This study was motivated by the existence of Longgo Mayuru Dance as a traditional art form of Gorontalo that still maintains its socio-cultural functions and relatively authentic movement structure amid cultural dynamics. This dance not only serves as an aesthetic expression but also as a cultural text that represents the history, customary system, and social identity of the Molingkapoto community. The purpose of this study is to analyse the movement structure of the Longgo Mayuru dance in relation to the historical context and social life of the Molingkapoto community. The study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive-interpretative design. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with dance performers and traditional leaders, as well as visual and written documentation. Data analysis was carried out by describing the dance movement structure at the level of motifs, phrases, and movement sentences, then interpreted through structural and sociocultural approaches. The results of the study show that the Longgo Mayuru Dance has its roots in traditional martial arts, which underwent historical transformation into a symbolic escort dance. It has a sacred socio-customary function and is composed of a systematic and symbolically meaningful movement structure. The implications of this research emphasise the importance of preserving the Longgo Mayuru dance, not only in terms of its movements, but also in terms of the socio-cultural context and historical values that underpin it as part of the cultural heritage of the Molingkapoto community.

This study explores the representation of hegemonic masculinity in The Super Mario Bros (2023), focusing on the character Bowser as a central figure of dominance and authority. Using Connell’s (2005) theory of hegemonic masculinity, this research identifies the masculine traits manifested through Bowser’s verbal and non-verbal expressions. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method with textual analysis on thirty selected scenes from the film. The findings reveal that Bowser exhibits all seven traits of hegemonic masculinity, including aggression and competition, dominance and control, physical strength, emotional restraint, risk-taking, sexual conquest, and self-confidence. Among these, aggression and competition (23.3%) and dominance and control (20%) are the most prominent. Bowser’s masculinity reflects how patriarchal ideals are embedded within modern animated cinema, emphasizing control, strength, and emotional suppression. This study contributes to the understanding of how traditional masculinity continues to be reproduced in contemporary media, influencing audience perceptions of male identity and power.

This study aims to analyze the pedagogical strategies in teaching Nailur Roja Syarah Safinatun Najah, particularly the chapter on marriage, at Pondok Pesantren Raudlatul Muhibbin Al-Mustainiyyah Surakarta. The teaching of classical Islamic texts (kitab kuning) in pesantren not only emphasizes textual understanding but also requires adaptive strategies to ensure that marriage laws are comprehended both theoretically and practically. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through interviews with students and teachers, as well as library research on classical Islamic texts, pesantren pedagogy, and Islamic marriage law. The findings show that pedagogical strategies combine traditional methods such as bandongan and sorogan with contextual approaches including interactive discussions, group deliberations, and case-based learning. The main challenges for students are difficulties in understanding classical Arabic and relating the material to the contemporary Indonesian legal context. To overcome these issues, teachers provide simplified explanations, use real-life analogies, and encourage active student participation. Therefore, the applied pedagogical strategies effectively enhance students’ comprehension of the marriage chapter both normatively and practically.

Mobile navigation interfaces continue to be plagued by a key usability problem, particularly when widely accepted design traditions fail to address the specific requirements and mental models of local user populations. This research addresses this significant limitation by using a comprehensive user-focused measurement framework to identify and investigate context-dependent navigation problems in mobile applications. The research employed a multi-method qualitative approach, using in-depth questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and laboratory-based usability testing of 15 participants on an interactive Figma prototype that simulated real-world navigation tasks. Our analysis, step by step, revealed significant navigation issues in the local context, as evidenced by a 73% task-completion rate and an average participant error of 2.8 across the core navigation tasks. The most significant usability issues were ambiguous iconography, inconsistent application of platform design patterns, and insufficient system feedback mechanisms. The results conclusively demonstrate that localized usability testing is not merely beneficial but necessary while creating genuinely good and accessible mobile experiences. The study provides a replicable, practical context-aware evaluation approach and tangible, right-now-applicable design recommendations, such as enhancing icons with descriptive text labels and using instant visual feedback mechanisms. The study provides developers and designers with tangible takeaways for significantly enhancing navigation user experience without sacrificing methodological availability or implementation convenience across different development environments.

The doctrine of Sola Scriptura, which positions Scripture as the supreme authority in matters of faith and practice, has been a foundational pillar for Protestant Christianity. However, its application within the dynamic context of modern Christian Religious Education (CRE) faces significant challenges that necessitate a critical evaluation. This study employs a qualitative research method with a descriptive-analytical approach to comprehensively investigate the interplay between this theological principle and contemporary educational praxis. The research is conducted by systematically gathering and analyzing a wide range of textual sources, including seminal theological works on Sola Scriptura, current CRE curricula, relevant scholarly articles, and educational policy documents. The analysis describes the core tenets of the principle as historically understood, followed by an examination of its practical implementation in educational settings. The study identifies and elucidates key challenges, such as the rise of historical-critical biblical interpretation, increasing religious pluralism, the pervasive influence of secularism, and the pedagogical shift towards student-centered learning models that prioritize personal experience. The findings reveal a critical tension between the exclusive truth claims inherent in Sola Scriptura and the inclusive, relativistic environment of the modern world. The study concludes that for CRE to remain relevant and effective, it must develop thoughtful pedagogical strategies that faithfully uphold the authority of Scripture while simultaneously engaging with these contemporary challenges. This necessitates a move beyond a mere transmission of doctrine towards fostering a critical and reflective faith among learners, enabling them to navigate the complexities of the modern age.

This study aimed to analyze the application of Sinclair and Coulthard’s verbal and nonverbal model in teaching descriptive text to 11th-grade students. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this research was conducted through Classroom Discourse Analysis based on a recorded English teaching session at MAS Darul Azhariyun. The data consisted of the teacher’s and students’ verbal and nonverbal interactions, transcribed and categorized according to Sinclair and Coulthard’s (1975) framework, including exchange, move, and act. The findings revealed that the classroom interaction was predominantly teacher-centered, structured through the Initiation–Response–Feedback (IRF) sequence. However, despite the teacher’s dominant role, interactive moments occurred through group discussions, presentations, and questioning sessions that encouraged student participation. Nonverbal communication such as gestures, facial expressions, and tone were found to reinforce meaning, support comprehension, and maintain engagement. The study identified that while students’ responses were often short, the teacher’s scaffolding and feedback effectively maintained communicative flow and ensured lesson coherence. These findings suggest that the integration of verbal and nonverbal discourse based on Sinclair and Coulthard’s model contributes to clearer instructional structure, improved classroom interaction, and increased student attentiveness. It also highlights the potential of discourse analysis as a reflective tool for teachers to evaluate communication strategies and promote more interactive, meaningful language learning environments.

This study aims to explore the use of classroom talk in Indonesian EFL classrooms, specifically when teaching descriptive texts. Utilizing Sinclair & Coulthard's (1975) discourse analysis theory, the study focuses on the Initiation-Response-Feedback (IRF) model, which offers a framework for analyzing classroom interactions. By applying this model, classroom discourse can be broken down into a hierarchical structure that includes Exchanges, Moves, and Acts. This structure allows for a detailed examination of teacher-student communication, making its subtle nuances more explicit and accessible for analysis. The IRF model is widely recognized for its applicability and effectiveness in identifying the functional roles of utterances in classroom talk. One key observation from this study is that teacher-led initiation and questioning often dominate the discourse, with students primarily responding to the teacher’s prompts. The study suggests that the implications of the IRF model can help teachers reflect on their communication patterns and improve their teaching methods. By transforming teacher-centered scaffolding into a more student-centered approach, teachers can foster more effective interactions that enhance student engagement and learning. The study also highlights the importance of using the IRF model as a diagnostic tool for improving classroom communication practices and encouraging more dynamic and student-oriented teaching methods.

This study aimed to analyze teacher conversations in the “Descriptive Text” learning video from MAS Ponpes Darul Qur'an using Sinclair and Coulthard's discourse model. With a qualitative descriptive design, data were collected through video observation and transcribed to identify exchanges, movements, and actions in classroom interactions. The results show that the Initiation–Response–Follow-up (IRF) structure dominates classroom discourse, with teachers taking most of the initiative through questions, explanations, and directions, while students generally provide brief and limited responses. Teacher follow-ups are mostly evaluative, using praise and confirmation, which helps maintain motivation but does not expand student cooperation. The discussion highlights that while this teacher-centered approach ensures clarity, structure, and regularity, it also limits opportunities for students to provide longer and more creative responses. The study concludes that teacher talk has a dual role: as a facilitator of learning and as an obstacle when it is too dominant. More varied strategies, such as open-ended questions and in-depth feedback, are recommended to create a more interactive and student-centered classroom environment.

This research aims to understand how the meaning of loss is constructed in the lyrics of the song “Cutting My Fingers Off” by Turnover, using Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotic approach. The song was chosen as the object of study because it expresses the emotion of loss intensely through poetic and emotional lyrical symbols. According to Saussure’s theory, meaning is formed through the relationship between the signifier and the signified, where words in the lyrics function as signs that carry deep meaning. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with interview, textual analysis techniques, supported by literature review and observation of listener Turnover’s “Cutting My Fingers Off”. The analysis involves breaking down each verse to identify signifiers and signifieds that shape the emotional meaning of loss. The findings show that the lyrics reflect not only physical loss but also psychological experiences such as alienation, regret, and severed emotional attachment. Symbols like “Cutting My Fingers Off” form a visual metaphor for deep emotional pain. This research concludes that music particularly lyrics is an effective medium of symbolic communication to convey personal experiences. “Cutting My Fingers Off” successfully constructs a complex meaning of loss that resonates personally with its listeners.

This article discusses the phenomenon of early marriage in Indonesia from the perspective of the Code of Canon Law, particularly Canon 1072, which emphasizes the pastoral duty of guiding young people away from premature marriages. Using a qualitative-descriptive method with a literature review approach, the study examines canonical texts, Church documents, and empirical data related to the issue. The findings reveal that Catholic marriage demands free and mature consent, emotional stability, and openness to the gift of life. Early marriage often fails to fulfill these essential elements, leading to negative social, psychological, health, and economic consequences. Furthermore, it highlights the challenges faced by the Church in pastoral accompaniment amid cultural and socioeconomic pressures that encourage early unions. Therefore, Canon 1072 remains a relevant and preventive pastoral guideline, aiming to protect the dignity and freedom of young people, promote responsible preparation for marriage, and strengthen the foundation of Catholic family life in modern Indonesian society.

This research discusses the event of the first revelation descending upon Prophet Muhammad SAW in the Cave of Hira as the starting point for the birth of Islamic civilization. The background of this research stems from the social and spiritual conditions of pre-Islamic Arab society, which was in the era of ignorance, characterized by idol worship, social inequality, and the loss of human values. The purpose of this research is to reconstruct the historical, theological, and philosophical meanings of the first revelation and relate them to the relevance of educational and moral values in the modern context. The method used is a qualitative study with a descriptive-analytical approach, utilizing primary and secondary literature from interpretive sources, historical texts, and scientific journals. The research results indicate that the command "Iqra'" in Surah Al-'Alaq verses 1-5 is the foundation for the emergence of literacy, education, and scientific traditions in Islam. This value affirms the importance of the integration between faith and science as the foundation of civilization. The implications of this research confirm that the spirit of "Iqra'" must be revived in the modern education system so that young Muslim generations can develop critical, ethical, and moral character amidst the current of globalization.

The findings of this study reveal that the GoFood advertisement titled “Breaking News” and the GrabFood advertisement “Hematematika” serve not only as promotional tools but also as media that shape consumer mindsets and behavior. Both advertisements strategically employ language, narrative, and structure to highlight the ideas of efficiency and modernity, which align with the demands of contemporary digital society. The GoFood advertisement presents a serious narrative that emphasizes economic issues, while GrabFood adopts a humorous approach and wordplay to establish a lighter and more entertaining connection with the audience. This analysis was conducted using a descriptive qualitative approach by examining video advertisements on YouTube, with a particular focus on persuasive language and visual representation. In this sense, advertisements are understood not merely as marketing strategies, but as communicative practices embedded with ideology. Through the messages they convey, the ads promote values of efficiency, frugality, and modernity, which ultimately influence the construction of consumer identity and behavior. The study applies Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis framework, which consists of textual analysis, discursive practice, and socio-cultural context. This approach allows researchers to explore how language in advertisements contributes to the construction of social reality, communicates particular perspectives, and encourages audiences to respond actively.

This study examines the utilization of haiku as a form of response to postwar trauma through Kaneko Tota’s and Saito Sanki’s war-themed haiku. Following Japan’s defeat in World War II in 1945, a cultural shift occurred marked by transformation within traditional arts, particularly haiku, which became a significant medium for expressing traumatic historical and social experiences. Although both poets used haiku as a medium to express dissatisfaction and critique the socio-political conditions of the postwar period, they represented different generations and approaches in responding to postwar trauma. Saito, having directly experienced the trauma of war, developed a deconstructive strategy towards traditional haiku conventions. Meanwhile, Kaneko, belonging to the postwar generation, adopted a more radical approach in formal and semantic experimentation. These dual strategies not only embodied individual artistic responses to trauma but also contributed to a broader cultural project aimed at reconstructing Japan’s collective identity in the postwar era. Yuri Lotman’s cultural semiotics framework is employed to analyze the semiotic transformation dynamics in the poets' works. Lotman’s theory, with its key concepts of semiosphere, cultural text, and translation mechanisms, offers a comprehensive analytical tool for understanding the dynamics of sign systems and cultural meanings in World War II-themed haiku. From the analysis of five war-themed haiku, it is concluded that both poets constructed a collective trauma discourse. Rather than employing explicit descriptive narratives, the trauma discourse utilizes strong semiotic condensation strategies. Saito and Kaneko juxtaposed established cultural symbols and codes, such as Hiroshima as a metaphor of absolute destruction, the marathon as a symbol of life, breasts as a symbol of motherhood, and blooming flowers representing renewal into new surreal configurations that created novel meanings at the semiotic boundaries where tensions clashed.
