Literary works are not only created for entertainment, but also to describe human life, which is full of values and moral issues. William Shakespeare's play ‘Timon of Athens’, which shows how a person is tested when betrayed by wealth, power, and friendship. This study aims to examine how morality is depicted in the play using Friedrich Nietzsche's theory of ‘master morality’ and ‘slave morality’. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method by analysing excerpts from the dialogue in the play “Timon of Athens” that demonstrate moral values. The results show that this play mostly depicts slave morality (65%), as Timon transforms from a kind and proud figure into someone filled with hatred and resentment after being betrayed. Meanwhile, master morality (35%) appears at the beginning of the story when he is still strong, confident, and generous. According to Nietzsche, master morality reflects strength, pride, independence, and the ability to create one’s own values, while slave morality emerges from weakness, suffering, and resentment as a reaction to disappointment or oppression. Overall, Timon of Athens illustrates how life changes and deep betrayal can cause a shift from the confidence and generosity of master morality to the bitterness and hatred found in slave morality.  

This study employs the formalism theory. Furthermore, aligning with it, the used of  qualitative method  to embark the information inherently exists as linguistic. It bears relevance to the focus of this research, that being novels, with the researcher endeavoring to scrutinize the characters' perspectives, viewpoints, and conduct within their fictional environment. The novel, The Awakening is utter the journey of unique married woman, Mrs. Edna Pontellier, to unfold the secret of ‘Edna’. From the analysis indicated there were two major ironies which majorly decorated the progress of the story, and those are ‘life and death’ and ‘innocence and maturity’. By bringing ‘Edna’ the main character, into a consciousness, she would awaken from seemingly an innocent woman through challenging journey to acknowledge maturity in herself.  Even though, ironically, in order to maintain her ’life’ in the end she has to face ‘death’ but at least she had been tried to complete her journey to be an whole self.  

This study explores the role of English in supporting the academic and professional development of management students, based on the lecturer’s reflections as both lecturer and researcher. As English becomes increasingly important in global education and employment, many students are required to read academic materials, complete assignments, and communicate using English. This study focuses on how English for Specific Purposes (ESP), especially Business English, helps students build discipline-related skills and prepare for real workplace communication. Using an autoethnographic approach, the researcher collected data from self-interviews, reflective teaching journals, and informal student feedback over one semester. Thematic analysis was used to identify patterns in the lecturer’s experiences and observations. The findings show that English supports students’ academic growth by helping them understand textbooks, research articles, and business case studies. Students gained confidence in reading and presenting academic information after completing guided tasks. The results also indicate that ESP based on activities such as email writing, meeting simulations, and presentations strengthened students’ employability skills. These tasks helped students feel more prepared for internships and early career responsibilities. Additionally, the study highlights the importance of reflective teaching. By analyzing classroom challenges and student needs, the lecturer was able to improve teaching strategies, select more authentic materials, and provide better support for learners. This research shows that integrating ESP with employability goals can create meaningful learning experiences for management students. When English teaching is connected to real professional contexts, students develop both language proficiency and practical communication skills. The study also encourages lecturers to use reflection as a tool to enhance teaching quality and better support students’ academic and career preparation.

Instagram has become one of the most influential digital platforms for the construction and dissemination of lifestyle meanings, particularly through the presence of social media influencers. Among various lifestyle narratives, luxury is one of the most dominant and ideologically loaded representations circulated by influencers. This study examines how luxury is represented, constructed, and naturalized in the Instagram content of female Indonesian influencers using Roland Barthes’ semiotic framework. The object of this research consists of visual and textual Instagram posts that display luxury-related lifestyles, including fashion, travel, leisure, and consumption practices. The main problem addressed in this study concerns how signs of luxury operate at the levels of denotation, connotation, and myth to shape audience perceptions of success, femininity, and social status. The objective of this research is to reveal the ideological meanings embedded in influencer content and to explain how luxury is transformed into a normalized and desirable lifestyle. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method with semiotic analysis. Data were collected through purposive sampling of Instagram posts from selected female Indonesian influencers with significant follower engagement. The findings show that luxury is represented not merely through high-priced commodities but through symbolic systems involving aesthetics, body presentation, spatial settings, and narrative captions. At the mythological level, luxury is naturalized as the result of personal effort, self-discipline, and modern femininity, thereby obscuring structural inequalities and reinforcing consumerist ideology. This study concludes that Instagram influencers function as cultural agents who reproduce dominant myths of success and luxury in digital culture.

This study aims to analyze the forms of assertive persuasion found in a collection of song lyrics by The Peal by employing a pragmatic approach, specifically Searle’s classification of speech acts. The focus of the research is to examine how the lyrics represent assertive functions as a means of conveying messages, attitudes, and perspectives intended by the songwriter. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method involving several stages: listening closely to the lyrics, identifying linguistic indicators of assertive persuasion, and explaining the meanings and communicative functions embedded in the utterances.The findings reveal that six selected songs by The Peal contain various forms of assertive persuasion. The song Isak Tangis demonstrates an assertive act of warning, while Berbahagialah reflects an act of suggesting. The song Porak Poranda represents the act of complaining, whereas Kehancuran shows elements of asserting or criticizing. The song Cinta Mana yang Kau Bela? contains elements of boasting, and Belum Waktunya reflects the act of reporting or presenting information. These results indicate that The Peal’s song lyrics function not only as artistic expressions but also as persuasive communicative media that convey social and emotional messages through diverse assertive speech acts.

This classroom action research (CAR) aims to improve students’ English-speaking skills in formal communication contexts. The study focuses on second-semester students of the Business and Professional Communication Study Program at Politeknik Negeri Madiun in the 2024/2025 academic year. The main problem addressed is the students’ low ability to speak English formally and fluently. The objective is to determine whether watching YouTube videos can enhance students’ formal speaking performance. The research employed both qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative data were obtained from students’ performance scores before and during the implementation, while quantitative data were gathered through observations, questionnaires, and interviews to compare pre-test and post-test results. The intervention used several active viewing techniques, including active viewing, freeze framing and prediction, silent viewing, and reproduction activity. The findings indicate a consistent improvement in students’ speaking abilities across all research cycles. The average scores increased from 61.1 in the pre-test, to 63.6 in post-test Cycle I, 66.6 in Cycle II, and 70.0 in Cycle III. These results demonstrate that integrating YouTube videos with active viewing techniques effectively enhances students’ formal speaking competence. In conclusion, the use of interactive video-based learning can significantly support the development of English-speaking skills in formal contexts for vocational students.

This research is motivated by the low quality of learning in various educational units, one of the causes of which is the gap between curriculum design and classroom implementation. A good curriculum will not have a significant impact without effective implementation by teachers. Therefore, curriculum implementation plays a strategic role as a link between macro-level education policies and classroom learning practices. This study aims to analyze the impact of curriculum implementation on learning quality, identify supporting and inhibiting factors, and formulate strategies to strengthen learning quality. The method used is descriptive qualitative, using observation, interviews, and documentation techniques with teachers, principals, and elementary school students. The results show that the implementation of a flexible curriculum, such as the Independent Curriculum, encourages a shift from teacher-centered to student-centered learning, which increases student motivation and engagement through project-based learning and authentic assessment. However, teacher preparedness, limited infrastructure, and administrative burdens remain major obstacles. Authentic assessment has been shown to improve students' critical thinking skills and creativity, but requires consistent managerial support. The implication is that improving the quality of learning must be accompanied by strengthening teacher competency, the availability of resources, and adaptive school management so that curriculum transformation has a real impact on the quality of national education

Language as a sign system has a primary function in conveying meaning, and poetry is the medium of linguistic expression richest in such meaning. Darwish's poem, through dense diction, depicts empathy, humanity, and the struggle of the Palestinian people by inviting readers to "think of the other." This study uses a descriptive-qualitative method with library techniques, where data is taken from the text of Fakkir Bighairik's poem and analyzed based on the theory of denotative and connotative meaning. The results show that the denotative meaning in this poem conveys a direct and straightforward message, while the connotative meaning provides emotional, social, and moral depth that strengthens the humanitarian message. The combination of these two meanings creates a poetic effect that awakens readers' awareness of solidarity and universal human values. In addition, this poem also invites readers to reflect on their role in the humanitarian struggle and reminds them of the importance of fighting for human rights amidst conflict.

This qualitative case study examines how the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach can be adapted to general English classes in a higher education institution in Timor-Leste to answer the long-standing question of how students can acquire speaking proficiency in a multilingual learning environment. The paper brings into focus the incorporation of CLT into classroom activities with special emphasis on the application of role play, pair work, seminars, simulations, and task-based learning as means of promoting interactive and communicative competence. A descriptive qualitative case study design was used to develop in-depth knowledge of contextual teaching and learning experiences, the perspectives of the participants, and naturally occurring practices in the institutional setting. Semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis were the data-gathering methods. Purposive sampling was used to select the two lecturers and seven students directly involved in teaching general English. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the data, which made it possible to identify repeated themes and patterns that revealed both opportunities and difficulties in implementing CLT in context. The results of the study indicate that, despite the adaptation of the CTL approach in teaching practices, its implementation is often sporadic due to concerns about English proficiency, teacher training, and flexibility in using local and official languages during instruction. The research demonstrates the necessity of adapting CLT methods to the local education environment and arranging long-term professional development for lecturers. This study helps us understand how context-sensitive CLT approaches can lead to improved results in teaching and learning English in Timor-Leste. The interactive approach and the systematic teacher model could significantly improve students' communicative competence.

This systematic literature review (SLR) thoroughly investigates the significant role of English for Public Administration (EPA) in improving the overall employability of STIA Tabalong graduates in an increasingly competitive job market. Employing a rigorous and structured search protocol across major academic databases such as Scopus and Google Scholar, this study carefully synthesizes key findings from relevant scholarly articles published between 2015 and 2025. The comprehensive review reveals that proficiency in EPA is absolutely crucial for effective professional communication in various public sector roles, significantly impacting a graduate's ability to secure employment and advance their career. Key findings indicate a strong correlation between specialized English skills and job opportunities, while also highlighting common challenges in EPA implementation, such as a lack of relevant teaching materials and pedagogical limitations. The findings provide concrete implications for STIA Tabalong, suggesting necessary curriculum enhancements to better align with industry demands and to bridge the existing skills gap.

Digital storytelling (DST) refers to the merging of storytelling with digital media to address educational needs, such as communication, self-expression, and language acquisition, particularly writing skills. Writing has a significant role in students’ lifelong learning. Hence, teachers constantly seek novel ways to enhance students’ writing skills. To address the research question on describing the role of digital storytelling (DST) as an effective strategy in enhancing students’ writing skills and its opportunities and challenges, this paper provides a systematic review of several studies on Google Scholar and ERIC. The methodology employed in this paper was a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with a qualitative approach, commonly referred to as meta-synthesis. The findings demonstrate that digital storytelling (DST) can be used as an effective strategy by teachers in enhancing students’ writing skills. Most of the authors of these research papers have presented empirical evidence supporting the benefits of integrating digital storytelling (DST) in the classroom to enhance students' writing more effectively.

This study aims to improve high school students' listening skills through the application of Voice of America (VoA) Learning English. Using a classroom action research (CAR) approach in two cycles at a high school in Yogyakarta with 36 students, this study assessed listening skills before and after using the application. Data were collected through pre-tests, post-tests, observations, and interviews, and analyzed using an interactive model and SPSS. The results show that the use of VoA Learning English improves students' listening skills, motivation, and engagement, while also proving the effectiveness of technology-assisted learning through authentic listening materials. This study recommends the integration of digital media in teaching English listening skills.

This study analyzes the role of families and caregivers at Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Wana Seraya Denpasar in implementing elderly care programs and examines the implications of these programs for the quality of life of older adults. Using a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach, data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Two theoretical frameworks guided the analysis: Carrolyn Smith-Morris’ Social Support Theory, which highlights the importance of emotional, informational, and instrumental support for elderly well-being, and Robert J. Havighurst’s Activity Theory, which states that active involvement in social, physical, and spiritual activities enhances happiness and life satisfaction in old age. The findings show that families’ involvement remains limited due to time and distance constraints, yet their emotional presence still contributes positively to the psychological comfort of the elderly. Caregivers play a dominant role in meeting the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of residents. The care program demonstrates positive implications, including improved health stability, increased social interaction, strengthened feelings of appreciation, and enhanced spiritual peace. Additionally, Balinese cultural values such as tatwam asi and menyama braya reinforce empathy, togetherness, and respectful relationships within the care system. The study concludes that synergy between families, caregivers, and local cultural values forms a crucial foundation for a meaningful and humane elderly care system.  

Fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 76/IX Mendalo still show low learning motivation in Natural Sciences and Social Sciences (IPAS) subjects. This is evident from their low attention, lack of enthusiasm, and tendency to chat during learning, which is caused by teachers not implementing appropriate learning methods and media. This study was conducted to increase student interest through PJBL with the use of audiovisual media, by means of a Classroom Action Research (CAR) methodology, separated into two cycles, with each cycle consisting of two meetings. Observation, worksheets, and questionnaires were the methods that were utilized to obtain data from the 21 students who participated in the research. An increase of 19.9% was observed in the average level of learning, which went from 62.7% in Cycle I to 82.6% in Cycle II respectively. This study aims to analyze the effect of online learning engagement on student satisfaction, with time management as a mediating variable. Using a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey design, this study involved 150 students from the UPPBJ UT Makassar Program who were selected using cluster sampling techniques. The variables used in this study included online learning engagement, technology perception, and student satisfaction, which were measured using a 5-point Likert scale. The data were analyzed using Smart PLS version 4.0 software, which included measurement and structural model evaluation to examine convergent, discriminant, and reliability validity. The results showed that online learning engagement did not have a significant effect on student satisfaction, although there was a positive relationship. However, online learning engagement had a significant effect on technology perception, which in turn had a significant effect on student satisfaction. Technology perception played an important role as a mediator in the relationship between online learning engagement and student satisfaction, reinforcing the direct effect. This mediating effect shows that even though online learning engagement does not directly increase satisfaction, perceptions of online learning technology play a crucial role in increasing student satisfaction. This study provides insight into the importance of technology perceptions in online learning.

Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) technology present both opportunities and challenges for education. On the one hand, AI can enrich the learning process; on the other hand, it has the potential to shift human values ​​in education. This study aims to describe teachers' efforts to humanize learning in the AI ​​era, particularly in fostering students' learning awareness and independent thinking at SMAN 2 Singingi Hilir. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted following the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that teachers act as facilitators and inspirators in technology-based learning. Humanization of learning is realized through instilling the values ​​of reflection, empathy, and responsibility in the use of AI. In addition, teachers foster students' independent thinking through project-based learning and reflective discussions that balance digital intelligence with moral values. This process helps students become critical, independent, and ethical learners amidst the digitalization of education.

This study explores the representation of hegemonic masculinity in The Super Mario Bros (2023), focusing on the character Bowser as a central figure of dominance and authority. Using Connell’s (2005) theory of hegemonic masculinity, this research identifies the masculine traits manifested through Bowser’s verbal and non-verbal expressions. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method with textual analysis on thirty selected scenes from the film. The findings reveal that Bowser exhibits all seven traits of hegemonic masculinity, including aggression and competition, dominance and control, physical strength, emotional restraint, risk-taking, sexual conquest, and self-confidence. Among these, aggression and competition (23.3%) and dominance and control (20%) are the most prominent. Bowser’s masculinity reflects how patriarchal ideals are embedded within modern animated cinema, emphasizing control, strength, and emotional suppression. This study contributes to the understanding of how traditional masculinity continues to be reproduced in contemporary media, influencing audience perceptions of male identity and power.

This study aims to examine the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Canva as instructional media in elementary school learning, particularly at SDN 069 Mompang Julu, Indonesia. The research employed a qualitative approach with a field study design. The research subjects consisted of elementary school teachers and students, while data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the use of AI and Canva assists teachers in designing more creative, visual, and efficient learning media, as well as increasing students’ motivation and engagement in the learning process. The discussion reveals that the integration of these technologies creates a more adaptive and engaging learning experience; however, it still faces challenges related to teachers’ digital competence and technological infrastructure. The study concludes that the integration of AI and Canva has strong potential to improve the quality of elementary education when supported by continuous teacher training and adequate technological facilities.
