This study analyzes the factors contributing to the low interest in reading among elementary school students in the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, with a particular focus on the dependence on artificial intelligence applications such as ChatGPT. Technological advancements have made information access easier, but they have also raised concerns about the decline in the interest in deep book reading. Students who frequently use ChatGPT tend to only read summaries without delving deeper into the material, which weakens their critical thinking skills. In the Merdeka Curriculum, strong literacy is crucial, and therefore, the role of teachers and parents is essential to guide students in making books their primary learning resource. This research not only examines this phenomenon but also offers solutions for teachers and parents to enhance students' reading interest.

Many students face difficulties and lack confidence when it comes to English pronunciation, often doubting whether their pronunciation is correct. One significant challenge they face is the difference in dialect and pronunciation between their native language and the target language. In Indonesia, a Muslim-majority country, many students are familiar with Arabic, particularly in pesantren-based schools. Arabic and English share certain phonetic features, especially in the fricative consonant sounds, which could help Indonesian students learn English pronunciation more easily. This study explores how learning Arabic might aid in improving English pronunciation, specifically focusing on fricative sounds. Using a mixed-methods approach that combines both quantitative and qualitative data, this research applies a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design. The study involved fifteen junior high school students in grade VIII from an Islamic character school. The primary goal of the research was to assess how the students’ English pronunciation, particularly on fricative sounds, improved after learning Arabic. The results show a significant improvement in the pronunciation of /f/, /ʃ/, /s/, /z/, and /ʒ/ sounds. However, the students showed less improvement in the pronunciation of /ð/ and /θ/ sounds. This suggests that while Arabic may offer some advantages in mastering specific English sounds, there may be challenges that still hinder the improvement of other English consonants. These findings could provide insights into language learning strategies and the potential role of Arabic in enhancing English pronunciation.

This study examines the contributions of Imam Abu Hasan Al-Ash'ari and Imam Abu Mansur Al-Maturidi in shaping the Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah (Aswaja) school of thought and its implications for Islamic education. Both imams are considered foundational figures in Islamic theology, and their ideas have influenced the development of the creed (aqidah), Islamic theology (ilm al-kalam), and Islamic philosophy in various Islamic educational institutions throughout history. Through a qualitative research method with a literature review approach, this study analyzes both primary and secondary sources, including classical texts and modern interpretations, to assess the relevance of their thoughts in the context of contemporary Islamic education systems. The findings indicate that the Ash‘arite and Maturidite theological frameworks, which emphasize the balance between revelation and rationality, have been instrumental in shaping curricula, teaching methodologies, and approaches to religious understanding. The concept of moderation, or wasatiyyah, in both theological schools is central to this approach, encouraging a balanced interpretation of Islamic teachings that addresses modern challenges. The study concludes that integrating the principles of Ash‘arite and Maturidite theology into contemporary educational practices offers valuable insights into fostering a more inclusive, balanced, and rational approach to Islamic learning.

Learning motivation is a key factor in students' academic success. This study aims to analyze the effect of intrinsic rewards, extrinsic rewards, and punishments on elementary school students' learning motivation. Using the literature review method, this research examines various literatures related to the application of reward and punishment strategies in education. The results show that appropriately given rewards can enhance both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in students. Intrinsic rewards, such as a sense of achievement and self-pride, encourage students to continue learning and develop independently, while extrinsic rewards, such as praise or gifts, provide external incentives that reinforce student motivation. On the other hand, punishments applied wisely can instill discipline and improve students' learning focus. However, rewards are found to be more effective in increasing student motivation compared to punishments, as rewards create a positive and enjoyable learning environment. Punishments, if overused or applied inappropriately, can negatively affect student motivation and lead to stress or fear. This study also shows that a combination of both approaches—rewards and punishments—when applied in the right balance, can produce optimal results in supporting students' academic development. These findings provide important implications for educators in designing effective learning strategies to enhance students' learning motivation, as well as the importance of a balanced and thoughtful approach to students' needs and characteristics.
