The background of this research is driven by the vital importance of strengthening democratic values amidst the challenges of globalization and digitalization, which have begun to erode civic consciousness among the younger generation, particularly in the Pasir Pengaraian region. As the flow of unfiltered information increases, there are significant concerns regarding the decline in understanding the essence of participatory democracy and civic ethics. The primary objective of this study is to analyze in depth the strategic role of civic education as a means to preserve democratic ideals and to identify supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation within higher education environments. The research method employed is a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing observations and in-depth interviews with students and academics in Pasir Pengaraian to obtain an objective overview of local political dynamics. Research findings indicate that civic education serves effectively as a pillar of political literacy capable of transforming student perceptions from apathy to active participation, while also serving as a medium for character building that respects diversity of opinion. Furthermore, the integration of local Pasir Pengaraian values with the national curriculum is proven to increase the relevance and absorption of democratic material among students.

The shift in the international political order from a unipolar to a multipolar system has created increasingly complex global security dynamics and the potential for conflicts among states. This condition requires improving international political literacy among civil society, particularly Indonesian youth, so they can critically understand and respond to geopolitical transformations. In response to this urgency, this Community Service Program (PKM) aimed to enhance students’ global issue literacy through the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) Goes To School (FGTS) 5.0 program themed Conflict & Military. The activity was conducted on April 6, 2026, involving 40 eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 97 Jakarta. The implementation method combined interactive lectures with popular culture references to make the material easier for teenagers to understand. Evaluation was conducted through pre-tests and post-tests in the form of multiple-choice quizzes. The material covered the concept of United States national interests, the Board of Peace (BoP) security initiative, Realism Theory, and the conflicts involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. The evaluation results showed that students had strong understanding of popular global issues but limited comprehension of technical aspects related to international institutions, such as the role of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Therefore, future international political literacy programs should focus more on strategic and technical issues that are less familiar to the public.

SOSIAL: Jurnal Ilmiah Pendidikan IPS 2026 Asosiasi Peneliti Dan Pengajar Ilmu Sosial Indonesia

This research is driven by the increasing strength of religion-based identity politics in Indonesia’s post-reform electoral democracy, which creates a dilemma between legitimate political competition and threats to interfaith harmony. The problem formulation of this study concerns how identity politics challenges religious harmony and to what extent harmony can serve as an instrument to reduce polarization and reinforce democratic consolidation. The research questions focus on two main aspects: (1) how the dynamics of harmony are tested by the exploitation of religious issues within electoral contests, and (2) how harmonization strategies can function as social capital in maintaining democratic stability. Using a qualitative approach with a juridical-normative and socio-political framework, this study relies on a literature review involving laws and regulations, court decisions, official state documents, and national and international academic works, combined with content analysis of religiously nuanced political narratives in media and public discourse. The findings indicate that harmony is not a natural social condition but a socio-political construction that is vulnerable to instrumentalization by electoral interests. FKUB and harmony-related regulations tend to remain normative and less effective in the absence of substantive justice. Nonetheless, harmony still holds potential as strategic capital for democracy if it is developed through a framework of justice, religious political literacy, and inclusive democratic governance.

The rise of digital technology has changed how young people access information, including political issues. TikTok, a short-video platform, has become a popular medium for first-time voters to engage with political content. This study aims to describe their understanding of political content on TikTok and its influence on political literacy. Using a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews of six informants in Pekanbaru, findings show that TikTok has potential as an accessible and engaging political literacy tool. However, most informants lacked critical skills in verifying content accuracy. The study concludes that although TikTok increases youth interest in politics, digital literacy and critical thinking must be improved to prevent misinterpretation of information.

Political culture plays an important role in determining the dynamics of general elections, especially in the context of Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) in Indonesia. This research focuses on Ciwaringin Village in Ciwaringin District, Cirebon Regency, which shows low community political participation due to a parochial political culture. People in this village tend to be inactive in the election process, are influenced by the practice of money politics, and choose based on personal closeness and material lures, without understanding the vision and mission of potential leaders. This research uses a qualitative approach with literature study and interview methods to explore the factors that influence political participation, including social, economic, and educational aspects and the use of information media. Findings show that low political literacy and indifference to political issues result in apathy toward elections. Therefore, educational efforts and increasing political awareness are needed to encourage active community participation in the democratic process. It is hoped that this research can contribute to understanding political culture and community participation in Ciwaringin village and promote improvements in implementing the upcoming regional elections.

Conducted over two sessions on November 3 and 10, 2024, the activity employed interactive discussions, lectures, and Biblical reflections that connect Christian values with political participation. Key themes included justice, honesty, servant leadership, and the rejection of money politics. The participants were also invited to reflect on the implementation of the regional elections held on December 8, 2024, as part of their learning process. The results show that the congregation's political awareness improved significantly. Members expressed a deeper understanding of the importance of electing trustworthy leaders who uphold integrity and public service. Furthermore, they demonstrated the courage to reject practices of money politics, indicating the internalization of Christian values in their civic decisions. By exploring democracy through the lens of faith, the congregation developed a more critical, wise, and responsible approach to voting. This initiative highlights the strategic role of the Church in shaping the political awareness of its members through ongoing political education grounded in Christian teachings. Continued efforts are essential to ensure that the congregation remains active in promoting moral leadership and societal transformation, beginning within the church community itself. Ultimately, churches can serve as centers for ethical political formation, equipping believers to contribute meaningfully to national development.

This research uses a qualitative method motivated by the rampant spread of political hoaxes through social media, especially TikTok, which is a popular platform for novice voters. The purpose of this study is to analyze the perceptions and behaviors of Medan State University students towards the North Sumatra Election hoax on TikTok. Data were obtained through an online survey using Google Form, observation, and thematic analysis. The data collected was then analyzed using the New Media Literacy theory by Jenkins et al. (2009). The results revealed that although students are quite adept at using digital media, they still have difficulty verifying political information. Their low political literacy makes them vulnerable to being exposed to and contributing to the spread of hoaxes.

This paper aims to explain the importance of political literacy for Islamic boarding school students (santri) as a means to achieve Indonesia's golden age by 2045. This research focuses on qualitative methods with a literature study approach, focusing on primary data in the form of documentation, including books, journals, articles, and other literature related to political discussions and Islamic boarding school students. The results show that "santri" (literate people) or those seeking religious knowledge in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) must possess broad insight and be tolerant of political apathy. Santri political awareness is essential for them to contribute to improving and strengthening Indonesia's political system with noble religious values. Santri involvement in politics also serves as a means to raise awareness as active citizens, strengthen nationalism, and make politics a form of service, not personal ambition. Politically literate students will be able to face various social and political challenges wisely and contribute to maintaining the nation's stability and progress. Therefore, a joint effort is needed to strengthen political education, both for santri and the general public, so that by 2045, Indonesia will have an intelligent, ethical generation ready to lead the nation towards a bright future.
