This research examines the legal protection available to communities affected by land acquisition for public interest development in Indonesia. Although governed primarily by Law No. 2 of 2012 and updated through Law No. 6 of 2023, many legal ambiguities remain, especially regarding the fairness of compensation and the recognition of informal or uncertified land rights. The objective of this study is to critically evaluate the adequacy of these legal frameworks and identify gaps that undermine justice for affected populations. Employing a normative-juridical method, the research conducts doctrinal analysis, comparative law review (with cases from Malaysia and India), and stakeholder consultation to assess both the text and implementation of relevant laws. The study finds that key legal concepts such as “fair and appropriate compensation” remain undefined in statute, leading to inconsistent application across regions. Furthermore, compensation mechanisms such as share ownership and resettlement are inadequately regulated and poorly implemented. The findings emphasize the disparity between normative intent and administrative reality, particularly for holders of uncertified land. By integrating stakeholder feedback with normative evaluation, the research proposes actionable reforms to strengthen legal protection and uphold constitutional guarantees under Article 28H. In conclusion, while Indonesia has made progress in establishing a framework for public interest land acquisition, significant doctrinal and institutional reforms are required to ensure equitable outcomes for all landholders.

The special autonomy granted to Aceh Province allows for the implementation of Islamic criminal law (jinayat), yet challenges remain in law enforcement, particularly against corporations that provide facilities for Jarimah. Despite the enactment of Qanun Number 6 of 2014 on Hukum Jinayat, prosecutions have largely focused on individuals, while companies such as hotels, boarding houses, and cafés frequently escape accountability, even when their facilities are used to commit acts such as khalwat, maisir, and zina. This study aims to examine the enforcement mechanisms targeting such corporate entities within the jurisdiction of Banda Aceh City. Employing empirical legal research methods, the study utilizes qualitative analysis based on field observations, interviews with stakeholders, and a review of legal documents. The findings indicate that law enforcement efforts are hampered by five major factors: vague and incomplete legal provisions; limited knowledge and training among investigators; inadequate human resources and supporting infrastructure; a lack of public support; and deeply rooted cultural practices that often favor informal resolutions over formal prosecution. Despite the legal possibility of corporate liability under the qanun, enforcement remains weak due to unclear definitions, particularly concerning intent and the element of facilitation. The study concludes that the effectiveness of law enforcement in this domain is critically undermined by structural and normative deficiencies. Therefore, reform is urgently needed, including amendments to legal texts, comprehensive investigator training, and public engagement strategies to ensure corporate accountability in supporting the implementation of syari’at Islam in Aceh.

This paper examines how The Picture Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde marks a critical turn in which he critiques late-Victorian upper-class privilege and moral immunity. While previous scholarship has predominantly analyzed the novel as a moral allegory or aesthetic treatise, this study employs cultural materialism as a theoretical framework to demonstrate how Wilde uses Dorian’s isolation of his portrait and subsequent hedonistic experimentation as symbolic representations of the aristocracy’s ability to shield him from moral and social consequences. Wilde’s text reveals how the English aristocracy could embody ideals of beauty and reap princely treatment while committing debauchery without reproach. Through Culler’s close reading method toward this novel, especially chapters eight and nine, this analysis reveals how Dorian’s act of hiding the portrait symbolizes social denial, while his obsessive aesthetic consumption reflects the practices of the leisure class. This shows that Wilde hints Dorian’s social circle accepts his sensual life simply because his appearance remains unmarred–a commentary on class privilege. By examining the specific textual elements and historical context of—especially—chapters eight and nine of this novel, this study contributes to the understanding of how Wilde’s novel serves as both a product of and commentary on the class structures and moral hypocrisy of late-Victorian England.

Literature is born from the human desire to express their existence, which is closely related to the relationship between individuals and with the reality of life. A literary work contains specific intentions and purposes set by the author. Therefore, all aspects of a literary work originate from the author, who plays a crucial role in generating creative ideas that are expressed through their writings. In line with technological advancements, literature has also undergone transformation. One of the indicators of this progress is the emergence of intersemiotic transfer or adaptation, namely the process of changing the medium through which a literary work is presented, such as from text to audiovisual or film. In this context, the researcher examines the adaptation process from novel to film as the object of study. The object of this research is the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, which was later adapted into a film by director Baz Luhrmann, released in 2013 under the same title. The novel portrays the life of the American upper class during the 1920s, an era often referred to as the Roaring Twenties. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method. Qualitative research aims to describe and analyze social phenomena and activities found in the research object. The data were collected through reading, observing, and note-taking techniques, involving both the novel and the film script. This study aims to thoroughly examine the phenomenon of the use of standard and non-standard words found in various types of written texts in public spaces, particularly in promotional media and visual information. The method employed is qualitative descriptive with a content analysis approach. Data were obtained through direct observation of visual elements in public spaces and analyzed with the support of literature from previous studies, including social media posts that reflect the everyday language habits of the community. The study focuses on various visual media such as banners and business signboards that display language use. The results indicate a significant gap between the language rules stipulated in the General Guidelines for Indonesian Spelling (PUEBI) and the Big Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI) and the language practices developed in society. Several factors influencing the use of non-standard words include the community's habitual use of certain forms, the inheritance of habits from previous generations, and the influence of foreign languages and local dialects. The consequences of this phenomenon may include misunderstandings in communication and challenges in maintaining the standard and purity of Indonesian as the national language.

Reading comprehension is a crucial skill in learning English, particularly at the Islamic high school level. Students at this stage are often exposed to lengthy texts, yet they still encounter difficulties in fully understanding the content. This challenge may stem from limited use of interactive learning media and the predominant reliance on traditional media, such as monotonous paper-based worksheets that are less engaging. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of paper worksheets versus Liveworksheet in enhancing reading comprehension among Islamic senior high school students. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with two classes: an experimental group and a control group. Data collection involved pre-tests and post-tests using Islamic-themed reading materials. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software version 25 for Windows, employing paired sample t-tests and effect size calculations to assess the impact of the treatments. Results indicated that the mean post-test score for the experimental group (92.47) exceeded that of the control group (73.63), with the difference being statistically significant (p < 0.05). This suggests that Liveworksheet is more effective than traditional paper worksheets in improving reading comprehension. The effect size, measured using Eta Squared (η² = 0.869), showed a substantial medium effect of using Liveworksheet on students' reading skills. These findings demonstrate that Liveworksheet can effectively enhance reading comprehension and serve as a valuable alternative media for reading instruction.

Arabic literature experienced a significant thematic transformation from the Umayyad to the Abbasid period. In the Umayyad era, poetry was still rooted in classical qasidah, focusing on praise, tribal pride, and romantic ideals. However, the Abbasid era brought a wave of literary renewal, influenced by sociopolitical and cultural shifts. This study explores how these contexts shaped literary themes and styles, using a descriptive qualitative approach through library research and textual analysis. It focuses on works by Al-Farazdaq, Al-Akhtal, Jarir, Abu Nawas, Abu al-Atahiyah, Dibil al-Khuza’i, and Al-Jahiz. The findings reveal that poetry in the Abbasid era became a tool for social criticism, spiritual reflection, and personal expression. Meanwhile, Al-Jahiz significantly advanced Arabic prose, making it more intellectual and educational. This study concludes that Arabic literature evolved not only in form and content, but also in function, reflecting the intellectual and cultural dynamism of Islamic civilization. Keywords: Abbasid; Arabic literature; New Poets; Transformation; Umayyad
