In a diverse society, character education through CRE aims to shape individuals who respect differences, are able to live harmoniously, and serve as "salt and light" in society. Through an inclusive and dialogical approach, CRE teaches students to appreciate diversity without losing their Christian identity. This study employs a literature review method to identify the challenges and opportunities in implementing CRE as a character-building tool in a multicultural society. The results show that a multicultural approach in CRE creates space for interfaith dialogue, helps prevent intolerance, and shapes a generation committed to values of peace and love. This study investigates the role of citizenship in the context of dual identity in Indonesia's multicultural society, as well as how Islamic law and national law interact with law enforcement. Due to the extraordinary cultural and religious diversity, Indonesia faces challenges in integrating the dual identities of its people. Cultural and religious identities often lead to conflicts among citizens governed by national law, especially when it comes to religious rules and Islamic law. How dual identity affects law enforcement in Indonesia is explored through qualitative research using descriptive-analytical techniques. Data was obtained through in-depth interviews with relevant individuals and analysis of national legal and religious documents. The research results indicate that although Law No. 12 of 2006 on Citizenship provides a legal basis for all citizens. In reality, Islamic law often plays a larger role in the lives of Muslim communities. The disagreement between religious law and national law causes chaos in law enforcement, especially regardingin heritance and family issues. In addition, this research examines the legal systems in other countries with multicultural populations, such as Malaysia, India, and Canada. These countries demonstrate similar issues in creating fair legal policies for multicultural societies. This research concludes that an inclusive approach must be used in the formulation of legal policies in Indonesia so that dual identities in society can be accepted by the state’s legal system, allowing.

Data analysis was carried out with descriptive qualitative. The results of this study, First, Selection, the Independent Student Exchange Program is considered very good by participants because it provides many benefits. They gained valuable memories, such as meeting new friends, learning new cultures, and gaining valuable practicum experience. Second, Organization, the Merdeka Student Exchange Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang provides students with the opportunity to learn outside the classroom with education from destination universities. Participants experience differences in character and accent from other students, highlighting the importance of communicating well in a multicultural campus environment. Third, Interpretation, the Merdeka Student Exchange Program reflects students' drive for self-development and exploration of potential and encourages understanding of the diversity of ethnicity, nation, culture, race, and religion.

This study explores the impact of culturally responsive pedagogy (CRP) on student engagement and academic performance in multicultural classrooms. As educational environments become increasingly diverse, CRP has emerged as a critical approach to meet the needs of students from various cultural backgrounds. This quasi-experimental study involved students from multicultural classrooms across multiple schools, with one group implementing CRP strategies and a control group using traditional teaching methods. Data was collected through surveys assessing student engagement and academic records to measure performance before and after the implementation of CRP practices. The findings indicate that students in CRP classrooms exhibited significantly higher engagement levels and improved academic performance compared to the control group. The increased student participation, motivation, and academic success were attributed to the integration of culturally relevant content that resonated with students’ cultural identities. The study highlights several challenges in the implementation of CRP, including the need for professional teacher training, curriculum adaptation to incorporate cultural relevance, and strong policy support. It also underscores the importance of teacher preparedness, curriculum adaptation, and institutional support in ensuring the effective implementation of CRP. The study’s results align with international best practices, demonstrating that CRP significantly enhances student outcomes, particularly among minority cultural groups. Future research should focus on the long-term effects of CRP and its scalability across various educational contexts to further understand its impact on academic achievement and engagement in diverse classroom settings.

Indonesia is a diverse nation with a wide range of religions, ethnicities, cultures, languages, and traditions spread across its vast territory from Sabang to Merauke. This diversity, on the one hand, serves as a strength of the nation, yet on the other hand, it also carries the potential for conflict if not managed properly through the practice of tolerance. Students, as agents of change, hold a strategic role in maintaining harmony and peace, both within campus environments and in society at large. This study aims to analyze the implementation of tolerance values among university students in order to achieve peace in a plural society. The research employs a library research method with a descriptive qualitative approach, analyzing relevant literature on tolerance, students, and social peace. The findings reveal that students’ tolerance can be manifested in academic settings, organizational activities, social interactions, and religious practices. However, its implementation faces challenges such as intolerance, radicalism, identity politics, and the misuse of social media. Strengthening tolerance values can be carried out through multicultural education, character building, and student engagement in cross-cultural and interfaith organizations. Thus, students are not only academic individuals but also moral, social, and intellectual role models who can serve as key drivers in fostering peace and harmony within Indonesia’s diverse society.

This research aims to examine the relationship between language and society through a sociolinguistic perspective, focusing on language variations that are influenced by social factors such as class, gender, ethnicity and age. Using the literature review method, this research analyzes various previous studies that discuss language variations, dialects, social identities, and the role of bilingualism in multicultural societies. The research results show that language not only functions as a means of communication, but also as a reflection of social identity, culture and power. Variations in language use, whether in the form of dialect, style, or register, reflect social stratification and power relations in society. In addition, the phenomena of bilingualism and language shift highlight the dynamics of interactions between national languages ​​and regional languages, with potential threats to the survival of regional languages. This research concludes that a deep understanding of language variation is important for preserving linguistic and cultural richness. This research examines the existence of social care in building ukhuwah wathaniyah in the community of Tanjung Beringin District, Serdang Bedagai Regency. Ukhuwah wathaniyah, as a concept of brotherhood that transcends ethnic and religious barriers, is an important foundation in strengthening social relations in a diverse society. This research focuses on how forms of social care, such as gotong royong, humanitarian assistance, and cooperation between citizens play a role in creating harmony and solidarity in the midst of society. The method used in this research is a qualitative approach with data collection through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive analytical method to describe the patterns of social interaction that support ukhuwah wathaniyah. The research findings show that social care in Tanjung Beringin Sub-district is a key factor in strengthening ukhuwah wathaniyah. The local community shows a strong commitment to maintaining and improving social harmony through various activities that involve all levels of society. The results of this study provide a deeper understanding of the importance of social care in building ukhuwah wathaniyah in a multicultural society. It is hoped that this research can serve as a reference for policy makers and related parties in formulating inclusive and sustainable social development strategies in Tanjung Beringin Sub-district as well as other areas with similar social characteristics.

This study focuses on the involvement of the Church in interpreting pluralism in Indonesia. This article describes the efforts of the Catholic Church in addressing diversity in Indonesia through two different but complementary research approaches: quantitative method using questionnaires and qualitative method involving literature review. The quantitative approach involves data collection through questionnaires distributed to various members of the Catholic Church. The numerical data generated from the questionnaires are then statistically analyzed to identify patterns, preferences, and common views related to the synodality and diakonia of the Church. Meanwhile, the qualitative approach involves in-depth analysis through literature study, encompassing an understanding of the concepts of synodality and diakonia of the Church, as well as a review of literature relevant to the Indonesian context. This article aims to provide a comprehensive insight into the role of the Catholic Church in addressing differences and promoting unity in the multicultural context of Indonesia. Thus, this article is expected to make a valuable contribution to the understanding and discussion of the challenges and potential of the synodality and diakonia of the Church in unifying diversity in Indonesia.

Buddhism is a religion that aims to bring happiness to all living beings through mutual respect, acceptance, celebrating differences, and living peacefully. Of course, this kind of thing is in accordance with multicultural education, one of the aims of which is to develop the ability to recognize, accept, appreciate and celebrate cultural diversity. This qualitative research using literature studies analyzes the significance of multicultural education values ​​in Buddhist teachings. The data analysis technique uses content analysis by sorting things according to the focus and objectives of the research. This research produces the following three conclusions. First, Buddhism teaches tolerance so that its followers can listen to the teachings of other religions with full awareness as stated in "samaggā sakhilā hotha", meaning "let each other be in harmony and do good. Second, Buddhism teaches its followers to behave democratically, which was directly exemplified by the Buddha when making a decision for the Kalama people. Third, Buddhism teaches peace and always avoids all forms of conflict, hostility and fighting because those who can realize this truth will immediately end fighting.

The research aims to describe the phenomena occurring and underscores the need for education to uphold values aligned with national identity and manage cultural diversity wisely to prevent social conflicts. Education plays a crucial role in the process of socialization and individual development, serving not only as a means of transferring knowledge but also in shaping attitudes, values, and positive behaviors within the community. Through education, individuals can become people who appreciate diversity and contribute positively to diverse communities. Multicultural education, which emphasizes the importance of respecting diversity, is key to addressing social and cultural conflicts in Indonesia's diverse society. Additionally, quality education helps individuals adapt to the challenges of globalization while preserving local cultural identity, thus supporting the balance between global openness and the preservation of local values.
