This study aims to analyze strategies for increasing reading interest in developing a literate generation among elementary school students and to identify factors influencing literacy culture within school and family environments. The phenomenon of low reading interest among elementary school students has become a significant concern because the rapid development of digital technology tends to shift students’ attention from reading activities to audiovisual entertainment. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using a case study method at SDN 1 Notoharjo. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and documentation studies. The participants consisted of one classroom teacher and four third-grade students of SDN 1 Notoharjo. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was tested using source triangulation and method triangulation. The findings revealed that literacy strengthening was implemented through morning reading activities, book discussions, the use of visual and digital media such as e-books, and the utilization of reading corners and school libraries. The study also found that students’ reading interest was influenced by the availability of reading materials, the comfort of literacy environments, family support, and the dominant use of gadgets for entertainment purposes. This study contributes scientifically by strengthening the concept of collaborative literacy involving schools, families, and digital technology in developing reading culture among elementary school students. The findings imply the need for more integrated, adaptive, and sustainable literacy programs to improve students’ reading interest in the digital era.

The low interest in reading and learning outcomes of students in Indonesia poses a significant challenge in the education sector. The Kampus Mengajar program has emerged as one of the solutions to enhance literacy and the quality of learning in schools. This article aims to analyze the impact of literacy activities initiated through the Kampus Mengajar program on student learning outcomes using a literature review approach. The research uses a qualitative method in the form of a literature review that examines various relevant sources published between 2020 and 2026. The study's findings indicate that structured literacy activities, such as reading for 15 minutes before lessons, have a significant impact on the improvement of students' cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills. Literacy is not limited to reading and writing skills but also serves as a crucial foundation for developing critical thinking abilities, which are directly correlated with students' academic performance. Therefore, the Kampus Mengajar program can be an important driver to enhance reading interest and the quality of learning, as well as shape a more critical and high-achieving generation in the future.

This community service program aims to develop a local wisdom-based literacy model as an effort to improve students’ reading interest at SD Negeri 025 Samarinda Utara. The low level of reading interest among elementary school students remains a challenge in the implementation of the School Literacy Movement initiated by the Kementerian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi. One of the contributing factors is the lack of contextual reading materials that are relevant to students’ socio-cultural environment. Therefore, integrating local wisdom into literacy activities is considered an innovative strategy to enhance students’ engagement in reading activities. The implementation method included needs analysis, the design of a literacy model, program implementation through storytelling of East Kalimantan folktales, the development of a culturally themed reading corner, and teacher mentoring in integrating literacy into classroom learning. Evaluation was conducted through observation of student participation, reading interest questionnaires, and reflective discussions with teachers. The results indicate an increase in students’ enthusiasm for reading activities, a higher frequency of classroom reading corner utilization, and improved understanding of local cultural values. The local wisdom-based literacy model proved effective in creating a contextual, engaging, and meaningful learning atmosphere. This program is expected to serve as a sustainable model for strengthening literacy culture in elementary schools.

The Low reading interest among elementary school students remains a problem encountered in various rural areas, including at SD Negeri 30 OKU in Batumarta 1 Village, Lubuk Raja District, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency. The limited availability of attractive and easily accessible literacy resources is one of the contributing factors to low student reading habits. This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to increase student reading interest by providing comfortable, educational, and child-friendly reading corners. The implementation method includes initial observation, providing and arranging reading corners, providing age-appropriate reading books, and mentoring and socializing the use of reading corners to students and teachers. The provision of reading corners is carried out through community service activities by university teams or volunteers, by providing bookshelves, various types of story books, children's encyclopedias, and interactive reading materials. To demonstrate the benefits of reading corners, comfort zone arrangements, regular reading schedules, and various literacy games are implemented to increase student engagement. The results of the activity show an increase in student interest in reading activities, as seen from the increased frequency of student visits to the reading corners and active participation in independent reading activities. In addition, teachers also feel the benefits of reading corners as a supporting tool for the learning process. Thus, providing a reading corner can be a simple but effective solution in fostering a culture of literacy and increasing the reading interest of elementary school students in the school environment.

The English Fun Tales program is a community service activity aimed at improving children's English literacy through the use of picture books. This activity was carried out at Rumah Belajar Jadi Mulya, Salatiga, which serves as a non-formal learning center for children from the surrounding area. The background of this program stems from the limited access of children in the area to attractive, interactive, and developmentally appropriate English learning resources. The implementation method includes: (1) providing English picture books selected according to the children's language ability and age; (2) guided shared reading activities; (3) simple discussions about story content to train comprehension; and (4) creative activities such as drawing story characters, role-playing, or story retelling. This approach is designed to combine cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects, so that children not only understand vocabulary and language structure but also develop imagination, self-confidence, and reading interest. The implementation results show an increase in reading interest, expansion of English vocabulary, and children's courage in expressing themselves orally. In addition, social interaction among participants becomes more positive through collaborative activities. This program is expected to serve as a model for English literacy learning based on picture books that can be replicated in other learning communities with local context adjustments.

This study aims to examine the relationship between reading interest and students' speaking skills at the elementary school level using a literature review approach. The background of this study focuses on the importance of reading interest as an element of speaking skills that need to be honed from an early age, and there is a strong assumption that reading interest has a major influence in improving these skills. The method applied is an analysis of five scientific articles found through a search using the keywords "speaking skills", "vocabulary", and "reading interest" on Google Scholar. The results of the study showed that all studies analyzed concluded that there was a significant and positive relationship between reading interest and speaking skills. Students who have a high interest in reading generally show better speaking skills thanks to their rich vocabulary, good sentence structure, and the ability to convey ideas regularly. These findings have important implications for teachers, curriculum developers, and parents to combine reading activities with speaking activities in the educational process. Increasing literacy culture from an early age has been shown to support the development of students' oral communication skills more effectively and sustainably.

The rapid advancement of information technology has encouraged elementary schools to adopt digital systems for managing learning resources, including school libraries. SDN 15 Tangerang still applies a manual library management method, which leads to several issues such as poorly organized loan records, difficulties in locating book data, and low reading interest among students. This study aims to design and develop a digital library information system using the Human Centered Design (HCD) approach, which emphasizes user needs and comfort. The HCD method is implemented through four stages: understanding the context of use, identifying user needs, designing solutions, and evaluating the system. The findings indicate that the developed system improves the efficiency of library management, simplifies the book borrowing and return processes, and provides a better user experience for students and library staff. Therefore, the implementation of an HCD-based digital library information system is expected to support the improvement of literacy and reading interest among elementary school students.
