This study examines the poem Sajak Sebatang Lisong by W.S. Rendra through a postcolonial lens, focusing on the underlying social criticism embedded within the text. The poem reflects the persistent social inequalities that continue to affect Indonesian society in the post-independence era, particularly in the realms of education and the marginalization of impoverished children. Through symbols such as the cigarette (lisong), wealthy elites (cukong), and the imagery of an endless road, the poem highlights the lingering presence of colonial structures within contemporary social and educational systems. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the study utilizes textual analysis and socio-cultural context as primary analytical tools. The findings reveal that political independence has not been fully accompanied by social justice. Structural oppression and limited opportunities continue to hinder the younger generation in their pursuit of a better future. As such, the poem serves as a powerful literary critique of neocolonial practices and ongoing social alienation. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of how literature can reflect colonial legacies and the socio-political dynamics of post-independence Indonesia, while also enriching the discourse in postcolonial literary studies.

This research focuses on the involvement of community organizations (CSOs) in business activities in Makassar City, emphasizing the dynamics of power relations that develop outside the formal framework of the state. In daily practice, CSOs frequently conduct inspections, symbolic enforcement, and even intimidation against business actors despite lacking official government mandates, resulting in a shift in oversight functions to the informal realm. The aim of this research is to understand how CSOs can gain social legitimacy and exercise pseudo-authoritative authority in the public sphere. To address this, the research methods used include in-depth interviews with 18 informants and analysis of 21 relevant documents. The analysis shows that CSOs' authority is formed through informal socio-political networks that rely on three main factors: community support, closeness to security forces, and local media coverage that strengthens their symbolic legitimacy. This then results in pseudo-authority, a form of de facto authority that is accepted in certain social contexts even though it is not legally recognized. Further findings indicate resistance from business actors and community leaders who question the legality and economic impact of mass organization interventions, which are considered to have the potential to hamper the business climate and create uncertainty. However, the weak response from local governments actually emphasizes the gap in formal oversight mechanisms, opening up space for mass organizations to fill this role. This condition indicates that the authorizing environment is not institutional as it should be, but rather social, contested, and dependent on the dynamics of power relations at the local level. Thus, this study provides a picture of how the pseudo-authority practices of mass organizations are formed, accepted, and questioned in the context of urban social and economic governance.

Nutritional issues in Indonesia continue to pose a significant public health challenge and necessitate early educational interventions. Children aged 7 to 9, categorized as part of Generation Alpha, are digital natives who are beginning to develop logical thinking abilities and demonstrate a strong preference for audiovisual content. In response, a two-dimensional digital animation entitled “MIGI: Makan Minum Bergizi” was developed as an educational medium. This project aims to implement the animation principles of appeal, exaggeration, and squash & stretch, which serve as the foundation for communication and visual quality in animation. The animation was produced using Adobe After Effects with the keyframe animation technique, resulting in the application of the appeal principle through uniquely simple internal organ character designs, bright and contrasting color palettes, and the use of symbolic language relevant to the target audience. The exaggeration principle was applied to dramatize movement and emotional shifts, while squash & stretch was implemented using scale transformation and puppet tools, maintaining volume consistency. These three animation principles were consciously and conceptually applied to enhance the visual appeal and communicative effectiveness of the educational message, making the work an engaging and potentially impactful learning medium.

This study examines in depth the history and development of Kaing Lunggi—the local term for songket cloth—in the Sambas region, West Kalimantan. This study has two main focuses. First, tracing the history of the cloth and textile trade in Southeast Asia that became the background for the entry of external influences into the Sambas region. Second, understanding how Kaing Lunggi emerged, developed, and transformed within the social, economic, and cultural contexts of the local community. Using a historical approach and textile cultural analysis, this study positions Kaing Lunggi as a cultural product born from the dynamics of regional trade since the Sambas Sultanate era. Historical records show that trade networks during that period connected Sambas with major trading centers such as Malacca, Singapore, and the coastal areas of Borneo. Through this route, there was an exchange of raw materials, weaving techniques, and decorative motifs that were then adapted by local artisans. The process of aculturation is visible in Kaing Lunggi motifs that combine local elements with external influences, such as typical Indonesian flora and fauna combined with geometric patterns and typical Malay stylization. The songket weaving technique demonstrates high skill and has been passed down through generations, making it an important part of intangible cultural heritage. Besides its economic value as a trade commodity, Kaing Lunggi also holds a symbolic role. It is worn in various traditional ceremonies, religious celebrations, and as a marker of social status in Sambas society. The use of color, gold thread, and the complexity of the motifs serve as indicators of the wearer's identity and prestige. The results of this study confirm that traditional textiles such as Kaing Lunggi function not only as cultural artifacts but also as active agents in shaping the history and identity of the community. They represent cross-cultural encounters and serve as evidence of the resilience of local traditions amidst globalization.

The design of banknotes is not merely an aesthetic element but also holds symbolic meanings that reflect a nation's identity, history, and cultural diversity. This study analyzes the design of the 2022 Rupiah banknotes using Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic approach, which consists of icons, indexes, and symbols, through a qualitative descriptive method. The findings indicate that the visual elements in these banknotes function not only as a medium of exchange but also as a visual communication tool that strengthens nationalism and cultural awareness. National heroes, traditional dances, indigenous flora, and natural landscapes featured on each denomination carry both explicit and implicit meanings that represent Indonesia's historical and cultural values. Furthermore, the design differences between the 2016 and 2022 emissions, such as the use of more vivid colors, varied sizes, and enhanced security features, highlight the government's visual communication strategy to maintain authenticity and facilitate Rupiah identification. This study provides insights into how banknote design serves as an educational medium and a unifying tool for the nation through meaningful visual symbols.

Ramadan fasting often results in significant changes in diet, fluid intake, and daily physical activity levels. If not managed properly, these changes have the potential to negatively impact health, particularly in the elderly. This community service article aims to improve literacy and practice healthy lifestyles during and after Ramadan through educational intervention activities for retirees of PB Telkom Padang. The activity was held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, starting at 08:00 WIB and ending, involving 80 participants. The intervention was carried out in two stages: educational counseling using PowerPoint media and distribution of leaflets as supporting introductory materials, followed by an interactive discussion between participants and the presenter. The leaflets functioned as an information retention tool, enabling participants to remember and apply the knowledge independently at home. In addition, providing souvenirs from sponsors to the most interactive participants increased motivation and active participation in the discussion session. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' knowledge regarding the principles of balanced nutrition, the importance of hydration, and the choice of light physical activities appropriate to their physical condition during the fasting month. The participatory intervention method and receiving symbolic awards proved effective in fostering commitment to a healthy lifestyle. Remittance money is a number of cost contributions given from the groom-to-be to the prospective in-laws to meet the needs of the wedding. The tradition of money delivery in the culture of the Mandailing Angkola community, especially in Aek Nabara Jae Village, is a symbol of the bride-to-be's seriousness towards the woman. However, in practice, this tradition often causes problems when the nominal amount set exceeds the reasonable limit. Too high a dowry has caused many couples, especially from the lower middle economic class, to be forced to postpone their marriage. This research aims to examine the implementation and determination of remittances in local wedding customs, as well as how Islamic law views these conditions. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive method through field observation and interviews. The results of the study showed that the determination of remittance money was influenced by education level, social status, and the intervention of extended families. In the view of Islamic law, the determination of the dowry that burdens and hinders marriage is contrary to the principle of convenience and benefit in muamalah.

In advertising, females are frequently positioned as the center of attention to establish product image through culturally recognized signs and symbols. Advertisements transcend their promotional function, acting as media that both reflect and influence societal perceptions, including gender roles within daily life. This is exemplified in the Vicks VapoRub advertisement titled "Mother's Amazing Hands," which portrays women as mothers perpetually prepared to care for their families. This study investigates the representation of the mother's role within the aforementioned advertisement using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. The research aims to twofold: 1) identify the denotative, connotative, and mythical meanings embedded within the Vicks VapoRub "Mother's Amazing Hands" ad; and 2) analyze the portrayal of the mother figure through the lens of Barthes' semiotic framework. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing Barthes' semiotic analysis method alongside concepts of social construction of reality, cinematography techniques, and the societal role of mothers. Through the analysis of verbal, non-verbal, audio, and visual elements within the advertisement, the study revealed the multifaceted representation of the mother's role. This includes functions of caregiving, nurturing, and treatment of family members, ultimately portraying the tangible actions a mother takes in providing for her family.
