Halal certification is a strategic element in ensuring the quality of food products and building the trust of Muslim consumers. This study aims to examine the level of understanding of business actors regarding halal certification through a case study at the Padang Takana Restaurant in Medan City. Using a qualitative approach through observation and in-depth interviews, the results of the study indicate that there are still many MSME actors who do not fully understand the importance of halal certification, both in terms of law and its economic value. The obstacles faced include limited information, low digital literacy, and administrative procedures that are considered complicated. This study emphasizes the importance of government intervention in the form of education and assistance so that business actors can more easily access the halal certification process efficiently and affordably.

Strengthening the position of cooperatives as business entities that are responsive to market changes and capable of competing effectively requires a well-planned business development strategy. In facing the challenges of globalization and increasingly complex business competition, cooperatives can no longer rely solely on the principle of togetherness but must implement a modern managerial approach based on data and measurable strategies. This study aims to analyze how cooperatives develop their businesses by understanding market characteristics and competitor strategies through the application of operations management using the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) framework. The method used is a literature review with a qualitative descriptive approach, focusing on analyzing various literatures related to cooperative management, strategic management, and organizational performance measurement systems. The findings show that the Balanced Scorecard is effective as a tool to assist in formulating comprehensive strategies through four main dimensions: financial, customer, internal process, and learning and growth. With this approach, cooperatives can improve operational performance, gain deeper insights into market needs, respond appropriately to competition, and create long-term value for all their members.

The provision under Article 17 paragraph (1) letter f of the Notary Law (UUJN) stipulates that a Notary is prohibited from concurrently holding a position as a leader or manager in a state-owned or private business entity. However, the term "leader" as used in this provision is not clearly defined, either in the main text of the article or in its explanatory section. The absence of a clear definition creates legal ambiguity, as the provision does not refer to organizational structures regulated under the Company Law, the State-Owned Enterprises Law, or the Regional Government Law. This has led to varying interpretations in the supervision of Notaries and creates potential inconsistencies in the enforcement of the rule. To address this normative uncertainty, there is a need for regulation that explicitly outlines which positions are considered to fall under the term "leader" as intended by the UUJN. This journal article focuses on analyzing the meaning of the term "leader" in Article 17 paragraph (1) letter f of the UUJN, and on examining the legal certainty of using the term in relation to the prohibition against Notaries concurrently holding leadership positions in business entities.

Since the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) at the end of 2015, all economic actors—including SMEs and microenterprises—are expected to improve and adapt in order to enhance the quality of both goods and services. Failure to do so may result in Indonesia becoming a "soft target" market for other ASEAN countries, given its status as the most populous country in the region with over 270 million people. SMEs and microenterprises, which represent the embodiment of people-based economic democracy, would be particularly vulnerable if goods and services from various ASEAN countries continue to flood the Indonesian market. Recognizing this situation, empowering SMEs and microenterprises is not only necessary but inevitable to help the nation discover its identity through the development of comparative and competitive advantages. This activity began by identifying existing problems, followed by determining suitable solutions. The method used involves training and mentoring. The outcome of this initiative is the improved capability of the traditional cake microenterprise to optimize its sales by using locally sourced raw materials. As a result, the "Puji Lestari" Traditional Cake Microenterprise has successfully enhanced its production capacity and business management.Financial reporting is also a crucial aspect of business development. A well-maintained financial report reflects the progress of the business, particularly through the net profits it generates. These outcomes serve as indicators of increased empowerment and the strengthening of the enterprise.

The legal mechanism of bankruptcy relies on the concept of debt, because the absence of debt undermines the fundamental purpose of bankruptcy as a legal institution to liquidate the debtor's assets to satisfy creditors' claims. Debt is the main criterion that must be met in order to be able to apply for bankruptcy, along with additional provisions such as having two or more creditors, as stipulated in Article 2, paragraph (1) of Law Number 37 of 2004 concerning Bankruptcy and Suspension of Debt Payment Obligations (Bankruptcy Law). Notaries who have completed the bankruptcy process and are undergoing rehabilitation to improve their good name cannot re-apply to become Notaries. Here, the Notary will lose his/her right to work to carry out his/her position simply because the Notary has or has been sentenced to bankruptcy by the court. This bankruptcy is simply the notary's inability to pay the debt owed to the creditor, not a criminal act. If associated with the provisions contained in the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, namely Article 28 letter d concerning Human Rights which explains that everyone has the right to work and receive fair and proper compensation and treatment in employment relations, the efforts made in this problem are handled in accordance with the law and will be a substantial obligation for the curator. Based on Article 1 number 5 (Law Number 37 of 2004 concerning Bankruptcy and Suspension of Debt Payment Obligations), it states that a curator is an individual or an estate office appointed by the court to resolve and manage all problems of the bankrupt debtor's assets under the supervision of a supervising judge based on applicable laws. The citation of the law shows the clear jurisdiction of the curator over the debtor's property and assets.

The method used is field research with a qualitative approach and descriptive techniques, with data obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation from primary and secondary sources. The results show that home-based businesses make a real contribution to improving the community's economy by utilizing local potential and applying Islamic values such as honesty, trustworthiness, and fairness in their management. The demand for goats for religious rituals such as aqiqah and qurban during Eid al-Adha has shown a significant upward trend each year, in line with the growing awareness among Muslims to observe religious practices in accordance with Islamic law. This study aims to explore the strategies employed and the challenges faced by traditional goat farmers in responding to this evolving demand. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, with data collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation. The subject of this study was Mr. Anto, an experienced goat farmer and trader who manages the “Adinda Aqiqah” business in Medan City. The findings reveal that Mr. Anto’s main strategies include stock management through the raising of hundreds of goats of various breeds (Kacang, Etawa, and sheep), the selection of high-productivity superior breeds, and the setting of competitive selling prices for both qurban and aqiqah needs. On the other hand, the primary challenges encountered include limited infrastructure, particularly at sales locations, animal health risks due to adverse weather conditions, and the lack of effectiveness in using social media as a marketing tool to reach a wider consumer base. These findings offer a clear picture of how traditional livestock practices adapt to market demands, while also highlighting the need for improvements in technology, marketing, and policy support to enhance competitiveness in this dynamic, seasonal market.

This study aims to evaluate the financial feasibility of tempeh production using genetically modified soybeans (Genetically Modified Organisms/GMO) at the Annisa Tempe Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) in Kubu Raya Regency. GMO soybeans are the preferred choice for the business owner due to their stable availability and lower price compared to local soybeans. This research employs a case study approach and utilizes investment feasibility analysis methods, including Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and Net Benefit-Cost Ratio (Net B/C). The results show that the business yields an NPV of IDR 779,241,805, an IRR of 20.82%, and a Net B/C of 78.92. These indicators demonstrate that the GMO-based tempeh business at Annisa Tempe MSME is highly feasible from a financial perspective. The study also identifies key challenges such as competition in traditional markets and highlights opportunities through direct distribution and stable raw material supply. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for MSME actors, academics, and policymakers in developing sustainable GMO-based local food businesses.

Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah (UMKM)) are the backbone of Indonesia’s economy but still struggle with inconsistent product quality, weak managerial systems and limited competitiveness. This community‑engagement project aimed to strengthen MSME capabilities through ISO 9001:2015‑based quality management mentoring. An interactive webinar titled “Realising Excellent MSMEs through ISO 9001‑Based Assistance” was delivered by a multidisciplinary team of lecturers acting as trainers and facilitators. Training sessions combined conceptual lectures, implementation case studies and discussions on drafting SOPs, conducting internal audits and applying risk‑based thinking. Participants received a comprehensive package covering the rationale for quality management, the structure of clauses 4–10, and the step‑by‑step route to external certification. Post‑training feedback indicated improved understanding of how ISO 9001 can systematise processes, enhance efficiency and build market trust. The project demonstrates that knowledge‑driven academic–industry collaboration can accelerate MSMEs’ move “up the ladder” and make them more competitive. Follow‑up on‑site mentoring is recommended to ensure sustained adoption of ISO 9001 within participating enterprises.
