The issue of women's status in Islamic family law has remained a subject of ongoing debate, particularly when examined through the interpretation of Surah An-Nisa verse 34, which designates men as leaders (qawwam) within the family. This study aims to analyze the verse using an interdisciplinary approach that integrates classical and contemporary Qur’anic exegesis with feminist theory. This approach not only explores the dynamics of interpretation from traditional scholars such as al-Tabari and Ibn Kathir to modern thinkers like Amina Wadud, but also critically examines how various strands of feminism—liberal, radical, and Islamic—provide analytical frameworks to challenge patriarchal structures in Islamic family law. This research employs a qualitative method through library research, supported by normative and juridical-historical approaches. The findings reveal that Surah An-Nisa verse 34 can be understood in a more egalitarian manner when interpreted in light of evolving social contexts, without disregarding the fundamental principles of Sharia. The study concludes that integrating Qur’anic interpretation with feminist perspectives offers the potential for a more just, inclusive, and contextually responsive understanding of Islamic family law in addressing gender equality in contemporary society.

Reflection : Islamic Education Journal 2025 Asosiasi Riset Ilmu Pendidikan Agama dan Filsafat Indonesia

This article aims to examine the development of Islamic education during the Umayyad Dynasty with a focus on two main aspects: how the Islamic education system was formed and the extent of the government's role in supporting it. By using a qualitative-descriptive approach based on historical studies, and including library research. Data collection techniques use various literature both from history books and from articles in national and international journals and conduct data analysis using content analysis. The results show that Islamic education during that period already had a functional structure through halaqah, mosques, and houses of scholars, although it had not been formally institutionalized. On the other hand, the Umayyad Dynasty government played an important role through Arabization policies, the construction of mosque infrastructure, and the creation of political stability that allowed science to develop. These findings underline that education during the Umayyad period grew from the synergy between community initiatives and structural support from the State.

Indonesia and Malaysia, as neighboring countries, share deep historical, economic, and social ties, leading to significant migration flows between them. However, alongside legal migration, a considerable number of undocumented Indonesian migrants reside in Malaysia, often accompanied by their children, who are born without proper documentation. These undocumented children face severe barriers to education, as Malaysia’s legal framework, influenced by its reservation to Article 28 of the CRC, restricts access based on nationality and legal status. Despite both states being parties to the CRC, which mandates equal educational rights for all children without discrimination, Malaysia’s policies continue to exclude undocumented children from formal education. This study examines Malaysia’s legal stance, its contradiction with CRC obligations, and the impact on Indonesian children. Malaysia, as the host state, must take greater responsibility by ensuring non-discriminatory access to education and aligning its legal framework with its international commitments. The withdrawal of Malaysia’s reservation to Article 28 CRC and potential constitutional amendments are necessary steps toward fulfilling the right to education for all children within its territory.

This research explores Ōta Shōgo’s The Water Station using a biographical lens, concentrating on three key aspects of absurdist theater: the Anti-Hero, Anti-Dialogue, and Anti-Climax. Breaking away from conventional storytelling methods, the play introduces a cast of anonymous characters who move gradually and silently across the stage, briefly stopping at a leaking water pipe. These characters represent the Anti-Hero—individuals lacking a distinct purpose, choice, or identity. The performance's lack of spoken words introduce a powerful Anti-Dialogue component, substituting conversation with silence and physical gestures, which symbolically mirrors the playwright’s experiences of trauma and disillusionment following the war. Moreover, the story does not follow a typical climax or conclusion, utilizing Anti-Climax to highlight the meaningless repetition inherent in human life. Through an examination of Ōta’s personal history—especially his experiences of displacement during World War II and his interest in the concepts of time, slowness, and stillness—this paper illustrates how these influences shaped the play's form and tone. The study emphasizes that non-Western absurdist art can arise from deeply personal and historical backgrounds. Ultimately, The Water Station creates a reflective theatrical experience where silence communicates more than spoken words, encouraging viewers to engage with the themes of emptiness, ambiguity, and the quiet beauty of existence.

The revision of Law No. 34 of 2004 concerning the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI Law) on March 20, 2025, particularly regarding the expanded placement of active military personnel in civilian positions, has sparked concerns about the return of Dwifungsi ABRI. This study critically analyzes whether this expanded role can be categorized as a New Style Dwifungsi and its implications for democratic consolidation in Indonesia. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach with a literature review, this research examines the historical roots of Dwifungsi ABRI, the crucial changes in the 2025 TNI Law revision, and analyzes the concerns of civil society and academics. The findings indicate the potential weakening of civilian supremacy, a decline in military professionalism, and accountability issues. International comparative studies underscore the importance of civilian supremacy and military neutrality in a democracy. The conclusion emphasizes the necessity of upholding democratic integrity and civilian supremacy through transparency and strict accountability in any military placement within the civilian sphere.

The school of jurisprudence has a crucial role in the formation of Islamic law, both in the classical and modern eras. In the classical period, schools of thought such as Hanafi, Maliki, Syafi'i, and Hanbali became the main basis for formulating Islamic law through a structured ijtihad methodology. Each school of thought developed its own way of interpreting the Qur'an, Hadith, ijma', and qiyas, which then contributed to the diversity of Islamic law. In the modern era, the role of schools of jurisprudence remains relevant in responding to contemporary legal challenges, especially in economic, social, and technological issues. Islamic law reform in various Muslim countries often refers to the principles of these schools by adapting them to the national legal system. Therefore, the study of schools of jurisprudence not only contributes to the historical development of Islamic law but also serves as a foundation for formulating legal solutions that are adaptive to the dynamics of the times.

This study aims to analyze the influence of service quality, destination attraction, and supporting facilities on visitor loyalty in the context of halal tourism at Maimun Palace, Medan City. Employing a quantitative approach with an associative research design, the study involved 254 respondents selected using the Slovin formula from a total population of 689 visitors recorded in April 2025. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire using a Likert scale and analyzed using SPSS software. The findings reveal that each independent variable—service, attraction, and facilities—has a positive and significant effect on visitor loyalty. Furthermore, the simultaneous analysis confirms that the combination of these three factors significantly influences loyalty among visitors to the halal tourism destination. These results align with the Customer Satisfaction Theory, which posits that positive experiences related to service delivery, destination appeal, and the availability of appropriate facilities contribute to higher levels of satisfaction, ultimately fostering loyalty. The implications of this study suggest that halal tourism destination managers should prioritize enhancing service quality, preserving the cultural and historical appeal of attractions, and ensuring the availability of facilities that meet the specific needs of Muslim tourists. By doing so, destinations like Maimun Palace can cultivate sustainable visitor loyalty, which is essential for long-term tourism development and competitiveness in the halal tourism sector. This research contributes to the growing body of literature on halal tourism by empirically validating the role of service, attraction, and facilities in shaping visitor loyalty. Future studies are recommended to explore additional variables such as religious compliance, digital engagement, and cultural sensitivity to provide a more comprehensive understanding of loyalty drivers in halal tourism contexts.

This research explores cultural preservation strategies through the development of the tourism sector, using the Surakarta Palace as a case study. The Surakarta Palace, a cultural heritage site in Central Java with significant historical and cultural value, plays a vital role in preserving Javanese traditions while contributing to regional tourism growth. This study adopts a descriptive qualitative method with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the Surakarta Palace actively preserves culture through various initiatives such as organizing traditional ceremonies, staging classical Javanese art performances (like gamelan and wayang), and managing museums that house historical artifacts and royal collections. These strategies serve not only to maintain cultural continuity but also to increase the attractiveness of the palace as a cultural tourism destination. Despite these efforts, several challenges remain. These include limited financial resources, minimal use of digital media for promotion, and the lack of public awareness—especially among younger generations—regarding the importance of cultural heritage. To address these challenges, the study emphasizes the need for integrated collaboration between the government, the Surakarta Palace institution, and the surrounding community. Strengthening digital-based promotional strategies and educational outreach is also considered essential to increase public engagement and sustainable tourism impact. In conclusion, the Surakarta Palace serves as a strategic model for cultural preservation within the tourism framework. By improving stakeholder cooperation and adapting to technological advances, cultural heritage can be preserved effectively while supporting local economic development through tourism. Therefore, cultural preservation and tourism development should be positioned as complementary efforts, where the sustainability of both depends on strategic planning, inclusive participation, and adaptive innovation in facing the dynamic demands of modern tourism.

Understanding the legal system before the arrival of Islam is essential to trace the social, cultural, and spiritual transformation of society, especially Arab. The pre-Islamic legal system, known as the Jahiliyah legal sistem, reflects the social reality of the time and is the main comparison for the radical changes brought by Islam. This study aims to provide an explanation of the forms of law, their characteristics, and sources of law that applied in the pre-Islamic period (Jahiliyah) before the arrival of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. This study uses a qualitative approach with a historical descriptive method. Based on the results of an in-depth study of the pre-Islamic legal sistem (Jahiliyah), it can be concluded that the law in the pre-Islamic period was unstructured, particularistic, and heavily influenced by customary power and tribal dominance.

The analysis in this study aims to evaluate the influence of Restaurant Tax, Parking Tax, and Groundwater Tax on the Regional Original Revenue (PAD) of Wonogiri Regency. A quantitative method was applied in this research, utilizing historical data collected from the Regional Financial Management Agency (BPKD) of Wonogiri Regency for the 2020–2024 period. The results indicate that the Restaurant Tax does not have a significant effect on PAD, with a significance value of 0.204. In contrast, both the Parking Tax and Groundwater Tax have a positive and significant impact on PAD, with significance values of 0.001 and 0.007, respectively. These findings suggest that although the number of restaurants has increased, the demand for restaurant services has not kept pace. Meanwhile, the growth in motor vehicle numbers and public awareness of groundwater tax obligations have contributed to the increase in PAD. This study recommends enhancing the effectiveness of tax management and improving public outreach regarding tax obligations by the local government.

The selection of the head of government is a fundamental aspect of the constitutional system that reflects the political and legal character of a state. Although Indonesia and Malaysia share similar historical roots, they adopt significantly different systems of governance. This study addresses two core issues which are about the structure and mechanism of executive and legislative power, and the impact of the presidential threshold and parliamentary coalition on governmental stability. Using a normative juridical method with statutory and comparative approaches, the findings reveal that Indonesia, under a presidential system, applies a nomination threshold to ensure political stability, yet it may restrict political access. Meanwhile, Malaysia’s parliamentary system is more flexible but vulnerable to instability due to coalition dynamics. This study recommends a reassessment of Indonesia’s presidential threshold for a more democratic process and strengthening of political stability mechanisms in Malaysia.

This study explores the character development of Vianne Mauriac in Kristin Hannah’s historical novel The Nightingale, with a particular focus on how her moral progression is revealed through characterization. It aims to examine how direct and indirect characterization contribute to the portrayal of Vianne’s evolving moral reasoning under the pressure of wartime experiences. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, the analysis uses Rimmon-Kenan’s theory to identify characterization techniques and Kohlberg’s stages of moral development to interpret Vianne’s ethical transformation. The findings indicate that Vianne shifts from self-preserving and fear-driven decisions to socially conscious choices and ultimately to morally autonomous actions grounded in universal principles. Her characterization, through action, speech, appearance, and environment, functions not only to construct Vianne’s identity but also to trace her moral journey. Her development demonstrates how literature, particularly historical fiction, can reflect and explore complex ethical growth. The study contributes to understanding how characterization and moral development work together in shaping a compelling and morally resonant protagonist.

The relationship between Makassar sailors and the Yolngu Aboriginal people in northern Australia since the 17th century shows an early form of peaceful and mutually beneficial inter-community diplomacy. The sea cucumber trade activity became the entry point for deep economic cooperation and cultural exchange, leaving a significant influence on the social and cultural identity of the Yolngu people. Using a historical method approach, this article explores archaeological, linguistic, and oral narrative evidence that strengthens the traces of this interaction. In the modern context, this historical legacy is an important foundation for Indonesia's cultural diplomacy and soft power, while strengthening strategic cooperation with Australia in the fields of maritime, culture, and regional security.
