Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to insufficient insulin production or ineffective insulin utilization. The prevalence of DM in Indonesia reached 11.7% in the 2023 National Health Survey, with Brebes Regency recording 568 DM cases in 2025 and increasing to 157 cases in Tonjong Village in January 2026. This case study aims to describe comprehensive nursing care for Ny. M, a 52-year-old patient diagnosed with endocrine system disorder (diabetes mellitus), in the family of Tn. I at Karang Anyar Village, Tonjong District, Brebes Regency. The method used was a case study with data collection through interview, observation, physical examination, blood glucose measurement, and literature review conducted on December 26–28, 2025. The assessment found subjective data: the patient frequently felt fatigue, tingling in both legs, excessive thirst, and increased urination frequency. Objective data: pale and fatigued face, blood pressure 150/100 mmHg, pulse 95x/min, respiration 22x/min, temperature 36.7°C, and random blood glucose (RBG) 155 mg/dl. Two nursing diagnoses were established: blood glucose instability and readiness for enhanced knowledge. Interventions implemented included hyperglycemia management (monitoring blood glucose, dietary education, complementary herbal therapy with ginger and honey), and health education regarding DM complications. Evaluation results showed that after 2 days of nursing visits, fatigue decreased, blood glucose improved (RBG 130 mg/dl), and the patient's knowledge about DM complications was resolved.

Diabetes Mellitus Type II is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion. Globally, the number of people with diabetes in 2024 is estimated to reach 800 million, with more than 95% being Type II Diabetes Mellitus. At RSUD Prof. M. Yamin, SH Pariaman in 2025, there were 189 recorded cases of Type II Diabetes Mellitus without complications. The purpose of this scientific paper is to provide nursing care to a patient with Type II Diabetes Mellitus in the Internal Medicine Ward of RSUD Prof. M. Yamin, SH Pariaman. The method used is a case study with a nursing process approach, including observation, interviews, physical examination, and data collection from medical records. This study was conducted in the internal ward for 5 days, from February 6, 2026 to February 10, 2026, with the subject Mrs. N. The assessment results identified nine nursing problems: unstable blood glucose levels, acute pain, impaired skin/tissue integrity, ineffective peripheral perfusion, impaired physical mobility, sleep pattern disturbance, fatigue, risk of infection, and risk of nutritional deficit. The evaluation after 5 days of nursing care showed that five diagnoses were resolved, namely unstable blood glucose levels, ineffective peripheral perfusion, fatigue, risk of infection, and risk of nutritional deficit. Meanwhile, the other four diagnoses were not fully resolved but showed improvement. It is expected that the patient and family will maintain adherence to a healthy lifestyle, therapy, diet, and regular follow-up in order to prevent complications.

Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a chronic metabolic disorder that frequently affects elderly patients and is often accompanied by multiple comorbidities. The increasing prevalence of diabetes in the aging population contributes to higher morbidity and mortality, especially when complicated by geriatric syndromes, electrolyte imbalances, and infections such as pneumonia. This study aims to present a case of type 2 diabetes mellitus in an elderly patient with associated geriatric problems, electrolyte disturbances, and pneumonia. The method used is a descriptive case report based on clinical findings, laboratory examinations, and radiological assessment. A 76-year-old male presented with generalized weakness, weight loss, decreased appetite, respiratory symptoms, and functional decline. Physical examination and laboratory findings revealed uncontrolled diabetes, electrolyte imbalance, hypoalbuminemia, and signs of infection. Chest radiography confirmed pneumonia. Management included pharmacological therapy such as antibiotics, fluid and electrolyte correction, and supportive care, along with non-pharmacological interventions including dietary regulation and monitoring. The findings highlight the complexity of managing elderly patients with multiple comorbid conditions, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach. Early detection and appropriate management are essential to improve clinical outcomes and prevent further complications in geriatric patients with diabetes mellitus.

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to impaired insulin action. Blood glucose control is influenced by various factors, one of which is dietary patterns. Diets that do not adhere to balanced nutrition principles can lead to poor glycemic control and increase the risk of complications. This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample consisted of 95 patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at Sari Asih Karawaci Hospital in 2025, selected using purposive sampling techniques. Dietary pattern data were collected using a questionnaire, while blood glucose level data were obtained from medical examination results. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Contingency Coefficient test. The results showed that most respondents had good dietary patterns (58.9%), and blood glucose levels within the normal category (51.6%). Bivariate analysis using the Contingency Coefficient test indicated a p-value of 0.005, demonstrating a significant relationship between dietary patterns and blood glucose levels in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. There is a significant relationship between dietary patterns and blood glucose levels in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Proper dietary management is an important factor in controlling blood glucose levels and should be a primary focus in nursing care and health education for patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus in the elderly significantly impacts quality of life (QoL) due to physiological changes in aging, comorbidities,and the risk of chronic complications. Nutritional management is considered a key intervention to improve glycemic control and functional status in the elderly.Objective: To review the current evidence regarding the effect of nutritional interventions on the quality of life in elderly with type 2 diabetes mellitus through a Literature Review approach.Methods: The Literature Review was conducted by identifying articles from the Scopus database published in 2020–2025. The review process included screening based on inclusion-exclusion criteria, eligibility assessment, and narrative synthesis of relevant studies,including controlled trials,quasi-experimental studies, observational studies, and systematic observations.Results: From the selected studies, interventions with a low glycemic index diet and a balanced diet have been shown to reduce HbA1c levels and the risk of complications; a multicomponent program combining diet and exercise produces synergistic effects on glucose control, physical function,and quality of life.Structured nutrition education (DSME) and family involvement improve satisfaction and metabolic outcomes.The use of technology (mobile apps) shows potential in monitoring intake and glucose,although digital literacy challenges and limited sample size and study design are often limitations.Conclusion: Targeted nutrition interventions, especially when combined with exercise, education,family support,and age-friendly technology,have the potential to improve metabolic control and quality of life in older adults with T2DM.Recommendation: Large-scale RCTs and more robust longitudinal studies are needed to establish the long-term effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of multicomponent nutrition interventions and technology adaptations for older adults with multimorbidity.

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease with a steadily increasing prevalence in Indonesia. This condition not only affects physical health but also requires patients to make significant lifestyle changes to maintain stable blood glucose levels. Efforts to adopt a healthy lifestyle such as regulating diet, exercising regularly, and managing stress are often met with various challenges. In this context, family support plays a crucial role in helping patients adapt and remain consistent in self-management. This study aims to describe the experiences of type 2 diabetes patients in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and the forms of family support they receive. A qualitative phenomenological approach was used, involving three participants undergoing outpatient treatment at RSUD Sultan Iskandar Muda Nagan Raya. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed thematically. The findings show that patients face challenges in maintaining dietary control, consistent exercise, and emotional balance. However, family support such as reminding patients to take medication, providing healthy meals, and offering emotional motivation serves as a key factor that strengthens patients’ commitment to a healthy lifestyle. The study concludes that the success of diabetes management is highly influenced by active family involvement. Therefore, educational and health intervention programs should integrate families as essential partners in supporting patients with diabetes.

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemia which can lead to serious complications if not properly managed. This community service activity aimed to increase public knowledge regarding diabetes mellitus and its prevention among residents of Rejomulyo Village, Jati Agung District, South Lampung. The method used was health education through lectures supported by leaflets and blood glucose screening, followed by evaluation using pre-test and post-test. A total of 25 community members participated in this activity. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge after the educational intervention. Pre-test results indicated limited understanding of blood glucose control and dietary management, while post-test results showed increased knowledge levels in both aspects. This activity demonstrates that health education is effective in improving community awareness and knowledge regarding diabetes mellitus prevention and management. This educational program is effective in increasing the knowledge of the people of Rejomulyo Village, Jati Agung District, South Lampung Regency regarding diabetes mellitus.

Background: One of the factors that can trigger diabetes mellitus is a diet high in carbohydrates. Therefore, it is important to educate the community to adopt a healthy lifestyle in order to prevent various diseases, particularly diabetes mellitus. Objective: The objective of this health education activity on the prevention and management of diabetes mellitus through the implementation of a healthy lifestyle is to improve the knowledge of families of diabetes mellitus patients regarding prevention and management by applying healthy lifestyle practices. Methods: The activity was carried out for patients and their families using demonstration and discussion methods supported by leaflet media. Results: The counseling activity successfully increased respondents’ knowledge about the importance of preventing and managing diabetes mellitus through the implementation of a healthy lifestyle.Conclusion: Of the four respondents who attended the health education session on the prevention and management of diabetes mellitus through healthy lifestyle implementation, all participants demonstrated an understanding of the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle for preventing and managing diabetes mellitus.

Diabetes mellitus is one of the health problems whose incidence is increasing and is often complained about by people around the world. Globally, Indonesia ranks fifth in the number of diabetes mellitus cases with 19.5 million people. Dietary patterns, including energy intake, carbohydrates, protein, fat, and nutritional status, play a role in the incidence of diabetes mellitus. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between dietary patterns and nutritional status with the incidence of diabetes mellitus at the Bahteramas Regional General Hospital in Southeast Sulawesi Province. The study design used a cross-sectional method with purposive sampling. The study respondents were inpatients aged ≥ 20 years. Data analysis used the chi-square test. The study was conducted in April-May 2025. The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between dietary patterns (p=0.008) and the incidence of diabetes mellitus. However, no significant relationship was found between nutritional status (p=0.421) and the incidence of diabetes mellitus. Thus, it is important to pay attention to nutrient consumption patterns and nutritional status in the prevention and management of diabetes mellitus.

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease with a high prevalence in Indonesia that requires appropriate dietary management to prevent complications. Nutrition education plays a crucial role not only in improving patient knowledge but also in influencing eating behavior and dietary compliance. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of nutrition education on dietary compliance and food waste among hospitalized DM patients at Muhammadiyah Hospital Gresik. This pre-experimental research used a one-group pretest–posttest design involving 20 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The independent variable was nutrition education in the form of counseling, leaflets, and direct guidance, while the dependent variables were dietary compliance and food waste, measured using observation and the food weighing method with a scoring system of 0–25–50–75–100%. The results showed a significant increase in dietary compliance from 30% to 75% and a decrease in food waste from 65% to 20% after education (p < 0.05). Thus, nutrition education effectively improves dietary adherence and reduces food waste among DM patients.

Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion. One of the influencing factors for this condition is lifestyle, particularly dietary patterns and physical activity. Objective: This study aims to describe the dietary patterns and physical activities of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients at Kalisat Regional Hospital (RSD), Jember. Method: The research design used is a case study involving two patients diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation studies, and analyzed using nursing care stages. Results: The study found that both patients consumed high amounts of simple carbohydrates such as sugar, sweet cakes, and noodles, exceeding the normal daily intake limits. Physical activity was minimal, limited to light household chores like cleaning and short-distance walking. Conclusion: Both patients were diagnosed with ineffective health management. Nursing interventions focused on behavioral health education to improve patients’ knowledge and motivation in managing Diabetes Mellitus independently.

Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disorder caused by the pancreas failing to produce insulin hormone adequately. Based on the cause, diabetes mellitus is classified into three types, including type 1 DM, type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, and gestational diabetes mellitus. Hyperglycemia can also occur due to food consumed that is not balanced with physical activity carried out so that fat accumulates in the body and causes blood to be unable to enter the body's cells, ultimately increasing blood sugar levels. Signs and symptoms that often appear in Diabetes Mellitus patients are polydipsia (excessive thirst), polyuria (frequent urination due to excessive urine production), polyphagia (quickly feeling hungry even though you eat a lot and want to eat continuously) and weight loss without a clear cause. Symptoms of diabetes mellitus can be controlled by increasing physical activity, following a healthy diet, and getting enough rest. Several studies have proven that bay leaves have the potential as an antidiabetic. This study aims to determine the content of secondary metabolic compounds and the antidiabetic activity of bay leaf extract using α-amylase enzyme inhibition in vitro. This research method uses laboratory experiments. This study uses α-amylase enzyme inhibition to determine the antidiabetic activity contained in bay leaf extract. The method used is DNSA. The results of this study obtained a yield of bay leaf extract of 30%, water content of simplicia of 6.24%, drying loss of simplicia of 5.3%, ash content test of 5.6%, water content test of extract of 6.34%, drying loss test of extract of 7.03%. Bay leaf extract positively contains secondary metabolite compounds, namely saponins, tannins, flavonoids, and alkaloids. The results of IC50 in bay leaf extract of 66.705 ppm are classified as strong antidiabetic. The results of acarbose of 56.818 ppm are classified as strong antidiabetic.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder whose prevalence continues to rise, making it a major challenge for health systems worldwide. This disease results from a combination of insulin resistance and impaired pancreatic β-cell function, leading to persistent hyperglycemia and increased risk of long-term complications affecting the kidneys, cardiovascular system, nervous system, and eyes. This report describes the case of a 52-year-old woman diagnosed with T2DM for approximately ten years. The patient presented with fatigue, nocturnal polyuria, nausea after meals, significant weight loss, and tingling in her extremities. Laboratory findings revealed an HbA1c level of 12%, reflecting very poor glycemic control. A family medicine approach was applied through detailed history taking, physical and laboratory examinations, home visits, and completion of a family folder to assess clinical, personal, social, and functional aspects. Interventions included counseling on balanced diet, encouragement of regular physical activity, education on diabetic foot care, and pharmacological treatment with metformin and insulin. The family received counseling about hereditary risk factors, the importance of emotional support, and the need for consistent monitoring of health status. The patient was still capable of light daily activities, supported by a highly functional family environment with an APGAR score of 10. A holistic family medicine–based approach was shown to improve treatment adherence, patient knowledge, and overall quality of life. Obesity among college students is a public health issue that is gaining increasing attention because it is associated with an increased risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and heart disease, and can reduce quality of life and academic productivity. College students, as a group of early adults, are in a transition phase towards independence and are therefore vulnerable to lifestyle changes, including unhealthy eating patterns, fast food consumption, low physical activity due to busy studies, irregular sleep habits, and high academic stress. This study aims to determine the risk factors associated with obesity among students at the Islamic University of Ogan Komering Ilir in 2025. This study used a cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach. A sample of 95 students was selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and body mass index (BMI) measurement to determine respondents' nutritional status. Independent variables included diet, physical activity, sleep quality, stress levels, and a family history of obesity. The results showed a prevalence of obesity of 17.9%. Bivariate analysis found a significant association between obesity and unhealthy diet (p=0.002), low physical activity (p=0.000), poor sleep quality (p=0.000), and high stress levels (p=0.001). Meanwhile, a family history of obesity showed a tendency to have an effect but was not statistically significant. These findings indicate that obesity in college students is largely influenced by modifiable lifestyle factors. Therefore, this study emphasizes the importance of health promotion interventions on campus, such as balanced nutrition counseling, increased access to sports facilities, stress management, and education on healthy sleep patterns. Promotive and preventive efforts undertaken from a young age are expected to reduce the risk of obesity and chronic disease in the future.

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disease that is currently a major public health problem in Indonesia. The prevalence of DM continues to increase from year to year, not only in urban areas but also increasingly found in rural areas. One factor contributing to the high number of DM cases is a lack of public awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle, as well as the continued presence of many undiagnosed cases, resulting in delayed treatment. Therefore, early detection efforts and health education that can reach the community at the community level are needed. This community service program was designed to conduct random blood sugar screenings while increasing the knowledge of residents of RW 15 Kalibaru regarding the prevention and control of DM. The activity was carried out on August 24, 2025, involving 21 participants, most of whom were from adults to the elderly. The activity method consisted of two main stages: checking blood sugar levels using a glucometer and a health education session on a healthy lifestyle, a balanced diet, and the importance of regular physical activity. The results of the activity showed that the indicators of success were well achieved. This was indicated by the orderly implementation of the examinations, a high level of participation from residents, and increased awareness of the dangers of DM among participants. From the examination results, most participants had normal blood sugar levels, but several people were found with blood sugar levels above the normal limit who required medical follow-up.

A 60-year-old male patient presented with the chief complaint of numbness in both legs, which had been experienced for the past two years and had worsened over the last three months. This complaint was accompanied by persistent fatigue, even without engaging in strenuous physical activity. In addition, the patient reported frequent urination, especially at night (nocturia), and excessive thirst that had occurred for the past five years. The patient denied symptoms such as fever or disturbances in bowel movements. Regarding his medical history, the patient regularly consumed Glimepiride as part of his treatment for diabetes mellitus. Primary data were obtained through auto-anamnesis and physical examination during a home visit. During the visit, the family physician also completed the family folder and patient records to comprehensively document the patient’s health condition. Case assessment was carried out based on an initial holistic diagnosis, followed by continuous monitoring and final evaluation using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The interventions provided included health education for the patient and his family regarding the causes and pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus. The physician also emphasized lifestyle modifications, such as adopting a balanced diet, engaging in light but regular physical activity, and maintaining adherence to prescribed medication. Furthermore, the patient was educated on the long-term management of diabetes mellitus and the importance of regular medical check-ups. The family physician also explained the potential complications that could arise, such as neuropathy, nephropathy, and retinopathy, so that the patient would be more compliant with treatment and preventive efforts. This comprehensive approach was expected to improve the patient’s quality of life while preventing further disease progression.

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease and a global health problem with an increasing prevalence that often leads to serious complications if not well controlled. Optimal self-care behavior, including diet regulation, physical activity, blood glucose monitoring, and adherence to medication, plays a crucial role in maintaining stable blood glucose levels and improving quality of life. Objective: This study aims to investigate the relationship between self-care behavior and blood glucose levels among individuals diagnosed with diabetes mellitus who are receiving treatment at Kedungwuni 1 Public Health Center. Methods: This research employed an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 109 respondents diagnosed with DM were selected through total sampling. Data on self-care behavior were collected using the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA) questionnaire, while blood glucose levels were measured using a glucometer. Data were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test with a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: The findings showed that most respondents demonstrated poor self-care behavior (72.5%) and almost half were within the diabetes range of blood glucose levels (49.5%). Bivariate analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between self-care behavior and blood glucose levels (p = 0.000; r = 0.547). Conclusion: Better self-care behavior is associated with better blood glucose control. These results emphasize the importance of strengthening health education and self-management programs to improve self-care practices in diabetic patients.

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to impaired insulin secretion or function. The prevalence of diabetes continues to increase in Indonesia, particularly among adults and the elderly, requiring comprehensive and sustainable management. Diabetes management is not limited to pharmacological therapy but also includes non-pharmacological approaches such as dietary management, physical activity, and health education. One form of physical activity recommended for diabetes sufferers is diabetes exercise. This study aims to determine the effect of diabetes exercise on reducing blood glucose levels in diabetes mellitus patients enrolled in the Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis) at the Gunungpati Community Health Center (Puskesmas). The study used a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design. A total of 30 respondents were randomly selected from the Prolanis patient population, and blood glucose levels were measured before and after the diabetes exercise intervention. The intervention was carried out routinely and structured over a certain period. The analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test showed a statistically significant decrease in blood glucose levels after diabetes exercise, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The average blood glucose level decreased from 260.27 mg/dL to 211.33 mg/dL. This study concluded that diabetes exercise is effective as a non-pharmacological intervention in helping control blood glucose levels. Therefore, routine implementation of diabetes exercise in primary healthcare facilities needs to be promoted as a simple, effective, and affordable promotive and preventive strategy.

Obesity, central obesity, and hypercholesterolemia are prevalent yet often unrecognized health conditions that significantly elevate the risk for various non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and cardiovascular disorders. These conditions, when left undiagnosed and untreated, contribute to the growing public health burden worldwide. This community service program was designed to raise awareness and provide early detection of these conditions through basic health screening measures, including body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, and blood cholesterol levels. The program was implemented in Tomang Subdistrict, West Jakarta, where 90 participants were involved. The findings from the screening revealed concerning results: 67% of the participants were classified as obese, and 58% had central obesity, both of which are major risk factors for NCDs. A deeper analysis of lifestyle factors highlighted that high-fat diets, sedentary behaviors, and night shift work were significant contributors to the high rates of obesity and metabolic abnormalities observed. The educational outreach component of the program, which included the provision of information about healthy diets, exercise, and the importance of regular health screenings, proved to be effective in raising awareness about these health issues. Moreover, the simple health screening process was well-received by the community and contributed to a greater understanding of individual health risks. This initiative is expected to serve as a sustainable model for promoting health and preventing metabolic diseases in the community. The findings underscore the importance of early detection and education as critical strategies in the fight against obesity and related NCDs, suggesting that such programs can play a key role in reducing the future burden of chronic diseases in underserved populations

One of the key indicators of nation’s health development is life expectancy, which reflects the overall quality of public health. As life expectancy increases, the prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) also tends to rise, with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) being one of the most common. In Indonesia, the number of individuals with Type 2 DM has reached approximately 10.7 million, and this figure is projected to increase significantly to 21.3 million cases by 2030, posing a serious public health challenge. This study aimed to describe the process of clinical nutrition care based on the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) for a patient diagnosed with Radiculopathy accompanied by Non-Insulin-Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (without complications), Essential (Primary) Hypertension, Spondylosis, and Spinal Stenosis, through the application of a regulated diabetic diet (DM RG) during hospitalization. The case study was conducted in November 2024 at RSI Ayani Surabaya and involved systematic monitoring of food intake and clinical outcomes during treatment. Findings indicated that within three days of observation, the patient’s dietary intake reached the target goals, demonstrating effective implementation of the prescribed meal plan. From physical and clinical monitoring, a notable decrease in blood pressure was observed on the second and third days, suggesting improvements in cardiovascular response to dietary management. Additionally, the patient’s temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation remained within the normal range throughout the treatment period, further supporting the effectiveness of the intervention. These results emphasize the importance of structured nutrition care in managing patients with multiple comorbidities, particularly those with diabetes and hypertension, as dietary regulation plays a central role in stabilizing health conditions. Overall, the study demonstrates that the application of the NCP framework combined with consistent monitoring can lead to positive patient outcomes and highlights its potential as a model for improving clinical nutrition management in hospital settings.
