The internationalization of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) has become a strategic issue in addressing global economic dynamics, particularly within the framework of the Global Value Chain (GVC) in the digital age. Although Indonesian MSMEs have great potential to support the national economy, their level of involvement in the global value chain remains relatively limited. This study aims to analyze the challenges and strategies for the internationalization of Indonesian MSMEs within the GVC in the digital age. The study employs a qualitative approach using a case study design, along with thematic analysis and value chain analysis techniques. The findings indicate that MSMEs are already involved in the GVC across various stages of the value chain—from raw material processing to global distribution—yet they continue to face numerous challenges, such as technological limitations, human resource competencies, production capacity, and international distribution networks. On the other hand, digitalization has proven to be a key factor in expanding access to global markets through the use of digital platforms. An effective internationalization strategy requires the integration of product innovation based on local resources, the utilization of digital technology, and the strengthening of global business networks. This study contributes to integrating the perspectives of GVCs, digitalization, and SME internationalization strategies into a comprehensive analytical framework, and provides practical implications for SME actors and policymakers in enhancing competitiveness in the global market

Increasingly digitalised and globally integrated market competition demands that micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) no longer merely excel in local markets, but are also capable of building sustainable competitiveness in broader markets. Recent literature indicates that innovation, digital capabilities, and international networks are increasingly viewed as strategic determinants of MSME competitiveness, although the relationships between these variables are often examined in isolation and are not always consistent. This study aims to analyse the influence of innovation, digital capabilities, and international networks on the global competitiveness of MSMEs. The research employs an explanatory quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample consists of 200 owners or principal managers of SMEs in East Java, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected via a structured questionnaire and analysed using Structural Equation Modelling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results of the analysis indicate that innovation, digital capabilities, and international networks have a positive and significant influence on the global competitiveness of SMEs. The path coefficient values indicate that digital capabilities are the strongest predictor, followed by international networks and innovation. These findings confirm that strengthening the global competitiveness of MSMEs requires an integrated strategy that links value renewal, digital transformation, and the sustainable development of external networks.

This study aims to analyze the influence of digital marketing through Instagram on purchasing decisions at UMKM Jamu Bu Bekti in Karawang Regency. The research uses a quantitative approach, with data collected through questionnaires distributed to consumers who have seen or purchased the products. The data analysis technique applied is regression analysis to examine the relationship between marketing content and promotional variables on consumer purchasing decisions. The results show that marketing content shared on Instagram does not have a significant effect on purchasing decisions. However, the content is considered quite attractive, informative, and helpful in providing product information to consumers. On the other hand, promotion has a positive and significant impact on increasing consumer interest and encouraging purchasing decisions. This indicates that consumers are more responsive to promotional strategies such as discounts, bonuses, or special offers rather than relying solely on content quality. These findings suggest that promotional strategies play a crucial role in digital marketing, especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Therefore, business owners are advised to focus more on creating attractive, creative, and targeted promotional activities on social media to boost sales. This study is expected to contribute to the development of more effective, efficient, and sustainable digital marketing strategies for SMEs in the future.

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a crucial role in Indonesia's economy but face significant challenges in maintaining consistent and sustainable performance amidst changing market dynamics. This study aims to explore how self-efficacy and entrepreneurial motivation influence MSME performance in Malang City using an exploratory phenomenological qualitative approach. Twelve informants with at least two years of business experience and active operations were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, analyzed using an inductive approach, and processed until data saturation was reached. The study found that MSME actors' self-efficacy is shaped by accumulated real experiences, including both successes and failures, which contribute to meaningful learning. Entrepreneurial motivation rooted in personal values was found to be stronger and more enduring than extrinsic motivation. The study identified a cyclical interaction between self-efficacy and motivation, reinforcing each other in fostering adaptive entrepreneurial behavior. Additionally, external factors such as family support, entrepreneurial communities, and government programs play a significant role in sustaining these psychological factors. This research contributes to entrepreneurship literature and offers practical recommendations for stakeholders to design more holistic MSME empowerment programs with tangible impact.

UMKM Kerupuk Subur is one of the SMEs quite well-known for its cracker products and is located at Jl. Gedongkuning Gg. Nuri No.66, RT.2/RW.33, Wonocatur, Banguntapan, Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. Product packaging is one of the important factors in maintaining the quality of the crackers to keep them crispy and not easily soggy. Currently, UMKM Kerupuk Subur still uses ordinary plastic packaging that is only tied with a string, so its protection against physical damage and product quality deterioration is still limited. Besides functioning as a protector, product packaging also serves as a consumer attraction that can influence purchasing decisions. In 2024, UMKM Kerupuk Subur experienced a production and sales decline of 4.58 percent, which is suspected to be influenced by packaging factors. This study aims to develop Kerupuk Subur packaging based on customer criteria and needs. The Green Quality Function Deployment approach is used to obtain comprehensive information in designing packaging according to consumer needs and preferences. The results of identifying consumer needs show priorities such as packaging that is easy to open, resealable, transparent, environmentally friendly, durable, and tear-resistant. Based on these needs, packaging development alternatives were designed, including an easy-open system, durable and tear-resistant packaging, and resealable packaging to maintain product quality and crispness. Then, testing was conducted with 50 respondents to assess consumer satisfaction. The level of consumer satisfaction falls into the satisfied category, with an average score of 4.18, where 80% of respondents stated they were satisfied or very satisfied with the designed packaging prototype.

This MSME focuses on traditional kuda kepang crafts that have economic and cultural value as a support for local performing arts. The method applied is a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through observation and direct interviews with the business owner. The data reviewed includes the production process, production capacity, cost structure, selling price, revenue, and marketing system. The results of the study indicate that the Kuda Kepang Mas Bagong MSME has consistent market demand, especially for medium-sized kuda kepang products. However, production capacity limitations due to the use of one worker are a major obstacle in increasing business turnover. In addition, cash budget management is still carried out in a simple and unorganized manner, so the potential for liquidity control and financial planning has not reached an optimal level. This study concludes that developing a more organized cash budget and increasing production capacity can be a key strategy in improving the financial performance and sustainability of the Kuda Kepang Mas Bagong MSME.

This study investigates the influence of financial literacy, entrepreneurship training, and financial inclusion on the performance of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through business sustainability. Using a systematic literature review (SLR) examines the impact of financial literacy, entrepreneurship training, and financial inclusion on MSME performance through business sustainability mediation by synthesizing empirical data from 12 research (2020–2025) across Scopus and Web of Science. Positive direct effects on sustainability (financial literacy via budgeting/risk management; training via adaptive resilience; inclusiveness via digital access) and performance metrics like profitability/growth are confirmed by results using the PRISMA 2020 flow.  Amid obstacles like financial access restrictions and COVID-19 disruptions, business sustainability appears as a crucial mediator, linking these factors to improved MSME results in developing contexts (Africa, Indonesia). Practical implications compel policymakers to give integrated literacy programs, contextual training, and inclusive finance top priority. Theoretical contributions combine financial literacy, entrepreneurial learning, and sustainability ideas into a holistic mediation model. The results highlight the importance of integrating financial education, entrepreneurial skill development, and inclusive financial systems to strengthen MSME resilience and competitiveness. This study provides practical implications for policymakers, financial institutions, and support organisations in designing effective interventions that foster sustainable business growth. The research also contributes theoretically by confirming the mediating role of business sustainability in the relationship between financial literacy, entrepreneurship training, financial inclusion, and MSME performance. Future studies may expand these insights by examining additional contextual factors such as digital technology adoption and business networking that further support sustainable MSME development.

This study aims to examine the influence of product innovation, digital marketing, and business networking on the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with customer engagement positioned as a mediating variable. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, thirty Scopus-indexed articles published between 2020 and 2025 were analysed to synthesise theoretical and empirical insights related to SME competitiveness in contemporary digital and urban business environments. The findings indicate that product innovation, digital marketing, and business networking each play a significant role in strengthening SME competitiveness, particularly within markets characterised by rapid technological change. Customer engagement emerges as a critical mediating mechanism that connects these strategic variables to sustainable competitive advantage. It enhances the impact of innovative and digital strategies by fostering stronger emotional, behavioural, and participative interactions between SMEs and their customers. The review also highlights that SMEs adopting integrated digital management practices, such as the utilisation of human-resource information systems (HRIS) and data-driven decision-making tend to demonstrate greater adaptability, market responsiveness, and long-term performance. The study contributes theoretically by integrating resource-based and dynamic capability perspectives, offering a holistic understanding of how digital and relational capabilities interact to elevate competitiveness. Practically, the findings provide strategic guidance for policymakers, SME managers, and practitioners in designing innovation-oriented and digitally enabled initiatives that support sustainable SME growth in the digital era.

The rapidly changing and increasingly uncertain business environment presents significant challenges for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), requiring them to adapt quickly and strategically to survive and remain competitive. This conceptual article examines the role of business models as an effective adaptation strategy for MSMEs in responding to dynamic market conditions, technological change, and shifting consumer preferences. Through a comprehensive review of various business model frameworks and dynamic capability theories, this study emphasizes that business models play a crucial role in shaping organizational flexibility and strategic responsiveness. The findings highlight that adaptable value propositions enable MSMEs to continuously align their offerings with evolving customer needs, while agile resource management allows firms to efficiently reconfigure internal and external resources. Furthermore, continuous business model innovation and renewal are identified as essential mechanisms for sustaining long-term resilience and competitiveness. The article argues that a business model should not be viewed merely as an operational or administrative tool, but rather as a core strategic mechanism that integrates strategic vision, organizational capabilities, and market orientation. By actively leveraging flexible and innovative business models, MSMEs can enhance their adaptive capacity, mitigate environmental uncertainty, and achieve sustainable competitive advantage in rapidly changing business environments.

The growth of online shopping has encouraged brands to utilize live-streaming as a promotional tool to attract consumers, including Parfumoist in Lampung, which actively broadcasts product demonstrations to increase audience engagement. However, whether these broadcasts truly build trust and stimulate purchase intention remains uncertain, forming the central problem of this research. The research tried to analyze the influence of interactivity, visualization, entertainment, and professionalization during live-streaming on consumer trust and purchase intention. Using Stimulus-Organism-Response framework, live-streaming elements are positioned as stimuli, trust as the organism, and purchase intention as the response. A quantitative approach was employed, with purposive sampling of viewers who watched Parfumoist live streams and had made or intended to make a purchase. Data from an online questionnaire then analyzed with SEM-PLS. The findings reveal all four dimensions of live-streaming significantly affect purchase intention, mediated through consumer trust. The findings highlight that effective live-streaming depends not only on frequent broadcasts, but also on the ability of the host to interact meaningfully, present attractive visuals, entertain viewers, and display professionalism. This study concludes that improving the overall quality of live-stream sessions strengthens trust and intention to buy, offering theoretical implications for digital marketing research and practical recommendations for MSMEs to optimize live-streaming strategies in competitive markets.
