Abstract
The purpose of this article is to know the role of peers in shaping the personality of students through social studies subjects at MTs Negeri 2 Purworejo and to know the efforts of social studies teachers to support the role of peers in shaping the personality of students at MTs Negeri 2 Purworejo. This research uses qualitative methods with a phenomenological approach. The results of this study are 1) Students play a role as providing support to students, 2) Students have the role of teaching various social skills, 3) Students act as informers to students, 4) Students act as a model of behavior for students, 5) Teachers have made efforts to support the role of peers by using peer tutor strategies in social studies learning. Therefore, education is needed to support and encourage the role to be more directed and can be used as a venue for healthy social interaction, especially in the school environment, one of which is the use of peer tutor strategies in social studies learning.
