News texts are a systematic way of conveying information that contains declarative and imperative sentences used to convey meaning directly and demonstrate the persuasive value of the news. The research goals are to analyze imperative sentences to understand how commands, requests, prohibitions, or invitations are conveyed so that they can influence the actions or responses of readers, as well as to analyze declarative sentences, which play an important role in constructing discourse structure and indicating the writer's position on the topic being discussed. This study was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method. This method was chosen because it can describe what is seen, heard, felt, and asked. The researcher considers qualitative descriptive research to accurately describe a situation without manipulating variables.  This research concludes that imperative sentences elicit responses in the form of agreement and action, or rejection, either directly or indirectly. Meanwhile, declarative sentences serve as a guide or basis for understanding the context the speaker wishes to convey and can also be used to reinforce previously conveyed information to avoid ambiguity and misunderstanding when examining the meaning. This research is expected to be useful in linguistic studies, more specifically in syntactic material that discusses declarative and imperative sentences in news texts and political discourses.

First-year university students undergo a transitional phase from the school environment to the academic, social, and emotional demands of higher education. This transition often triggers stress when not supported by an adequate social environment. Peer support plays an essential role in this adaptation process by providing emotional support, information, and a sense of belonging. Positive peer relationships can help students manage academic pressure, whereas poor peer interactions may increase the risk of stress. Therefore, peer support serves as a protective factor in maintaining the psychological well-being of first-year students. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. Data were collected using the Peer Support Questionnaire (PSQ) and the Student-Life Stress Inventory (SSI) from 130 first-year students of the Faculty of Pharmacy, UNISSULA. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling. Data were analyzed using the Gamma correlation test to determine the relationship between the variables. The Gamma test revealed a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating that the alternative hypothesis was accepted, meaning there is a significant relationship between peer support and stress levels among first-year students. The correlation coefficient of –0.737 indicates a strong negative relationship, suggesting that higher peer support is associated with lower stress levels. There is a significant and strong relationship between peer support and stress levels among first-year students at the Faculty of Pharmacy, UNISSULA.

This research investigates intelligent cooling system design for main ship engines operating in tropical waters, integrating advanced machinery engineering with human factors to address thermal management challenges affecting engine performance, reliability, and crew operational effectiveness. Tropical maritime environments impose severe cooling demands through elevated seawater temperatures (28-32°C), high ambient conditions (28-35°C), and accelerated biofouling, reducing conventional cooling system effectiveness by 15-25% while increasing maintenance burdens and operational risks. Through qualitative analysis involving marine engineers, chief engineers with tropical operational experience, cooling system manufacturers, naval architects, automation specialists, and maritime training institutions, this study examines how intelligent cooling systems incorporating variable-speed pumps, adaptive control algorithms, predictive maintenance, and crew-centered interfaces can optimize thermal management while supporting effective human-machine collaboration. Results demonstrate that intelligent systems can reduce cooling energy consumption by 20-35%, improve temperature stability by 50-65%, extend maintenance intervals by 40-80%, and enhance crew situational awareness through intuitive monitoring interfaces, while requiring comprehensive training programs developing technical understanding and operational competencies. Key implementation challenges include control system complexity, sensor reliability in harsh marine environments, integration with existing engine management platforms, crew competency development requirements, and lifecycle cost justification. Findings reveal that successful intelligent cooling system implementation requires holistic sociotechnical approach addressing machinery engineering optimization, automation technology deployment, and human capability development through coordinated design and training strategies. This research contributes to marine engineering literature by providing integrated frameworks for intelligent system design incorporating machinery performance, automation capabilities, and human factors supporting operational excellence in tropical maritime operations.

The rapid growth of e-commerce has intensified competition among digital businesses, making pricing and discount strategies critical in influencing consumer purchase decisions. This study aims to examine the effect of original product price and price after discount on consumer purchase decisions on e-commerce platforms. A quantitative causal research design was employed using secondary data derived from publicly available e-commerce transaction records. Data analysis was conducted through descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression to assess the partial and simultaneous effects of pricing variables on purchase decisions, which were measured using a price-based purchase decision index. The findings indicate that both original price and discounted price have a significant negative effect on consumer purchase decisions. This suggests that lower displayed and final prices increase consumers’ likelihood of making a purchase. Furthermore, the discounted price was found to exert a more dominant influence than the original price, highlighting the importance of perceived value in online purchasing behavior. This study contributes to the digital marketing literature by providing empirical evidence on pricing effects in e-commerce and offers practical insights for e-commerce platforms in designing effective and data-driven pricing and discount strategies.

This study aims to compare the performance of Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) and Random Forest Regression (RFR) in predicting student performance based on academic scores. Student performance is defined as the average of math scores, Reading Scores, and writing scores. This study uses a quantitative approach with a comparative design based on predictive modeling. The data used is secondary data from the Student Prediction dataset obtained through the Kaggle platform, which was processed using the Python programming language through the Google Colab platform. The analysis stages included the formation of performance variables, the separation of training and test data with a ratio of 80:20, model training, and evaluation using the Mean Squared Error (MSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and coefficient of determination (R²) metrics. The results show that the Multiple Linear Regression model produced an MSE value of 2.74 × 10⁻²⁸, an MAE of 1.51 × 10⁻¹⁴, and an R² of 1.000. Meanwhile, Random Forest Regression produced an MSE of 0.296, an MAE of 0.375, and an R² of 0.998. These findings indicate that both models have a very high level of accuracy, but Multiple Linear Regression provides the best performance. This is due to the strong linear relationship between the input variables and the target variables formed directly from the combination of academic values. Thus, the linear regression model is proven to be more suitable for use in data structures that have simple linear relationships compared to ensemble-based models.
