Kali Baru Lake is a community-based pilot tourism destination in Bekasi City managed by the Kali Baru Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis Danau Indah Kalibaru). Preliminary observations indicate that destination management still faces limited human resource capacity, inadequate safety facilities, and the absence of a structured risk management document as a governance instrument. This community service program aims to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Pokdarwis through assistance in developing a risk management document, tourism safety training, formulation of operational standard operating procedures (SOPs), and enhancement of risk communication. The implementation method applied a participatory approach consisting of initial assessment, training, document development workshops, implementation of safety-supporting facilities, and evaluation. The results show the completion of a risk management document based on hazard identification and mitigation, the establishment of several safety and operational SOPs, the availability of risk communication media, and improved knowledge and skills of Pokdarwis members in managing sustainable tourism destinations. This program contributes to strengthening destination governance professionalism, enhancing tourism safety, and improving the readiness of Kali Baru Lake as a safe and sustainable community-based tourism destination.

Tourism is one of the sectors that plays an important role in boosting economic growth through travel activities and destination exploration. Tourists' preferences for nature-based tourism options, such as mountain hiking or beach tourism, are influenced by various factors, ranging from personal experiences and recreational interests to social characteristics. Therefore, a technology-based approach is needed to predict destination choice tendencies more accurately. As artificial intelligence technology develops, deep learning methods have been widely used in classification processes due to their ability to process large amounts of data and recognize complex patterns. In this study, a Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) model is used to classify tourists' preferences between mountain or beach destinations based on a survey dataset. The research stages include data processing, data splitting using a train-test split, model training, and performance evaluation using accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. The test results show that the MLP model is capable of achieving an accuracy rate of 99%, confirming that deep learning methods are effective in automatically mapping tourism preference trends. This research is expected to serve as a basis for the development of more personalized travel destination recommendation systems, as well as to support tourism management in formulating targeted promotional strategies.

This study aims to determine the strategy of the Tourism Office in developing the Pandaratan Beach tourist destination, Sarudik District, Central Tapanuli Regency. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through direct field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation of a number of informants deemed relevant, namely the Tourism Office, Pokdarwis, the community as managers, business actors, and tourists. The results show that the Tourism Office's strategy in developing Pandaratan Beach has been formulated based on the Central Tapanuli Regency Tourism Office's strategic plan (Renstra). This strategy focuses on equitable distribution of development infrastructure with a superior commodity-based approach, which aims to support tourist attractions and increase the contribution of the tourism sector to regional development. The strategy implementation is realized through various programs, including proposing basic infrastructure development, human resource development through training, destination promotion through social media, development of natural tourism products, and the formation and empowerment of tourism awareness groups (Pokdarwis) as drivers of tourism awareness campaigns. The implications of this study indicate that the development of Pandaratan Beach has not been fully optimal and still faces several obstacles, such as limited supporting facilities, less than optimal tourism services, and uneven community participation, so that the impact on the quality of tourism services, increasing community participation, and the sustainability of the destination still needs to be strengthened. Therefore, a comprehensive and sustainable strengthening of the strategy is needed through cooperation from related parties so that the Pandaratan Beach tourist destination can develop more optimally based on superior commodities.

This study aims to assess the quality and impact of supporting tourism facilities at Sisingamangaraja XII International Airport in strengthening the development of Lake Toba as a Super Priority Destination. The airport holds a strategic role as the main gateway for tourists visiting the Lake Toba area, making the quality of services and the completeness of facilities crucial aspects in creating a memorable travel experience. The research employed a qualitative approach with data collected through in-depth interviews with key informants, direct field observations, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the (SERVQUAL) model, which evaluates five key dimensions: tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. The findings reveal that the airport has provided several tourism-supporting facilities, including ground transportation services, food and beverage outlets, as well as souvenir and gift shops. However, the implementation of these facilities has not yet reached optimal performance. Identified challenges include the limited choice of transportation options to and from various tourist destinations, the lack of authentic Lake Toba culinary offerings at food and beverage outlets, and the insufficient promotion of local products at souvenir shops. Furthermore, the absence of essential services such as travel agencies and money changers has negatively affected convenience, particularly for international tourists who require accessible information, transactions, and travel services. These findings indicate that improving supporting facilities at Sisingamangaraja XII International Airport is an urgent necessitySuch efforts are expected to enhance the quality of airport services, increase tourist satisfaction, and ultimately reinforce Lake Toba’s position as a leading national and international tourism destination.

This study examines the contribution of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) actors in supporting community economic empowerment through their strategic role in strengthening tourist attractions in two destinations in East Java, namely religious tourism of Cheng Hoo Mosque Pasuruan and natural educational tourism of Jati Sewu Gresik. This research is based on the reality of tourist destinations that are the target of the study, where the role of MSMEs in both areas reflects a significant role in strengthening tourist attractions in destinations for visitors. Cheng Hoo Mosque Pasuruan and Jati Sewu Gresik have become new growing spaces for MSMEs that not only sell food, drinks, or tourist services, but also convey the distinctive values of the destination to visitors through direct interaction and the products sold. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a content analysis approach. The data collected was obtained from participatory observations in the field directly with MSME actors, and supported by secondary data obtained from various online sources such as news articles, tourism websites, and official information from the two related destinations. The results show that MSMEs in these two tourist destinations not only play a role in enriching the variety of attractions offered to tourists, but also play an important role in supporting the economy of the surrounding community. This study discusses how tourist attractions play a role in shaping destination identity through the integration of cultural, educational, and natural values. The focus of the study is directed at three tourist locations in East Java, namely Pari Temple, Surabaya Museum, and Pandawa Valley. All three represent different models of attractions—from historical sites with spiritual nuances, educational museums in the middle of the city, to thematically designed family recreation parks. The method used is a qualitative descriptive approach with a comparative case study, through observation, documentation, and semi-structured interviews.  The results of the study show that each location has its own way of constructing destination identity. Pari Temple emphasizes cultural continuity and sacred nuances. Surabaya Museum builds city identity through interactive historical education. Pandawa Valley offers a visual and emotional experience that is close to family tourists. All three show that destination identity is formed from a combination of design elements, cultural symbols, and visitor experiences. This study recommends strengthening local narratives and approaches that unite cultural, educational, and natural values in sustainable tourism development.

As one of the oldest heritage tourism sites in Indonesia, KBS (Kebun Binatang Surabaya) faces challenges in sustaining its relevance and competing with other modern tourism offerings. The sustainability of KBS is largely influenced by the image communication strategies used to market the zoo and attract family tourists. This study aims to assess the communication strategies along with social media promotion, as well as the tourists’ experience regarding their visit. The data collection technique was field observation, digital documentation analysis, and interviews using a semi-structured format which was analyzed descriptively qualitatively. Research findings indicate that KBS has social media and stakeholder collaboration as main promo media and, education as the fundamental pull factor. Moreover, despite its strengths, KBS suffers from gaps in destination branding and lack of innovation in digital on-site experience. A competitive repositioning by building a unique identifiable brand through, integrated and comprehensive communication strategies was proposed for the use of KBS as a family-friendly competitive educational tourism site.
