As an international language, English plays a crucial role in various aspects of life, ranging from education, career, to cross-cultural communication. In Indonesia, although English has been taught since elementary school level, there are still many students who experience difficulties in English speaking practice. This phenomenon raises concerns among educators and education stakeholders. Many university students have studied English for years but are still reluctant or unconfident to use it in everyday conversation. This reluctance is often referred to as "ignorance" or indifference to the importance of English speaking practice. Various factors can contribute to this problem, including ineffective teaching methods, lack of exposure to the use of English in real contexts, and psychological factors such as language anxiety and fear of making mistakes. Given the importance of English speaking skills in today's globalized world, it is important to delve deeper into the phenomenon of students' indifference in practicing spoken English.

This research is driven by the principles of Project Based Learning (PJBL). PJBL is an educational approach that utilizes real-world problems as the starting point for integrating new knowledge. The research question posed is whether the PJBL method affects motivation and interest in learning English among eleventh-grade students at SMAN 1 Karangrejo. The objective is to examine the impact of PJBL on motivation and interest in English learning at this school. This study employs a quantitative approach, specifically a non-experimental quasi-regression design, with data collection conducted via a questionnaire using purposive sampling. Data analysis involves descriptive statistics to determine mean values, followed by testing for normality assumptions. If the data meets normality criteria, Pearson correlation analysis is used to examine relationships between variables (X and Y1, X and Y2). Additionally, simple linear regression tests the effects of variables Y1 and Y2 on X. The findings indicate that implementing PJBL in English language education for eleventh-grade students is expected to enhance both motivation and interest in learning at SMAN 1 Karangrejo.

The learning process of students can be assessed through evaluation methods. The purpose of this evaluation is to assess learning outcomes as well as to evaluate the learning process. The concept of learning evaluation involves the control, assurance, and establishment of learning quality for all components at various levels and pathways of education, which is the responsibility of educational management. Assessment is the process of using various methods and tools to collect information about specific learning outcomes. Measurement, in English, refers to an action taken to adjust something. The basic way of measuring is by comparing something to a certain standard. Educators provide a series of tasks or questions to students to gauge their understanding and reach an agreement between students and teachers regarding the taught material, in line with current learning objectives, commonly referred to as tests. Therefore, it can be concluded from the table that tests are a benchmark for success in delivering education through educational assessment.
