Mergers and acquisitions have served as a primary strategy for global banking consolidation over the past three decades, including in Indonesia, which is currently undergoing one of its most massive consolidation waves—one notable example being the emergence of Bank Syariah Indonesia. This article aims to provide a narrative review of the literature on the operational impacts of mergers on bank performance, with a particular focus on implications for the Indonesian context. Based on a systematic search of the Scopus database, 52 peer-reviewed articles published between 2000 and 2025 were analyzed using a narrative thematic synthesis approach. Five main themes were identified: cost efficiency, service quality, risk management, human resource and cultural integration, and information systems and technology integration. The key findings indicate that although 73.1% of studies report post-merger improvements in cost efficiency, these benefits are highly contingent upon the quality of post-merger integration especially in the areas of human resources, organizational culture, and information technology with IT integration failure rates reaching as high as 75%. Domestic mergers consistently achieve efficiency gains more rapidly than cross-border mergers, whereas risk implications depend heavily on the type of merger and the quality of integration. Policy implications include the need for the Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan) to monitor post-merger integration quality, provide integration guidelines for smaller banks, take into account the specific characteristics of Islamic banks, and ensure a streamlined, non-burdensome licensing process. Further research particularly empirical studies on banking mergers in Indonesia—is urgently needed to test the generalizability of global findings to the local context.

Contract law recognizes the concept of force majeure as a mechanism to address extraordinary circumstances that hinder the performance of obligations, namely unforeseen events beyond the debtor’s control that may result in the release or suspension of obligations. However, this concept has limitations, as it does not encompass situations such as economic or monetary crises. In the development of international contract law, the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts 2016 (UPICC) introduce the concept of hardship as a response to fundamental changes in circumstances that affect the economic equilibrium of the parties. Although hardship has not been explicitly recognized in Indonesian law, it is considered more relevant for addressing such conditions. This study aims to examine the historical development of the concept of hardship and to analyze the implementation of its underlying values in Indonesian legal practice. The method employed is normative legal research, utilizing primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials. The findings indicate that, despite the absence of explicit regulation within the national legal system, the values of hardship have been reflected in several court decisions through approaches grounded in fairness and contractual adjustment. The implication of this study is that the concept of hardship has the potential to be explicitly adopted into Indonesian contract law in order to fill existing legal gaps and provide a more adaptive solution to changing circumstances, particularly in addressing economic or monetary crises that fall outside the scope of the force majeure regime

Suspicious urban sound recognition is a critical component of intelligent public safety and urban monitoring systems, enabling the automated identification of anomalous acoustic events such as gunshots, sirens, and other security-sensitive sounds. However, existing deep learning approaches often struggle to simultaneously capture long-range temporal dependencies and global contextual relationships, particularly under noisy and acoustically complex urban conditions. This limitation can reduce reliability in safety-critical scenarios where missed detections carry significant risk. To address these challenges, this study proposes a Multi-Branch Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) framework with Multi-Head Self-Attention (MHSA) for enhanced sequential and contextual feature modeling. Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs) are extracted from a curated subset of the UrbanSound8K dataset, comprising five suspicious sound classes, and used as input to the proposed architecture. The multi-branch design enables complementary temporal representations, while the self-attention mechanism provides lightweight contextual weighting of BiLSTM outputs. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model achieves a test accuracy of 95.59%, outperforming conventional Dense and LSTM-based baseline models under identical experimental settings. An ablation study further confirms the contribution of multi-branch integration and attention-based enhancement to overall performance. Class-wise evaluation reveals consistently high recall across all sound categories, particularly for safety-critical classes such as gunshots and sirens. These findings indicate that the proposed framework provides robust and reliable performance, making it suitable for real-time smart city surveillance and public safety applications.

Employee attendance is an important indicator to demonstrate the discipline and performance of village employees. The process of recording employee attendance previously at the Lumban Dolok Village Office was still done manually. This can cause problems such as incorrect data, slow report collection, and absenteeism. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop a web-based presence-monitoring information system that uses the Location-Based Service (LBS) method. The purpose of the LBS method is to ensure that the attendance process can be carried out only when employees are within a specified radius of the Lumban Dolok Village Office. This system uses latitude and longitude data from the user's device to calculate the geographic distance to the location's center point. The developed system uses the user's device's latitude and longitude to calculate the distance between the employee's location and the attendance center. Within a radius of 25 meters, the attendance process can only be carried out if the employee is within that radius; if they are outside the radius, then the attendance will be automatically rejected by the system. In this study, the waterfall system development method was employed, with PHP and UML. The results of the study show that this system can help the village office monitor employee attendance directly, speed up the collection of attendance reports, and reduce the risk of data manipulation. In addition, attendance reports are easily accessible by admins and village heads to assess employee performance. Thus, the web-based attendance information system using the LBS method is expected to improve compliance, transparency, and effectiveness of attendance management at the Lumban Dolok Village Office.

Social media has become a primary means of communication for adolescents in the digital era, yet excessive use can create complex impacts on their academic, social, and psychological well-being. The positive effects include expanding cross-regional friendships, improving communication skills, strengthening social relationships, and increasing learning motivation through peer interaction and support. Conversely, the negative effects include declining academic performance due to reduced focus, neglect of responsibilities, weakened language skills caused by the dominance of informal language, a higher risk of digital crimes such as fraud and identity theft, as well as mental-health issues including anxiety, depression, social-comparison pressure, and cyberbullying. To minimize these risks, preventive efforts are needed, such as enhancing digital literacy for both adolescents and parents, promoting ethical and safe online behavior, regulating screen time, strengthening parental guidance, implementing digital-wellness policies in schools, providing counseling services, developing more youth-friendly platforms, and enforcing government regulations on online safety. This study emphasizes that the wise, safe, and productive use of social media can only be achieved through collaborative efforts involving adolescents, families, schools, communities, platform providers, and the government.

This study aims to analyze the effect of labor proportion and industrial agglomeration externalities on the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of the manufacturing sector in Indonesia. This research employs a quantitative approach using panel data covering 34 provinces over the period 2019–2023. The independent variables include labor proportion and industrial externalities represented by specialization index (MARshall–Arrow–Romer/MAR), competition (Porter), and diversity (Jacobs). The analysis method uses panel data regression with model selection through Chow, Hausman, and Lagrange Multiplier tests, where the Random Effect Model (REM) is selected as the best estimation model. The results show that labor proportion and MAR externalities have a positive and significant effect on manufacturing GRDP, highlighting the important role of labor and industrial specialization in driving regional output growth. In contrast, Porter and Jacobs externalities do not have a significant effect, indicating that industrial competition and diversity have not yet contributed substantially to manufacturing sector performance during the study period. Simultaneously, all independent variables significantly affect GRDP, although the model’s explanatory power remains relatively limited. These findings suggest that the growth of Indonesia’s manufacturing sector is more influenced by labor and industrial concentration rather than competition and diversification dynamics, and that other factors outside the model also play an important role in determining manufacturing sector performance.
