Uric acid is a byproduct of purine breakdown, which is a component found in DNA and food. Purine is broken down into uric acid in the body, and if not excreted properly, it can lead to the accumulation of uric acid in the blood, known as hyperuricemia. If left untreated, this condition can develop into gout, which is characterized by joint pain and inflammation, particularly in the foot joints. In addition to medical treatment through medications, uric acid levels can also be naturally reduced through the consumption of certain foods, one of which is pineapple juice. Pineapple juice is known to have beneficial properties in reducing uric acid levels. Pineapple contains vitamin C, flavonoids, and bromelain. Vitamin C plays an important role in increasing the excretion of uric acid through urine, thereby helping to lower uric acid levels in the body. In addition, the flavonoids in pineapple act as antioxidants, inhibiting the enzyme xanthine oxidase, which is involved in the purine metabolism that produces uric acid. By inhibiting this enzyme, the process of uric acid formation can be reduced. Bromelain, a protease enzyme found in pineapple, also provides additional benefits. Bromelain helps accelerate the healing of swelling and joint pain caused by uric acid, as well as having anti-inflammatory effects that help reduce inflammation. This study was conducted using a case study method with a one-group pretest-posttest design to observe changes in uric acid levels in respondents after consuming pineapple juice. For 7 days, four respondents consumed 200 ml of pineapple juice per day. The results showed a reduction in uric acid levels in all four respondents, indicating that pineapple juice is effective as a supportive therapy in lowering uric acid levels. These findings suggest the potential of pineapple juice as a natural alternative to help manage uric acid levels.

Uric acid (UA) is a waste product formed when the body breaks down purines, which are natural compounds found in the body and can be found in various types of foods such as alcohol, shellfish, and liver. Hyperuricemia is caused by increased uric acid production, decreased excretion, or a combination of both processes. Most people with hyperuricemia are asymptomatic (85% to 90%), but increased levels of uric acid in the blood or urine can cause gout or nephrolithiasis. Hyperuricemia and hyperuricosuria are also associated with other disorders such as metabolic syndrome, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, atherosclerosis, obesity, and chronic kidney disease. The Community Service (PKM) activity held in Grogol Village, West Jakarta, aims to increase awareness of the elderly community regarding the importance of early detection of hyperuricemia. This program uses the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach, starting from planning uric acid level examinations and compiling educational materials, followed by implementing interactive screening and counseling, evaluating results, and following up in the form of medical referrals for participants with abnormal results. Of the 71 participants involved, only 1 person had uric acid levels above normal. Through education on low-purine diets, the importance of hydration, and physical exercise, this activity is expected to be able to reduce the incidence of hyperuricemia and its complications, as well as support the realization of a healthier elderly community that is aware of its metabolic health.

Hyperuricemia contributes to various metabolic disorders, including gout and kidney disease. Detection of uric acid levels through simple screening is important for early risk identification. One non-pharmacological approach that can help reduce uric acid levels is maintaining adequate fluid intake. Uric acid level examination was performed by taking capillary blood from 104 adult participants. Results were obtained directly using the Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) instrument. Education was provided to all participants using a leaflet discussing the role of hydration in supporting uric acid excretion. The average uric acid level was recorded at 4.08 ± 1.00 mg/dL. A total of 103 participants (99.0%) were in the normal range, and 1 participant (1.0%) had high levels. Most participants have not experienced excessive urate accumulation, but still need education to maintain this status. Uric acid level screening is useful as an effort to detect the risk of metabolic disorders early. Education about the importance of fluid intake is the main strategy to maintain uric acid levels within normal limits and prevent complications due to hyperuricemia.

Hyperuricemia is a condition of increased uric acid levels in the blood that can develop into various metabolic disorders, including gouty arthritis and kidney disease. Physical activity is known to play an important role in controlling uric acid levels by increasing excretion and inhibiting purine production. This activity uses the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach which includes checking uric acid levels using the Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) method in 91 productive-age individuals, as well as education about the importance of physical activity. The results were obtained directly and presented to the participants along with interpretive explanations and preventive recommendations. The average uric acid levels of the participants were recorded at 3.78 ± 0.60 mg/dL with a range of 2.5 to 5.6 mg/dL. All participants (100%) had uric acid levels within the normal range. Physical activity contributes to the regulation of uric acid levels, so proper education remains important even though the examination results show normal values. Education-based interventions play a role in strengthening primary prevention.
