes. As a result, the affective filter among these students was notably high, significantly hindering their willingness to participate and ultimately affecting their English language acquisition.

In addition to the main aspects of teacher competency, the study also emphasizes the importance of leadership and institutional support in the effective implementation of policies. The school leadership plays a crucial role in creating a conducive environment for professional development, fostering a culture of collaboration among teachers, and ensuring the implementation of competency-based assessments. It was found that the active involvement of the principal in monitoring and providing feedback to teachers significantly contributes to the continuous improvement of teaching practices. The study also highlights the importance of aligning teacher competency development with the school's educational goals and objectives. While some teachers have demonstrated significant improvement in their teaching methods and student engagement, others still require more support to fully integrate the competencies into their daily practices. The continuous professional development of teachers is therefore vital to ensure that the competencies are not only understood but also consistently applied in the classroom. Moreover, the study recognizes the critical role of community and parental involvement in enhancing the quality of education. Collaboration between the school, parents, and the local community can create a more supportive learning environment, ensuring that students receive the necessary resources and encouragement both at school and at home. In conclusion, the research suggests that while the implementation of teacher competency policies at SDN 2 Lubuk Seberuk has shown positive results, the process should be supported with more training opportunities, resource allocation, and consistent monitoring to overcome existing challenges.

The South Korean entertainment industry, propelled by the global Hallyu wave, continues to thrive internationally. However, it remains influenced by deeply rooted patriarchal norms, especially in the portrayal of women in popular media. This study explores the representation of women in the film K-Pop Demon Hunters (2025) through the lens of Luce Irigaray’s postmodern feminist theory (1985). Using a qualitative content analysis approach, the research investigates the film’s visual, narrative, and symbolic dimensions to examine how female characters are depicted. Unlike the traditional portrayal of passive femininity prevalent in Korean popular culture, K-Pop Demon Hunters presents its female protagonists as active, autonomous, and empowered individuals. These characters express their identities through bodily performance, voice, dance, and emotion—an embodiment of écriture féminine, or feminine writing. The film introduces a symbolic language that allows women to speak from their own experiences, disrupting the male-dominated narrative structures often seen in mainstream media. Additionally, the film challenges patriarchal conventions by offering subversive and multifaceted representations of women’s bodies, relationships, and agency. Rather than reinforcing objectifying tropes, it constructs a space where feminine identity is fluid, expressive, and resistant to hegemonic definitions. This approach not only redefines the role of women within the cinematic narrative but also opens possibilities for alternative gender discourses in Korean media. In doing so, K-Pop Demon Hunters exemplifies how popular media can serve as both a mirror and a critique of societal gender norms.

This study explores the effectiveness of role play as a teaching method to enhance students' speaking skills in professional secretarial contexts, specifically in business telephone conversations, presentations, and negotiations. The research was conducted within the Diploma III Secretarial Program over one academic semester. Employing a qualitative methodology, the study involved classroom observations and student reflections gathered through feedback sessions. The objective was to assess how role play could contribute to the development of fluency, confidence, and contextual language use in English for specific professional purposes. The findings revealed that role play significantly improved students' speaking performance. Students showed greater confidence in expressing ideas, improved fluency, and a better understanding of appropriate vocabulary and expressions suited to professional environments. Furthermore, students expressed that the interactive and practical nature of role play made learning more enjoyable and less intimidating, allowing them to immerse themselves in real-life communication scenarios. These positive experiences encouraged active participation and increased motivation to learn English for professional use. The study also highlighted the value of reflective learning, as students were able to identify their own progress and areas for improvement. Through continuous engagement in simulated professional tasks, learners developed better adaptability in communication and exhibited more natural conversational flow during tasks that mirrored real workplace situations. In conclusion, the role play method proves to be a highly effective pedagogical tool for enhancing speaking skills in secretarial English. It not only helps build linguistic competence but also cultivates soft skills necessary for professional communication. Therefore, it is recommended that educators incorporate role play regularly in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) curricula to maximize its benefits in developing productive speaking abilities among students.

The digital era has revolutionized educational systems, making digital literacy a vital competency for the 21st century. As such, educational administration plays a pivotal role in driving digital transformation within schools. This study used a qualitative approach with a multi-case study design, examining 20 secondary schools to assess how effective educational administration practices contribute to the sustainable implementation of digital literacy programs. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews with 60 educational administrators, participant observations, and the analysis of policy documents. The findings reveal that educational administration, when proactive, collaborative, and data-driven, significantly boosts student digital literacy. In fact, schools employing these practices experienced an improvement in digital literacy by up to 65% within two years of program implementation. The success of these programs was largely attributed to key factors such as visionary leadership, strategic allocation of resources, continuous teacher capacity development, and robust monitoring systems. Additionally, the research highlights the importance of a comprehensive approach to digital literacy, where educational leaders understand the interconnections between various administrative functions and their impact on digital education. This includes integrating strategic planning, operational execution, developmental efforts, evaluation processes, and collaborative work between teachers and administrators. In response to these findings, the study proposes the Integrated Digital Literacy Administration Model (MALDT). This model offers a framework that can be adapted by educational institutions to enhance learning quality in the digital age. It emphasizes the need for a holistic approach to digital literacy administration, combining leadership vision with operational efficiency and continuous professional development. Ultimately, the adoption of such a model can help schools foster an environment where digital literacy is embedded into the core educational experience, ensuring students are adequately prepared for the challenges of the digital era.

Teachers face complex emotional challenges in the workplace, particularly when dealing with the dynamic nature of Generation Z students. Without adequate emotional regulation skills, teachers are at risk of prolonged stress and burnout. This community service activity aims to improve teachers' emotional regulation skills through training based on Gross's (2003) theory, which includes techniques for recognizing, managing, and responding to emotions adaptively. The activity was conducted at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Palembang and attended by 30 teachers. The training method included delivering material and practicing emotional regulation in six structured sessions. Results showed that participants were enthusiastic, actively engaged in the practice, and acknowledged their increased understanding and skills in managing negative emotions. Participant reflections indicated that the training helped maintain mental health and increased readiness to face work pressure. In addition, the sessions fostered a supportive environment where teachers could share their emotional experiences and develop mutual empathy. Feedback from participants emphasized the relevance of emotional regulation in daily teaching tasks, including classroom management, dealing with students’ behavior, and interacting with colleagues and parents. However, challenges remain in implementing emotional regulation due to minimal institutional support and limited follow-up programs. Therefore, it is important for this type of training to be integrated into teacher professional development programs and supported by school policies. This activity demonstrates that strengthening teachers' emotional aspects is a strategic step in improving the overall quality of education. Future efforts should involve collaboration with school leadership to institutionalize emotional support mechanisms and conduct longitudinal evaluations to measure sustained impact. Overall, the training offers a promising model for enhancing teacher well-being and professional resilience in demanding educational environments.

As shipping activities through various modes of transportation increase, the need for adequate understanding of dangerous goods is becoming increasingly important, especially among the younger generation. Unfortunately, many students still do not understand the classification and risks associated with transporting these goods. This community service activity aims to increase awareness and understanding of high school students in the Philippines regarding the classification of dangerous goods and the importance of safety in the shipping process. The activity was carried out through an interactive outreach method that included visual presentations, case studies, and simple simulations to make the material easier to understand and apply. The material provided refers to international standards, namely the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code and ICAO Technical Instructions (ICAO-TI), which are important references in the classification and handling of dangerous goods globally. Evaluation was carried out through pre-tests and post-tests to measure the level of student understanding before and after the activity. The results showed a significant increase in students' ability to recognize symbols, types of dangerous goods, and initial actions to be taken when faced with these goods. These findings confirm that the right educational approach can increase early awareness among students as potential actors in the logistics chain. It is hoped that similar programs can be implemented widely and sustainably in various educational institutions to minimize the risk of sending dangerous goods due to a lack of public knowledge.

This paper examines how The Picture Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde marks a critical turn in which he critiques late-Victorian upper-class privilege and moral immunity. While previous scholarship has predominantly analyzed the novel as a moral allegory or aesthetic treatise, this study employs cultural materialism as a theoretical framework to demonstrate how Wilde uses Dorian’s isolation of his portrait and subsequent hedonistic experimentation as symbolic representations of the aristocracy’s ability to shield him from moral and social consequences. Wilde’s text reveals how the English aristocracy could embody ideals of beauty and reap princely treatment while committing debauchery without reproach. Through Culler’s close reading method toward this novel, especially chapters eight and nine, this analysis reveals how Dorian’s act of hiding the portrait symbolizes social denial, while his obsessive aesthetic consumption reflects the practices of the leisure class. This shows that Wilde hints Dorian’s social circle accepts his sensual life simply because his appearance remains unmarred–a commentary on class privilege. By examining the specific textual elements and historical context of—especially—chapters eight and nine of this novel, this study contributes to the understanding of how Wilde’s novel serves as both a product of and commentary on the class structures and moral hypocrisy of late-Victorian England.
