The increasing use of digital devices among adolescents raises concerns regarding eye health, particularly myopia. Non-ergonomic postures, such as using gadgets in a lying position, may increase accommodative stress on the eyes and contribute to visual impairment. To analyze the association between the duration and viewing distance of gadget use in a lying position and the occurrence of myopia among eighth-grade students at SMPN 119 Central Jakarta. An observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 74 eighth-grade students. Data on gadget use habits, including duration and viewing distance, were collected using a structured questionnaire. Visual acuity was assessed using a Snellen chart. Bivariate analysis was performed using the Chi-square test with a significance level of p < 0.05. Decreased visual acuity was found in 62.2% of respondents. There was no significant association between viewing distance and myopia (p = 0.080). However, a significant association was identified between gadget use duration exceeding two hours per day and the occurrence of myopia (p = 0.002). The duration of gadget use in a lying position was significantly associated with myopia, whereas viewing distance was not. Limiting the duration of gadget use may help prevent visual impairment among adolescents.

Background: Sleep disorders in adolescents are a significant health problem, with a global prevalence reaching 57.8% and particularly high rates in several cities in Indonesia. Poor sleep quality negatively impacts physical health, such as the risk of cardiovascular disease and anemia, as well as mental and cognitive health. Sleep behavior is influenced by a dynamic interaction between personal and environmental factors, as explained in Social Cognitive Theory (SCT). Research Objective: To identify the determinants of sleep deprivation in adolescents, specifically individual and environmental factors, based on a Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) perspective through a literature review from 2019 to 2025. Method: This study utilized a literature review. To obtain research data, the authors searched for scientific articles through Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect databases, then analyzed 10 articles that met the inclusion criteria, published between 2020 and 2025. Results: Factors significantly associated with adolescent sleep quality were identified, with individual factors being the most dominant determinant (found in 7 studies), including academic stress and smartphone addiction. Furthermore, a positive association was found with environmental factors (found in 4 studies), such as bright lighting, noise, and uncomfortable room temperature. Conclusion: Within the framework of Social Cognitive Theory, adolescent sleep quality is the result of a reciprocal interaction between personal factors (perceived stress and self-control over gadgets), the physical environment, and sleep behavior. Individual factors such as stress and nighttime gadget use reduce self-efficacy for regular sleep, which is exacerbated by an unfavorable environment.

Myopia is an eye refractive disorder in which the light entering the eye is focused in front of the retina, causing long-distance vision to become blurry. This condition is often experienced by teenagers, including students in Islamic boarding schools, due to the habit of reading in close proximity, excessive use of gadgets, and lack of exposure to natural light. The high prevalence of myopia in young age groups needs serious attention so that it does not develop into permanent vision disorders. One of the prevention efforts that can be done is to provide education about myopia, including the definition, causes, prevention, and importance of maintaining eye health and a healthy lifestyle. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of myopia education on improving knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of students of the Ta'mirul Islam Islamic Islamic Boarding School in Surakarta. Based on the results of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Paired Sample t-Test, there was a significant improvement in the aspects of knowledge and attitude, although behavioral changes have not shown meaningful results. These findings confirm the importance of continuous education to form healthy behaviors related to the prevention of myopia as a whole.

Entering the digital era, technology plays an important role in human life. The Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 accelerated the digital transformation, including the activities of school children aged 6-12 years. The use of gadgets can have both positive and negative impacts on children, so it is necessary for parents to play a role in managing screen time to maximise the positive impact and minimise the negative impact of gadget use on children.  This activity is a counselling for parents, children, and teachers conducted at TPQ Nurul Ilmi Makassar City. The methods used were lectures and discussions. The results of the activity were 25 parents and children, as well as 5 teachers who participated in counselling activities. Based on the results of the discussion, the use of gadgets can help children in finding learning resources and as an educational medium for children, some parents supervise and limit screen time for children but there are also some parents who cannot supervise optimally because they are busy working. Children are given gadgets with the hope that parents can contact their children easily. The advice given to parents is to limit screen time for children to a maximum of 2-3 hours per day and select applications and what children watch during screen time. Meanwhile, teachers need to develop learning methods so that children are more comfortable learning and playing than using gadgets.
