Land-use changes dominated by impervious surfaces in residential areas reduce the natural infiltration capacity of the soil and increase surface runoff, which may lead to flooding and waterlogging. This study aimed to design a rainwater infiltration well system as an effort to reduce surface runoff in Samudera Afroza 3 Housing Estate, Jambi City. A quantitative approach was employed through field surveys, hydrological analysis, soil permeability testing, GIS-based land-use analysis, and infiltration well design in accordance with SNI 8456:2017 and SNI 03-2453-2002 standards. Rainfall analysis was conducted using maximum daily rainfall data from 2014–2023, applying several probability distributions, with the Gumbel distribution identified as the most representative model. The results revealed that the residential area covers 8,104 m², with 91.84% of the land occupied by built-up surfaces, resulting in limited natural infiltration capacity. The average soil permeability value of 0.00024 m/s indicates favorable conditions for the implementation of infiltration wells. Based on the design calculations, 41 Type III infiltration wells are required, providing a total storage capacity of 289.665 m³ and an infiltration discharge of 0.0919 m³/s. The proposed infiltration well system is capable of reducing runoff volumes by 15.044%, 12.486%, and 11.223% for 2-year, 5-year, and 10-year return periods, respectively. Therefore, infiltration wells can be considered an effective alternative for water conservation and runoff management in residential areas.

Slums are an urban issue that arises due to rapid population growth and the limited capacity of local governments to provide adequate housing and basic infrastructure. This leads to areas with low environmental quality, limited access, poor drainage, and high socio-economic vulnerability. A similar phenomenon occurs in Jambi City, which requires a sustainable handling strategy. This study aims to analyze the strategies implemented by the Department of Public Housing and Settlement Areas of Jambi City in addressing slums and assess their contribution to environmental quality. A descriptive qualitative approach was used to understand the policies, program implementation mechanisms, and institutional challenges. Data was collected through interviews with government officials, field observations, and analysis of planning documents. The results indicate that the strategy focuses on improving basic infrastructure, such as road construction, drainage rehabilitation, and the provision of settlement facilities. This program enhances environmental quality and accessibility but faces challenges such as budget limitations, suboptimal inter-agency coordination, and the socio-economic conditions of the community. Addressing slums requires a more comprehensive approach, including collaborative governance, increased community participation, and adaptive policies to ensure sustainable improvements.

The house renovation program is one of the government's efforts to improve the quality of housing for low-income people. However, the process of selecting recipients of home surgery assistance is often faced with obstacles in determining the right and fair priorities for recipients. Therefore, this study aims to design and implement a home surgery decision-making system at the Housing, Residential Areas, and Land Office using the Weight Product (WP) method. The WP method was chosen because of its ability to conduct an objective assessment of various relevant criteria, such as the condition of the house, ownership status, level of welfare, and socioeconomic needs of the recipient. This system will give weight to each criterion used to determine the priority of home surgical assistance for residents in need. In its implementation, this system is able to process data from various prospective recipients and produce an automatic and transparent order of priority recipients. The results of the evaluation show that this system can improve efficiency and accuracy in the decision-making process, as well as assist the Housing Office in implementing the house renovation program more on target. With this system, it is hoped that the home renovation program can provide greater benefits to people in need, as well as accelerate the implementation of better housing programs.

A market is a place where buying and selling transactions take place between sellers and buyers at a specific time and place. This definition encompasses several key elements: the presence of sellers, buyers, a specific place and time, and a transaction agreement. Such markets are also known as traditional markets. "Surprise" or "overflow" markets are markets that open suddenly and briefly. "Surprise" or "overflow" markets are increasingly common in various locations. There are many reasons why people enjoy shopping at these markets. One example is the very low prices, especially compared to shopping at supermarkets or malls. Over time, with the increasing demand for basic necessities, the "surprise" market, located along the road in the Vila Mutiara Cikarang housing complex, has also experienced gradual development. The number of traders and buyers has increased, the trading space has expanded, and transaction times have decreased. This "surprise" market is located along the road in the Vila Mutiara Cikarang housing complex, starting from the second block to the end of the road exiting the housing complex. The "surprise" market operates during peak hours, especially in the morning, when this time is not only for market activities but also for many activities such as going to work, school, and other activities.

The rapid pace of housing development in Bogor has created a gap with the provision of formal infrastructure, which has encouraged the emergence of community-led self-help road initiatives. While capable of addressing urgent connectivity needs, these road formations often ignore essential design standards, particularly those related to circulation and environmental context. This study focuses on a specific challenge in Bogor, namely high rainfall ("force of nature"), which contributes to road degradation, causing flooding, and reducing user comfort. Adopting a descriptive qualitative method, this study analyzes the existing self-help access conditions through field observations and a literature review focusing on Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) principles and circulation theory. Field findings confirm that the current design fails to manage surface runoff, resulting in low infiltration and the emergence of functional space conflicts (e.g., for parking and social activities). As a solution, this study proposes an integrated design demonstration that combines porous materials and micro-drainage to manage the force of nature, thereby improving circulation comfort and supporting active living for residents.
